provincial capital.
Experimental Middle School.
Li Mingzhu received a letter from Wang Peng, saw Wang Peng's photo, and smiled slightly.
"I guessed it, didn't I? You really are Wang Peng."
"So what if we're pen pals? Why did you travel all the way from Ping'an County to the provincial capital to see me, hoping to meet me as a pen pal?"
She smiled and shook her head, took out a piece of paper from her desk, picked up a ballpoint pen, and began to write furiously.
He wrote a lengthy piece of writing, about four or five hundred words.
In summary, it boils down to two sentences.
You're kind of handsome, so I've decided to be your pen pal. Do you dare to compete with me in math competitions?
Two weeks later, Wang Peng received her letter.
"Olympiad math?"
He rummaged through his desk and took out the math Olympiad book that Chen Qingshu had given him.
The exercises in the book are very difficult, and the book has been gathering dust on my desk for a long time.
"Before the midterm exams, there will be a province-wide high school math Olympiad. Do you want to participate?" Li Mengjiao looked at his book.
"I don't have that idea for now," Wang Peng said. "Mathematics isn't my strong suit. Are you planning to participate?"
Li Mengjiao nodded.
"The exam will be held at the school. It's just a test paper, and you can participate."
"As long as you can score above 80, you can enter the second round, and then you will go to the provincial capital to take the exam."
"If you can get into the top three in the province, you will be selected for the provincial math Olympiad team to participate in the national competition."
"If you achieve excellent results in the national competition, you will be selected for the winter camp team of a prestigious university, and you will have the opportunity to be admitted to Tsinghua University, Peking University, and other top universities."
Wang Peng hurriedly waved his hand, "Alright, alright, what you're saying has nothing to do with me."
He casually flipped open a math olympiad book and said, "The most important thing in math is talent, and I don't think I have that talent."
Just then, the school bell rang.
Li Mengjiao took Wang Peng's math Olympiad book and turned to page 50.
"Try these ten questions. If you can get half of them right, it means you have talent," she said.
The English teacher walked into the classroom carrying her textbooks.
Wang Peng picked up his pen to memorize the page number, opened his English textbook, and began listening to the lesson.
The class ended quickly.
The English teacher walked up to Wang Peng, took out four yuan, and said, "Xiao Peng, give me two pens and some refills."
Wang Peng opened his schoolbag to take out his gift, and chuckled, "Teacher, is my ballpoint pen any good?"
"Of course, if it didn't work, I wouldn't have bought it," the English teacher said.
"You're a new customer, so I'll give you a discount." Wang Peng charged her one yuan less.
"Thank you." The English teacher walked out of the classroom with her pen.
The next period is a self-study period.
Wang Peng opened his math Olympiad workbook and began working on the practice problems that Li Mengjiao had given him.
The first question was a multiple-choice question about functions and inverse functions.
He first read and analyzed the question, and quickly came up with a solution. He then began to work out the calculations on the draft paper.
Two minutes later, I got the answer, wrote it down on the paper, and moved on to the second question.
The questions below are getting progressively harder.
He spent an entire self-study period before finally solving all ten problems.
"I'm done. Check if it's correct."
Wang Peng handed the answers and the test questions to Li Mengjiao.
"This afternoon, my dad received a call from Li Xiwang of Hope Bookstore, asking you to deliver some ballpoint pens."
"I also received a call from Lingling's store. Boss Lingling wants fifty sets."
Li Mengjiao picked up her pen and began working on the questions.
"Thank you." Wang Peng wrote a leave request and handed it to Du Lei. "Brother Lei, I need to skip one self-study period."
Du Lei signed the leave application.
"Brother Peng, I really admire you. You manage to study and do business at the same time."
"Top of your class in academics, and also good at business—are you a genius?"
"How exactly is your brain structured?"
Wang Peng laughed and said, "Actually, I'd like to know too. Should I go to the hospital and have brain surgery?"
"Hehe," Du Lei chuckled, "The final exams are in a month. The top student in the grade gets a bonus. Will you be able to win it?"
"That depends on how much the bonus is," Wang Peng said, glancing at his watch. "I'm off to deliver the goods."
He walked out of the classroom and met his homeroom teacher in the hallway.
Chen Qingshu glanced at his schoolbag and asked in a low voice, "Going to deliver goods?"
Wang Peng nodded.
"Go to the People's Department Store and give this to Xiaofang."
Chen Qingshu opened his wallet, took out three hundred yuan, and said, "I just spent my salary, please give this to her for me."
"Goodness." Wang Peng scratched his head.
She's not even married yet, and she's already handing over her entire salary.
"Brother-in-law, did you do this voluntarily? Did Sister Fang ask you to hand over your salary?"
Chen Qingshu shook his head.
"She didn't ask me to hand over my salary."
"The teachers' dormitory was burgled yesterday, and Teacher Dong from Class 8 lost 200 yuan."
"My dorm room was also visited by thieves, but I didn't lose any money."
When Class 8 was mentioned, Wang Peng immediately thought of Wang Cheng.
That guy hooked up with Zhang Qianqian, changed into a new set of clothes, and is living off her like a king.
"Did the school call the police?" Wang Peng asked.
Chen Qingshu shook his head, "The school is applying to become a model school, and we were afraid of the negative impact, so we didn't call the police."
"A civilized school?" Wang Peng suddenly had a premonition.
The thief who broke into the teachers' dormitory may have deliberately chosen this time to commit the theft.
"The school compensated Mr. Dong for the money he lost and also replaced all the locks on the dormitory."
"Don't tell outsiders about this, understand?"
Chen Qingshu said.
"I understand." Wang Peng put the money in his pocket. "Brother-in-law, I have a question: how can I determine if I have a talent for mathematics?"
"Oh, so you're finally focusing on your studies?"
Chen Qingshu laughed and said, "Your math teacher is planning to open an Olympiad math class during the winter break. Regardless of whether you have talent or not, you should sign up for the class first."
