Chapter 13: So Much Money
Yang Chunyan had no idea of Zhou Huaian's doubts. She just hoped that after two years of opening, Dr. Wang's shop would have been open.
The four of them walked for more than a hundred meters and arrived at the entrance of the Chinese Medicine Hospital. Yang Chunyan saw the large gold-plated characters "Deshengtang" on a black background on the sign opposite at a glance, and led the three of them to walk across.
There was an old man with a kind face sitting in the clinic. It was Doctor Wang, who was taking a child's pulse.
A gentle young man in his twenties, seeing that the four people were wearing cloth shoes and rough clothes like country people, approached and asked kindly, "Who wants to see a doctor?"
"Let's go see Doctor Wang for something." Yang Chunyan glanced at him and remembered what he would look like forty years later...
The young man nodded and said, "Sit there and wait for a while." He pointed to the wooden bench against the wall and motioned for the four to sit down.
After Zhou's father sat down, Zhou Huairong put down his backpack, and the three of them sat down in turn, waiting for the old doctor to write a prescription for the child. The child's adult took the medicine and took the child away.
Father Zhou stood up and walked to the stool in front of the old doctor and sat down. He unbuttoned his coat, removed the pin that locked the inner pocket, took out the cloth bag containing the bezoar, and handed it to the old doctor. "We got it out of the cow's gall yesterday."
Doctor Wang took the cloth bag, looked at the four people in surprise, and said, "Follow me."
The four followed him into the inner room, which contained a single bed and a desk. It should be a consulting room.
Doctor Wang put the cloth bag on the table, took a white porcelain cup, and filled it with some water from the tap.
He took out another box from the drawer, put on his reading glasses, turned on the lamp on the table, unwrapped the cloth bag, and saw the brand new cotton inside. "Not bad, you know how to use cotton bags."
As Doctor Wang spoke, he uncovered the cotton wrapping the bezoar, opened the box, picked up a silver needle, and gently scraped the oval bezoar. A little powder attached to his fingertips.
Doctor Wang tasted a little. It was bitter at first but then slightly sweet and refreshing. It had the unique aroma of bezoar. It did not stick to the teeth when chewed and dissolved slowly, leaving no residue in the mouth.
He rubbed the remaining bezoar back and forth on his nails for a while, and then put his fingers into the cup of water.
After pausing for a while, he took out his fingers and rubbed them again, only to see that the yellow color on his nails remained the same.
He picked up the water glass and shook it. A hint of light yellow slowly spread in the glass, and there was no residue at the white bottom of the glass.
Doctor Wang looked at the four people and said, "Pure bile yellow, the quality is not bad, it can be rated as first-class!"
Zhou's father and his son rubbed their hands excitedly, "Doctor Wang is such a kind person."
Doctor Wang smiled and said, "How did you know to send it to me to sell?"
Yang Chunyan stepped forward and said, "Doctor Wang, my husband is Yang Quanqing from the Hengshan Brigade. He often mentioned you and said that you are a kind-hearted and good doctor."
Doctor Wang suddenly realized, "Oh, you mean Xiao Yang, how is he now?"
"Good!" Yang Chunyan remembered that her husband was in good health in the first few years after she got married. "If he knew you opened a clinic, he would probably send you medicine."
Doctor Wang nodded and looked at the few people. "The Chinese medicine hospital opposite the cow gall charges 75 per gram. I'll give you 78 per gram. What do you think?"
Zhou's father and his two sons were overjoyed after hearing this and rubbed their hands excitedly, "Doctor Wang, we believe you, and your words count."
"Thank you for your trust." Doctor Wang smiled and moved the balance scale to the center of the desk. He put the bezoar on it and weighed it, then said, "One hundred and six grams."
He said, dialing a few times on the abacus, "A total of eight thousand two hundred and sixty-eight."
Zhou's father and his two sons never dreamed that that little thing could be exchanged for so much money.
Zhou Huaian excitedly turned around in the room and grabbed Yang Chunyan's hand, "Wife, we are rich now. Our family is rich now."
Zhou's father and Zhou Huairong were also very excited. The father and son held hands together and said, "Thank God for so much money. Now we have enough money to repair the house."
Yang Chunyan looked at the three excited people and felt very happy. She felt that since she left the dead cow, the Zhou family had changed its bad luck in the previous life.
In this life, Grandpa, father-in-law, and Zhou Huaian should be able to have a good ending.
Doctor Wang looked at the four excited people and felt that the country folk were still simple and honest. He smiled and said, "You should thank God for his favor. You can take this money back to build a few big tile houses."
Father Zhou held his two sons' hands and bowed to Dr. Wang, "Thank you, Dr. Wang. Thank you very much."
He now truly felt that Dr. Wang was a kind-hearted and good doctor, unlike some unscrupulous businessmen who deceived them just because they were country people.
Doctor Wang helped Zhou's father up and said, "I should thank you for your trust. Come with me and sit for a while. I'll ask my grandson to get the money for you."
Father Zhou nodded repeatedly, "Okay."
Doctor Wang put the bezoar away, took the four people out, whispered a few words to his grandson Wang Zhen, and gave him a passbook.
Wang Zhen left in a hurry.
After a while, a tall man wearing an apron walked into the clinic with four bowls of beef noodles on a tray. "Doctor Wang, is this the beef noodles you wanted?"
"Yes, just put it on the table." Doctor Wang took out a dollar and handed it to the man, "Boss Sa, please come and collect the dishes later."
"Okay." Boss Sa took the money, took the tray and left.
Yang Chunyan saw that a large bowl of beef noodles was only 25 cents, and remembered that when she left, a large bowl of beef noodles was already selling for 12 yuan. She felt that although money was hard to make these days, it was really valuable.
Doctor Wang said to the four people, "Fellow villagers, if you don't mind, just eat a little."
"How can this be so embarrassing..." Zhou's father and his two sons didn't expect that the beef noodles were served to them. They looked at Dr. Wang and didn't know what to say.
Doctor Wang looked at the four people kindly and said, "It's just a bowl of noodles. When I go to the countryside to collect herbs in the future, you can treat me the same way."
Seeing this, Zhou's father nodded readily and said, "Thank you, Doctor Wang. I live in the third team of the Funius Brigade. My name is Zhou Dasong. Doctor Wang will go to the mountains to collect herbs. He must come to my house to sit and have a simple meal."
"Okay!" Doctor Wang said happily.
The four of them sat down stiffly, mixed the seasoning on the beef noodles, and slowly began to eat.
The soup was made from beef bones, and there were seven or eight thin slices of beef and soft and glutinous vermicelli in the bowl. The soup was thick and delicious, and the four of them were sweating profusely after finishing it.
Yang Chunyan collected the bowls and put them in the corner behind the door.
Doctor Wang asked several people about some things in the countryside, and Zhou's father told them truthfully.
Yang Chunyan thought of the herbs she saw at the foot of the mountain, "Doctor Wang, do you have herbs like Pueraria root, Cirsium japonicum, Chuanxiong, Cyperus rotundus, etc?"
"Yes, kudzu root is three cents a pound, thistle is nine... these are the prices of wet goods."
"I'll pick them and bring them to you when I'm free."
"Just send it over."
At this time, Wang Zhen came in carrying a military green satchel, "Grandpa, it's ready."
Doctor Wang took the bag and said to the four people, "Follow me in."
"Hey!" The four followed Dr. Wang into the inner room.
Doctor Wang opened his bag and took out eight brand new bundles of Big Unity. The brown paper bands that bound the Big Unity still had seals on them. He also took out a stack of banknotes, some with a face value of ten yuan, some with a face value of five yuan, some with a face value of two yuan, and one with a face value of one yuan.
"Oh my God! What a lot of money!" Father Zhou couldn't help but exclaim in amazement.
