514. Chapter 512: The Pit

In the darkness, a dilapidated jeep was speeding on a bumpy road. There were mountains on both sides of the road and no human habitation within a mile or two.

Gao Mingcheng did not drive the jeep to his tractor, but parked it farther away and backed the car up so that he could drive away immediately when he returned.

This was a habit he developed in his previous life, which enabled him to run away faster once a crisis occurred.

After getting off the car, Gao Mingcheng said, "I pretended to sleep to tip off the buyer. Now I have to hurry back. Follow me. When we get there, we will lie in ambush. When the buyer shows up, we will catch him red-handed!"

"Okay." Gao Guobing responded concisely and followed Gao Mingcheng with his three men.

Although he is old and his official position has risen, he has always been on the front line of criminal investigation and has developed a good habit of exercising every day. Therefore, although it is a bit tiring to climb the mountain now, he can still keep up.

Of course, this speed is Gao Mingcheng's slowed down speed, otherwise none of these three people could catch up with him when he ran.

Fortunately, the time to check the goods is in the early morning, and it is only nine o'clock now, so there is more than enough time.

Climbing in the dark, it took nearly an hour for the group to reach the shed on the top of the mountain.

After being more than a hundred meters away, he stopped getting any closer.

Gao Mingcheng said to Gao Guobing and the others, "Uncle, did you see that shed? I suspect there is a hole under the shed where robbers have stolen goods. The goods being sold must have been taken out of the tomb."

Gao Mingcheng had already told everyone about the relevant case details when he was in the car. Everyone knew that this was a big case, so they were very enthusiastic about handling the case.

Gao Guobing and his men all took their service guns. Gao Mingcheng originally wanted an iron rod, but in the end an iron rod was inconvenient to carry with him, so he took a dagger.

After letting Gao Guobing and the others hide, Gao Mingcheng returned to the cabin halfway up the mountain in the dark.

The door of the cabin was closed and it was dark inside.

Gao Mingcheng opened the door of the cabin and walked in.

"Who?" In the darkness, Maozi, who was half asleep, suddenly exclaimed.

Gao Mingcheng whispered, "It's me."

Maozi recognized Gao Mingcheng's voice and finally relaxed. He asked quickly, "Brother, where have you been? Why did you take so long? You don't know, I was scared to death!"

Gao Mingcheng soothed him, "Don't be afraid. Was there anyone here just now?"

Maozi said: "No one has been here before."

Gao Mingcheng felt relieved after hearing this.

He took out a match and scratched the red phosphorus coating on the side of the matchbox with the match head. With a scratching sound, a flame appeared.

The light brought by the flame completely calmed Maozi's panic.

The small flame ignited the fire, and in an instant, the whole cabin slowly became brighter.

Gao Mingcheng was quite warm as he walked over, but Maozi was shivering with cold in the cabin.

Because of the current weather, the temperature difference between day and night is very large. When it is hot during the day, people can only wear single clothes, but when it is cold at night, they have to wrap themselves in a cotton coat.

When Maozi took Gao Mingcheng out to buy goods, he had never expected that such a thing would happen, so he only wore a thin coat.

The mountain wind howled and the chill was biting.

This cabin is not newly built but old. It might have been built by shepherds before. There are traces of life inside, including pots, pans, and utensils.

But this kind of cabin is comfortable to live in in the summer, but not in the winter. It is already late autumn, and it is very cold when living here at night.

The fire brought light and warmth to the two of them, dispelling the darkness and coldness in the room.

Maozi sat by the fire, and his heart finally calmed down.

He asked curiously, "Brother, where did you go just now?"

Gao Mingcheng said, "I'm going to check out the other party's bottom line. They should have some good stuff. Maozi, you take a break. When the time comes, we'll go check out the goods."

Maozi saw that he couldn't get anything out of him, and he also knew that it might be difficult to say. When he was waiting here alone, he was already in a state of half asleep and half awake, but he was unsure and didn't dare to fall into a deep sleep.

Now that Gao Mingcheng is back, he can sleep peacefully.

Gao Mingcheng covered him with a worn blanket from the cabin and sat cross-legged on the ground. The dagger was tucked into his waist, hidden by his slightly loose coat so it would not be easily discovered.

In the light of the fire, he glanced at the watch on his wrist and saw that it was almost eleven o'clock.

The other party said that he would check the goods in the early morning, but did not specify the specific time. In order to get back as soon as possible, he could only run back and forth as fast as possible.

As for Gao Guobing and his men, they had to hide in the mountains and suffer the cold wind.

Fortunately, it was already evening when they went out, and they were all wearing thin cotton clothes.

About half an hour later, someone suddenly approached the cabin.

When Old Chen pushed the door open, he saw Gao Mingcheng sitting cross-legged by the fire, while Maozi was lying beside him and snoring.

Seeing both of them here, Old Chen breathed a sigh of relief. When Gao Mingcheng saw him, he immediately stood up and said, "Is it time to check out the goods?"

Lao Chen nodded and said, "It will be soon. I will come to call you in advance."

Gao Mingcheng said: "I slept before and it was very cold. I still need to light a fire. But there is only light, and I can't sleep well again. I'll go to check the goods quickly and buy something so that I can go down the mountain."

After hearing this, Old Chen felt that there was nothing wrong with it. Some people prefer darkness when they sleep and are afraid of light.

He looked at Maozi who was sleeping soundly, thought for a moment, and said, "There can't be too many people looking at the goods. Since you haven't woken up yet, forget it. Just come with me."

Old Chen thinks that the Russians look like greenhorns and they might start yelling when they get there, which would be bad.

As for the boss, he looked calm and composed, maybe he was a gangster. And since he brought money with him, he was polite to him.

Gao Mingcheng glanced at Maozi and thought that even if Maozi followed him, he wouldn't be able to do anything, so he had to make sure nothing happened to him.

So they agreed to Lao Chen's proposal, and the two of them quietly left the cabin and walked towards the top of the mountain.

When Gao Mingcheng left, he added some firewood and closed the door.

As for the ventilation problem, there is no need to worry because there are many gaps in the cabin, and cold air will flow in even if the door is closed.

As soon as he walked out of the cabin, Gao Mingcheng couldn't help but shrink his neck.

Before, people were sitting by the fire, feeling warmed by the fire, but now they are blown by the cold wind, it is really like a world of ice and fire.

This time, Lao Chen was holding a flashlight and leading the way. When they encountered some places with bad road conditions, he would give one or two reminders.

After a while, Gao Mingcheng saw the shed on the top of the mountain from afar.

Gao Mingcheng pointed to the traces of new soil left beside the shed and the Luoyang shovel on the ground and said, "Old Chen, is this a raw pit? I want a raw pit too, but you can't fool me with the price."

Old Chen was not particularly surprised. He just smiled and said, "Boss, are you also in the same industry? What's your name?"

Gao Mingcheng did not say his name, but only said: "I am half an insider in the industry, but I only buy goods occasionally. Anyway, raw pits have their own prices, and patina has its own prices. If you fool me, I will not buy it."

This time, Lao Chen nodded straightforwardly and said, "Okay! Our prices are definitely fair. If there were not too many things and you couldn't move them yourself, you wouldn't sell them here." (End of this chapter)
