Chapter 25 Sending Honey Home
When Gao Mingcheng saw him packing his things, he knew that school would start tomorrow, and he would have to go to school early in the afternoon and then stay in the school.
The junior high school was in the town, and it took two hours to walk there from their village. Naturally, they couldn't go back and forth every day, so they had to live in the school. When they had a holiday on Saturday, they would go back home and bring some clothes to change and some pickles. If they needed money for anything, they had to get money from their parents.
"Mingli, Shufang." Gao Mingcheng leaned against the window and greeted his brother and sister-in-law.
Both people in the room looked up and smiled.
In fact, Gao Mingli and Gao Shufang liked their second brother Gao Mingcheng very much. After all, Gao Mingcheng was good at fighting and was well-known in the neighborhood. When they were young, some naughty children in the neighborhood did not dare to bully them when they heard that their brother was Gao Mingcheng.
"Second brother, come in. Fourth brother is going to school. Let's talk." Gao Shufang waved her hand, motioning Gao Mingcheng to come in.
"No, I have something to do later. Here, this is the honey I got from the mountains for my family! Fourth brother, eat a few more bites later." Gao Mingcheng spoke with a smile and sent a bowl of honey directly in through the window.
Gao Shufang hurried forward to take it. She smelled the unique sweetness of honey and her mouth was watering.
Everyone knows that there is honey in the mountains, but only a few people can get it.
Firstly, it is not easy to find a beehive. Secondly, even if you find a beehive, not everyone dares to touch it. After all, most country people have experienced the feeling of being stung by a bee.
That kind of pain would make most people give up the idea of stealing honey.
Gao Shufang was a girl after all, so she was much more careful. She resisted the urge to salivate over the honey and asked with concern, "Second brother, were you stung by the honey?"
She looked carefully at Gao Mingcheng's face. Generally speaking, the face is most likely to be stung.
However, Gao Mingcheng's face was clean, without any redness or swelling.
Gao Mingcheng leaned his upper body on the windowsill, smiling nonchalantly: "Who am I? I run so fast that bees can't catch up with me! Tell my parents not to be reluctant to eat it, I can get it again in the future."
"Oh, the bowl belongs to Gao Zhuang's family. After you free up the bowl, send it to Gao Zhuang's house. I have something else to do later, so I won't come to get it."
Having said that, Gao Mingcheng was about to leave.
Gao Shufang quickly called out to him, "Second brother, are you really going to marry Xuanyuemei? Gao Fuqiang's wife came over and told me yesterday that my parents are very angry."
"The country advocates free love. I am responding to the country's call. Arranged marriages are feudal remnants and should not be tolerated! Mingli, Shufang, don't be timid. When you get married, you have to find someone you like. Otherwise, what's the difference between you and breeding pigs?" Gao Mingcheng said with a grin, encouraging his two younger brothers and sisters-in-law openly and secretly.
In their previous life, their marriage was a semi-arranged marriage. They got married and had children after a blind date. Although they didn't have many quarrels, their life was dull and there didn't seem to be much passion.
Of course, Gao Mingcheng was just talking casually and would not really interfere in the marriages of his brothers and sisters.
Gao Shufang wrinkled her nose, thinking that her second brother's words were too harsh. What did he mean by pig breeding? It was really unbearable to watch.
Gao Mingcheng smiled and was about to leave when Gao Mingli said, "Second brother, I'm going to school this afternoon. You can come home and sleep tonight. It won't be crowded for two people to sleep together."
The three brothers squeezed into one bed, which was okay in the winter but a bit stuffy in the summer.
But it’s not a good idea for my second brother to always live in other people’s homes. Although my parents didn’t say anything, they obviously have some objections.
Gao Mingli asked him to come back and live there, but Gao Mingcheng didn't want to come back.
It’s not that he covets Gao Zhuang’s good conditions, but he needs some private space now.
He needs to sit cross-legged in meditation at night and run around during the day. If he gets some wild game or mountain products, and leaves them at home where there are so many people around, there might be trouble.
But at Gao Zhuang's house, neither Xi Nainai nor Gao Zhuang would covet his things, and they would keep their mouths shut.
So, only fools would go home and live!
Gao Mingcheng turned around and left, waving his hand with his back to them: "Let's go."
After watching him leave, Gao Mingli and Gao Shufang looked at each other, and then their attention was drawn to the bowl of honey.
The bowl is very big, and a full bowl of honey weighs more than one pound.
White sugar now costs one yuan per pound. My family rarely buys it. Even if we buy it, it is hidden by my mother and will not be easily eaten by others.
"Shall we eat something first?" Gao Mingli asked tentatively.
There were only two of them at home now, so if they both ate a little and kept silent, no one would know.
Anyway, this was given to me by my second brother, and it wasn’t bought by our family.
Gao Shufang was also very greedy and nodded quickly. Then the brother and sister acted like thieves. They first picked up some honey with clean chopsticks and ate it, then dissolved some honey with warm water and drank the honey water happily.
"It's so sweet! It tastes better than the soda I buy!" Gao Shufang had a look of satisfaction on her face. She drank it in small sips, afraid that if she drank too much, it would be gone.
Gao Mingli didn't say anything. He ate more than Gao Shufang.
Didn’t my second brother just say that he should eat more?
Once he goes to school, he won’t be able to eat it anymore!
Gao Shufang also knew this, so she didn't compete with Gao Mingli, but just drank the wine in her own bowl with care.
After leaving his own home, Gao Mingcheng returned to Gao Zhuang's home. He picked up the washed knife and bucket and prepared to return them to Xuanyue.
The sound of a radio came from Gao Zhuang's room, and Gao Mingcheng shouted outside: "I'm going out. You can listen to the story for a while before going to the mountains."
It was too sunny outside, and the group of tomb robbers would most likely not come until tomorrow, so Gao Mingcheng simply asked Gao Zhuang to stay at home and rest.
However, as soon as he finished speaking, the sound of the radio disappeared.
Gao Zhuang ran out of the house, his face full of excitement, "I won't listen anymore, let's go to the mountains!"
Ever since he successfully caught four rabbits, Gao Zhuang felt that he was so amazing. He wanted to take advantage of this good fortune to catch more rabbits.
Gao Mingcheng thought for a moment, picked up a hoe and put it on his shoulder, and said, "There are many wild animals in the mountains. Let's dig a few more traps. Then we don't have to spend every day there. We can just check every morning and evening."
Gao Zhuang was very convinced of his brother Ming Cheng's abilities and agreed without saying a word.
The two of them went out together and visited many beautiful homes first.
Xuanyu was also at home this time. The two sisters were drying some vegetables in the yard, including red peppers, eggplants, and long beans.
These three vegetables are the most abundant at the moment. If we plant them on one mu of land, our family will not be able to eat them all. The surplus must either be sold at the market or dried and saved for winter when there are fewer vegetables.
Manyumei was standing in the sun drying vegetables. When she looked up, she saw Gao Mingcheng coming over. She smiled before she said anything. Her cute little face was youthful and beautiful, and her pair of smiling eyes seemed to be glowing under the sun.
