Chapter 101: Showing Movies in the Countryside

After the hot summer passed, Shen Zixi had become much whiter at home, and he and several other children of the same age could already count to twenty, although his handwriting was still not very good.

One month before the autumn harvest, on the day when the village distributed grain, the villagers were also told a piece of good news.

In previous years, the rehearsals of films arranged by the county cinema and cultural center were usually in the town or in villages larger than the town. There was no chance at all for more remote places like Gengjiatun and Wangtu Village. This year, because the heads of the two villages joined forces to fight for it, and many workers from the two villages were admitted to the county factories, this was considered a chance for them to show up in the town. Therefore, the films "Tunnel Warfare" and "Scout" will be shown in the two villages for two consecutive days.

The villagers who knew the news were working in the fields. Those who had tools in their hands started waving them. Shen Anning, who was in the infirmary with the child, could feel everyone's excitement.

The two days when the movie was shown were specially chosen. The weather was very good. In September in Northeast China, the sun sets very early. It was dark at around six o'clock.

The movie was shown in the threshing ground. People from the two villages were close to each other, so naturally they got the most benefit. Villagers from several nearby villages also came with benches. Because the farm was a bit far away and the place in the village was not big enough, Liu Jiaman did not come this time. Anyway, there would be movies at the farm after the autumn harvest.

As soon as Shen Anyu and Shen Anxuan came back from school, they went to the threshing ground with a group of children from the village to reserve seats. Shen Anning had watched these two movies many times, so to be honest, she had no interest in them anymore. However, seeing the three children at home looking excited, she resigned herself to her fate, packed up her things, closed the door, and took Xixi to sit in the front row.

The best seats for watching movies are in the middle rows, because the twins get along well with the children in the village, are very sweet-talkers, and have good relationships with others. Several elderly village elders who do not have to work are willing to save seats for them.

The seniority levels were clearly marked, and long benches were placed in several rows. When the villagers arrived after work, they dared not say anything and could only line up obediently at the back, watching a group of children arrive late.

The threshing ground was crowded with people inside and outside. Many families had their children and men come first. Dinner was brought to the threshing ground by their families. It was just pickled vegetables, wild vegetables, steamed buns, and water.

Shen An Ning held Xixi and sat in the front. She had eaten dinner before coming, so it was okay. Shen Zixi was still young, and she couldn't help watching the people around her eating. She hummed and shrank in Shen An Ning's arms.

"Auntie, Xixi wants to eat. Rice, rice."

Looking at the saliva flowing from the corners of the little girl's mouth, Shen Anning wanted to laugh. She took out a handkerchief and wiped the saliva clean. "Didn't you eat a lot at home just now? Is baby Xixi greedy, huh?"

He took out a White Rabbit candy from his pocket and peeled off the wrapper. "Here, have a candy. But you can only have this one today, okay?"

"Yeah, promise!"

There were children nearby who saw Xixi eating candy, but Xixi was young, so no one thought it was a big deal, and the other children didn't ask for it. After Xixi showed off a piece of candy and took out a handkerchief, Shen An Ning wiped her hands clean, which were covered with a mixture of saliva and sugar water, and were very sticky.

"Hahahahaha, auntie."

"Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. Your hands are dirty. Don't wipe them on your aunt. Be careful or I'll beat you up later."

Looking at the intimidated Shen Zixi, "An Yu, go and wet this handkerchief with some water, Xixi's hands are too sticky."

"It's so sticky, uncle."

The children around were all amused by Shen Zixi. The little guy was not afraid of people and laughed along with others.

The movie lasted about an hour. After the projectionist finished his meal at the village committee, he finally arrived at the threshing ground with his equipment amid everyone's cheers.

This might be the first time Shen Zixi watched this kind of screen movie, and she was very curious. Shen An Ning hadn't brought her into the space when she was awake for about half a year, so the little girl had forgotten some of the cartoons she had watched before. She only occasionally showed some puzzled eyes or doubts when Shen An Ning said some words.

Shen An Ning, who originally thought that Xixi was young and would be frightened by the sound of gunfire, looked at Xixi who was moving around in his arms and dancing with joy, and said that he was really worrying too much. It was as if he was going to a war.

"Wow, ah, go for it, we won. Yeah..."

All night, Shen An Ning sat among the children, her ears never resting. She listened to a few children shouting from the beginning to the end, and watched the curtain being drawn up. A few children were still not satisfied, and a group of older children were shouting loudly to come early tomorrow night so that they could watch both movies again.

After getting the projectionist's assurance, she calmed down a little. On the way home, Shen Anning held Xixi in her arms. The little girl was so excited that she was not sleepy at all. She kept saying the lines she had memorized while watching the movie.

Listening to the childish words, Shen Anning couldn't help but ask: "The movie is so good? Does Xixi like it very much?"

"Well, uncle shoots guns, take Xixi to play with him. Like uncle."

Xixi remembered the bedtime games every night very clearly. An Yu was very happy holding Shen Zixi's little hand. There were three girls in the family and he was the only man, so he consciously took on more responsibilities. Therefore, when his little niece said such words of confession, his heart was very warm.

After returning home, several people did not rush to sleep. They waited until everyone in the village had rested. It was late, so Shen Anning took out the food that had been prepared before watching the movie from the kitchen, heated it up briefly, and went to their grandparents' house.

Grandpa and grandma didn't go to the movies today, and Xixi missed them a little. Right now, her desire to share was particularly strong. When she heard that they were going to visit her great-grandparents, she, who was originally lying on the kang and feeling drowsy, instantly became energetic and got up on her own.

"Auntie, little auntie, give me a hug."

The night was quite dark and the shadows of the trees were very sparse. A few people were walking on the road, very stealthily, not even disturbing the dogs in the village.

Grandpa Shen and Grandma Shen had already opened the door and were waiting for them. When they saw little Xixi come into the room, they hugged her and kept calling her "darling" and "baby".

"Grandpa, today, Xixi, watch the shooting, biubiubiubiu, it's so fun."

"Hahaha, oh, okay, Xixi will be a female soldier in the future." Thinking of the fact that Shen Anyan also wanted to join the army, but was stopped by him, it seems that now what kind of adults are, what kind of children are. Who knows, maybe in the future Xixi will make up for her father's regret.
