When Shen Anning arrived at the cram school, Xu Hongxia was already there. A shed had been set up in the yard, and several parents were sitting inside.
Xu Hongxia pulled Shen Anning into the house and explained, "They are all parents of students from nearby schools. Their children are taking tutoring classes here this year. The school results haven't been announced yet. There are people crowding the door. Come and have a drink here."
Shen Anning greeted the parents and sat on a chair to prepare the teaching materials and information for the next semester. Everyone was anxious at this point, and she really couldn't sit still unless she arranged something for herself.
When it was almost ten o'clock, the parents in the yard went back to the school gate one by one to continue waiting for the results. Xu Hongxia and two other teachers also walked to the door from time to time to look around. This time, the students' college entrance examination results were crucial to their cram school.
Watching several people walking around in the yard, Shen Anning felt dizzy. The sun was very strong at noon, making people feel depressed.
"Hongxia, I'm going to the store to buy some popsicles. You guys sit down and take a break. There will definitely be students and parents coming over when the results come out." After all, there are prizes waiting here, and those who do well in the exam will definitely not be left out.
They walked through the alley and came to the street supply and marketing cooperative. The weather was hot and the popsicles sold quickly. When Shen Anning arrived, there was a child in front of her buying them. She took a look and saw that there were only a dozen or so left in the wooden box.
"I want all of these. Please pack them for me."
The elder sister who bought the popsicles looked at Shen Anning and said, "You want all of them? Girl, it's hot out here, and the popsicles won't last long. They'll melt soon."
"It's okay, sister. I'm eating with my classmates and they're nearby."
Hearing this, the elder sister said nothing more and helped her wrap it with oil paper. Shen An Ning ate one and took a pack. When she walked to the alley, she saw several students entering the yard of their cram school.
Peng Zhe saw Shen Anning come in and stepped forward excitedly, “Sister, come here quickly, guess how many points I got in the exam this time?”
Looking at him like this, Shen Anning knew that this guy must have done well in the exam, and his pride was too obvious.
"Number one in the city?"
Peng Zhe's spirit was instantly broken by these words. "Sister, please stop teasing me."
"Okay, how many points did you get on the test?"
"490 points, eighth in the city, not bad."
Shen Anning handed over the popsicle in his hand and asked him to distribute it to the people in the yard, "Dear parents and classmates, if you know your scores, please register with us."
Each student was given a number when they registered to facilitate their statistical work today.
The yard was bustling with people all day long. Some students, even those who didn't get into college or university, still came to talk about their grades and asked about the start date of the next semester of the cram school.
Just when everyone was having fun, suddenly, there was a noise at the door.
"Who is the person in charge of your cram school? Ask her to come out."
"Don't pull me. Why are you pulling me in broad daylight? My son is studying at your cram school, but he can't even get into a junior college. And you still say your cram school is good? Bullshit!"
"Look everyone, don't be fooled here, this cram school is a scam."
Xu Hongxia's face wasn't very good when she heard the noise outside. When their cram school was first established, there were people who came to make trouble, but everyone could see the effectiveness of their tutoring. Those with poor grades could make progress as long as they were willing to listen and learn, so the people who made the noise later on just let it go.
I didn't expect that someone would come here to cause trouble on the day the college entrance examination results came out. This was clearly intentional.
When Shen Anning walked to the door, she saw a middle-aged woman in her forties or fifties standing on the steps and cursing loudly, with a group of people gathered in the alley.
"Auntie, if you have anything to say, let's go inside and talk. It's so sunny outside. If you have any opinions about us, go in and have a drink of water and talk slowly." Shen An Ning's move made the woman who cursed a little uncomfortable.
"Yes, big sister, if you have anything to say, come in and tell me. The teachers in this cram school are pretty good."
"Bah, what's good about that? My son usually has good grades. The teachers at school all said he had a good chance of getting into college. But look at the end, he only got over 100 points on the test. If that's not bad, what's wrong with their teaching?"
Shen Anning was a little surprised to hear this. Logically, if one's grades were good, there wouldn't be any big mistakes in the college entrance examination as long as he didn't fall asleep.
"Auntie, don't worry. Tell me your child's name and we'll go check the situation."
"Yeah, it's not nice of you to start scolding me without saying anything, big sister."
The middle-aged woman was clearly furious. She sat down on the doorstep and said, "My son's name is Li Tian, and he's from No. 3 Middle School. Not only did you charge me 24 yuan for this cram school at the beginning, but you also asked for more money twice afterwards. The total is 50 or 60 yuan. Can you tell me if I'm furious?"
"Oh, that's not right. It's 24 here. The meal costs 8 more. I didn't ask for more money."
"That's right, big sister, you must have made a mistake and didn't pay the second time."
Qin Hong didn't know what to do after hearing this. She didn't see her son when she got home from get off work at noon today. She asked the neighbor's child and found out that her son had done very poorly in the exam. He was so angry that he came over to make a scene.
She sat on the doorstep, unable to believe that her son would lie to her.
Xu Hongxia brought over a few test papers and transcripts. Each classroom in their cram school was taught by two or three teachers, so cheating was definitely out of the question. She handed over the transcripts, "He's from No. 3 Middle School. He lives in the textile factory compound. Li Tian scored 90 on his first placement test. We discussed this with him at the outset, and we knew he wouldn't have much hope this year. After sixteen days of tutoring, his final score was 162, a 72-point improvement."
