Chapter 53 Sending Things to the Cowshed

I packed up my things and looked at the time. It was half past six and it was already completely dark. Today was New Year's Eve and no one would go out.

Shen Anning decided to go with her grandparents. There were too many things for the two old people to carry, and Shen Anning also wanted to see Grandpa Cao.

From Grandpa Shen, Shen Anning learned that the Cao family had been in business for generations. They had spent most of their wealth during the Anti-Japanese War and donated a lot after the founding of the People's Republic of China. They were red capitalists and there was nothing wrong with it. However, the couple's son and daughter-in-law died early, leaving only a grandson, Cao Jingheng, who was assigned to the army a few years ago.

Originally, nothing would have happened to the two old people at home. Who would have thought that they were discovered last month when they took things out to exchange for food. Although those people did not find anything in their home, they were sure that they had hidden themselves and settled the matter privately. You know, a lean camel is bigger than a horse. How could a family that has been doing business for generations not have hidden treasures? Fortunately, there were a few old friends in the capital who secretly arranged for them to go to Gengjiatun.

I picked up a little bit of each dish on the table and put it in the lunch box, and packed two boxes of dumplings. I also took out the remaining snacks in the cupboard at home and packed them. I also took some of the frozen sticky rice dumplings, meat buns, and steamed buns made from two kinds of flour in the kitchen jar and put them in a cloth bag, and put them all in the backpack.

There were too many things, so Shen Anning carried a backpack, while Grandpa Shen and Grandma Shen carried snakeskin bags containing quilts and cotton clothes.

There were not many people along the way. The cowshed in Gengjiatun was very large, with several adobe and thatched houses built next to it. Four people had lived there before, and now with Grandpa Cao and his wife, there were exactly three couples.

Shen Zhaolin knew where his old friend lived, so he didn't say a word on the way, walked in lightly, and pushed the door open.

Shen Zhaolin was surprised to see two other people sitting in the room through the light of the kerosene lamp.

Without saying anything, she first stepped aside to let her husband and granddaughter behind her enter the house. When Shen Anning saw Wang Wenjia and Lin Erjun, fireworks went off in her mind. What kind of luck was this? She had relied on the fact that the villagers didn't know her family background and used the big banner to bully others. It was so embarrassing.

Wang Wenjia was also stunned, staring at Shen Anning blankly, “Shen Zhiqing?”

"Yeah." Shen An Ning didn't want to say more, so she opened the backpack she brought and took things out one by one. Looking at the simple furnishings in the room, there was not even a table. Shen An Ning put the food directly on the head of the kang.

"You'd better find a place to hide these dry foods. Although the villagers won't come here, there will inevitably be people and children going up the mountain, as well as the idiots in the village. It will be bad if they see them." Shen An Ning handed the cloth bag filled with steamed buns and sticky rice dumplings to her mother-in-law who was standing there and was about the same age as her grandmother.

Wang Lingyun looked at Shen Anning and smiled. They knew that the granddaughter of the old Shen family was here before. “Good child, thank you.”

Shen Anning nodded and said, "It's okay, don't worry about it." He looked at Lin Erjun and Wang Wenjia and said, "Let's go together?"

"Oh, okay, Shen Zhiqing." Wang Wenjia pulled her husband up and followed Shen Anning.

The three men came out of the bullpen without saying a word. Wang Wenjia had a lot to say but didn't know what to say first, and Lin Erjun was completely confused.

After crossing the bridge, we went to Shen Anning's house first. Looking at the two people behind, Shen Anning felt helpless. "It's too late today. You go back first. The day after tomorrow, the second day of the New Year, you come to pay New Year's greetings and say thank you for saving my life. Then we can have a good chat."

Not wanting to see the expressions of the two people behind him, Ana Shen walked straight in.

Lying on the kang, Shen Anning really wanted to say that this world is so wonderful. How could it be such a coincidence? Wang Lingyun and Wang Wenjia must be very close relatives, otherwise it would be impossible to risk going to see them.

The two children on the kang were already asleep. I touched Shen Zixi's back and found that she was not sweating. Fortunately, I put the cradle on the ground. The temperature on the kang was high, and the little girl was prone to sweating these nights.
