Chapter 101: Mountain Frog

Fang Yuan withdrew his gaze from Lu Zhiye, put his hands behind his back, and limped towards the rugged mountain road.

Lu Zhiye followed behind him in silence.

Although Dahe Village is only away from the river from the top of a hill, the road is not easy to travel on.

Fang Yuan had to take a rest after walking for a distance, and his breathing was heavy.

Those miserable days destroyed not only people's spirits but also their bodies.

The shadows of branches were cast on the ground. With the weak moonlight, Fang Yuan waved to Lu Zhiye: "Lu boy, come here."

Lu Zhiye strode over and asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"

Fang Yuan tapped his aching leg and looked at Lu Zhiye: "Is it okay for you to carry me on your back?"

Lu Zhiye occasionally heard rumors about the person in front of him in the village.

She lived a very miserable life in the second half of her life. Because of her identity, her children cut off all ties with her.

He seldom went out on weekdays and lived on the vegetables in his yard and the small amount of grain distributed by the brigade every year.

Although feudal superstition is still being cracked down on, the village has become much more relaxed.

Whenever a child was frightened, they would ask Grandma Fang to take a look and she would give the child two eggs as a reward afterwards.

Lu Zhiye pursed his lips and squatted in front of Fang Yuan.

Even though the old lady on my back was wearing a thick cotton coat, she still didn't weigh much.

The mountain road was difficult to walk on, and Lu Zhiye walked very slowly. Suddenly, he heard a sigh behind him.

He was confused, but did not ask.

The night is as silky as silk, and the moonlight is as silver, sprinkling in the silent forest, outlining the figures of an old man and a young boy.

Finally, they were almost at the foot of the mountain. Fang Yuan patted Lu Zhiye on the shoulder and said, "Okay, put it down."

Lu Zhiye moved slowly, causing a gentle smile to appear on Fang Yuan's serious face.

She stretched out her hand and patted Lu Zhiye on the body a few times: "Lu family boy, the past is all gone.

Cherish the one around you. Your grandma is very happy to see you grow up."

Lu Zhiye's eyes widened slightly, and a hint of redness spread under his eyes.

He had too many doubts in his mind, but his mouth seemed to be sealed and he couldn't utter a word for a long time.

Fang Yuan pointed to the mountains in the distance and said, "Let's go. Look carefully at the way we came and don't lose your way."

With a bit of confusion in his mind, Lu Zhiye turned and left.

"After all, no one can show you the way again." Fang Yuan's low voice sounded and dissipated under the moonlight with the night wind.

The tall treetops swayed gently in the night breeze, and the yellow leaves rustled.

Fang Yuan looked up at the slightly swaying leaves, his lips curled up slightly: "Old friend, I did what I promised you."

No one answered, only the rustling of leaves and the swaying of dead grass responded.

Watching Lu Zhiye disappear, Fang Yuan pounded his legs and walked towards his hut with one deep step and one shallow step.

A cold wind blew, and Lu Zhiye's confused mind suddenly became clear as if it was hit by ice.

He looked towards the village at the foot of the mountain in confusion, but the old lady was no longer there.

Alarm bells rang in his heart. He couldn't make any sound just now, as if he was being controlled.

This has never happened before. Lu Zhiye had fear in his eyes. These witches were too weird.

Don’t get close, don’t get close, he warned himself in his heart.

Lu Zhiye walked towards the dam at the speed of the wind, not daring to stop at all.

He didn't even notice the bits of ash falling from his body.

When he returned to the sleeping shed, Zhong Wende was still waiting for him. Seeing Lu Zhiye coming back, he hurried over to him and asked, "Are you okay?"

Lu Zhiye smiled and shook his head: "Captain Lu asked me to see someone off. It's okay. You should go to bed early."

Only then did Zhong Wende feel relieved.

Lu Zhiye got some hot water from the space to wash his feet, then lay down on the straw and fell asleep.

Neither of them noticed Kong Xiuzhu's half-open eyes in the darkness.

When they went to work again the next day, the villagers were still discussing what had happened yesterday.

The blood at the place where he fell had already dried up. Captain Lu asked people to cover that area with soil, but the villagers pushed and shoved and were unwilling to do so.

In the end, it was Zhong Wende who volunteered to pick up the iron shovel and cover that area.

After working for more than half a month, many people had cracked cuts on their faces and hands. The team leader looked at the increasingly cold weather and smoked his pipe in worry.

Lu Jianguo ran into the shed excitedly: "Brother, how is it? Nothing has happened to us in the past half month. This old lady Fang is quite capable!"

Captain Lu patted him on the shoulder and said, "Are you afraid that others can't hear you and believe in feudal superstition?"

Lu Jianguo slapped his mouth lightly and talked about another thing: "Last night, the men in the village sneaked up the mountain and caught a few forest frogs in a mountain river.

I guess there are still quite a few down there, do you want to…?"

Captain Lu's eyes lit up. Forest frog, that's a good thing.

"Find a few men, go up the mountain in the afternoon, keep your mouth shut and don't let anyone find out."

Lu Jianguo slurped his saliva and agreed repeatedly.

During the lunch break, he ordered a dozen skilled men, including Lu Zhiye.

A dozen people quietly came to the Nuanquan River where the forest frog was discovered yesterday.

He picked up a stone to break the thin ice on top and reached his hand into the water.

After determining the location, I took out the fish basket and placed it under the water flow. I searched several locations in a row and placed quite a few baskets.

When the warm spring water is very cold in winter, only a thin layer of ice will form on the surface. If you put your hand in the water, the water temperature is not freezing cold. Places like this are the most likely to have wood frogs.

Several men were constantly poking and beating the water with sticks. When they saw forest frogs, they picked them up and threw them into the backpacks on the shore.

The forest frog has the most oil at this time.

Lu Zhiye quietly threw a few larger forest frogs into the water in the space.

In just one afternoon, most of the mountain spring had been explored, and the two large baskets of wood frogs made people drool.

Lu Jianguo reached out and picked up the baskets again. There were still a dozen or so in each basket.

His old face was smiling like a chrysanthemum: "Great harvest, great harvest."

Seeing that it was getting dark, he said loudly, "Come back tomorrow. Let's go back today. It's time for dinner."

Everyone's face revealed excitement, and they were vying to carry the basket full of forest frogs.

Lu Zhiye was speechless. Can I eat one more if I carry it on my back? I was tired and wet, and I didn't know what to grab.
