Chapter 8: The Proud Mr. Lu

After finishing his meal, Lu Zhiye ordered ten big meat buns.

Then he turned and left.

He wrapped two big meat buns in oil paper and put the rest into the warehouse.

When we arrived at the ox cart, Master Lu was chewing his biscuit with his gapping teeth.

Seeing Lu Zhiye coming over, he waved at him with a smile: "Zhiye, have you eaten? I have a pancake that my wife baked. I'll give you half."

Lu Zhiye shook his head: "Grandpa Lu, I've eaten. This bun is for you."

He handed the bun wrapped in oil paper to Mr. Lu Sanye.

Mr. Lu Sanye didn't bother to be polite with him. He put the pancake in his arms and took the oil paper bag from Lu Zhiye's hand.

"Good boy, awesome!"

Seeing that Lu Zhiye had made great progress and no longer had to starve, Master Lu was truly happy for him.

Sitting on the ox cart, eating with his mouth full of oil.

He has bad teeth, so he shouldn't chew on those dry biscuits. Big hot meat buns are more suitable for him. Woohoo, they are so delicious.

Many people have not returned yet. They have all gone to the back of the purchasing station to exchange the eggs that they could not finish eating at home for money.

There are a lot of people queuing up, so it may take a while.

Lu Zhiye took the opportunity to sit next to Mr. Lu Sanye.

"Grandpa Lu, I need your help with something."

Master Lu wiped his mouth with his sleeve and said, "You go ahead."

"I want to exchange some rice and vegetable seedlings with your family."

Mr. Lu thought it was a big deal.

I didn't expect it to be this.

It seems that this kid has no food at home.

I even ate two of his big meat buns.

Mr. Lu San was filled with guilt.

He waved his hand and said, "How much do you want to exchange? You tell me, Grandpa Lu has everything."

Lu Zhiye reported a number, and Mr. Lu San looked at him with an indescribable look.

"Fifty kilograms... How dare you ask that."

Master Lu San was groaning inwardly. He still had six kilograms of rice in his family, but this kid asked for fifty kilograms right away...

Lu Zhiye also knew that he had reported a little too much.

But it seems that there are more than 20 acres of land that can be used for cultivation in his space.

Two kilograms of rice seeds are needed for one acre of land.

Pursing his lips, he said, "Grandpa Lu, aged rice is fine too. I'll exchange it for two cents more according to the grain collection standard of the commune."

Originally, Lu Zhiye wanted to go to the purchasing station to take a look, but his identity was there, and he heard that there were people from their village in the purchasing station.

It would be bad if someone found out and reported it.

Mr. Lu Sanye untied his pipe from his belt and knocked it hard against the car.

The commune only gave 1.3 cents for rice, and 1.5 cents for husked rice.

Lu Zhiye bought it directly according to the price of rice.

"Okay, Third Grandpa will do it for you!"

Mr. Lu San came close to Lu Zhiye again and said, "Do you want some wheat? We still have more than ten kilograms at home."

Lu Zhiye smiled and nodded: "Then I'll trouble you, Grandpa Lu."

While we were talking, someone came over.

Lu Zhiye put the backpack behind him and sat behind the ox cart.

An old lady curiously stretched her head to look at Lu Zhiye's backpack.

When I saw a little white showing from under the black cloth, I understood.

After the autumn harvest, it won’t be long before people in Northeast China start hibernating.

The quilt is not thick enough, I can’t get through it.

After returning to the village, Lu Zhiye cleaned his house carefully, found the old newspapers, and re-pasted the windows and bedside tables.

After that, he started making quilts on his own big kang.

When I was working hard on my own, I learned everything from cooking to sewing.

It took Lu Zhiye an entire afternoon to make a six-pound quilt.

Then I took out my old clothes, removed the usable fabrics, and sewed them onto the quilt.

Another mattress was made. Lu Zhiye ate four large buns and finally fell asleep contentedly.

Finally I don’t have to cover myself with that dirty and smelly quilt anymore!

Mr. Lu was very satisfied with his results.

The next day, when the whistle sounded, Lu Zhiye was ready to go to the fields.

He walked in front, followed by a dozen educated youth.

When the educated youth saw Lu Zhiye, they started discussing him in groups of three or four.

"Why do I feel that Lu Zhiye is different from before?"

A male educated youth, Liu Ping, said loudly: "What's the difference? He's still a landlord's kid."

It seemed that he was dissatisfied with the female educated youth's discussion about Lu Zhiye. He spoke so loudly that Lu Zhiye, who was walking in front, could hear it.

He stopped and turned to look at Liu Ping. His dark eyes made Liu Ping feel uneasy.

Liu Ping stiffened his neck and said, "Am I wrong? Aren't you a son of a landlord?"

Lu Zhiye said calmly: "I am, but my grandparents have passed away, and the higher-ups no longer pursue this issue.

What's more, the leaders say that everyone is equal, but your attitude clearly says that you are superior to others. Is it possible that the ideas you learned when you went to the countryside as educated youth are this kind of capitalist ideas?"

Zhou Guoliang, a good guy among the educated youth and the first one to go to the countryside, quickly stepped out to smooth things over: "Lu Zhiye, you misunderstood, he didn't mean that."

He tugged at Liu Ping's sleeve again and whispered, "Hurry up and apologize to them."

Liu Ping shook Zhou Guoliang's hand away: "Why do you want me to apologize?"

Zhou Guoliang wanted to turn around and leave, never to care about this stubborn guy again.

But he was the captain of his educated youth team.

"If you don't give in, do you want to be labeled a capitalist?"

Liu Ping was also frightened because he had seen with his own eyes the fate of those people who were demoted.

What's more, the relationship between the educated youth point and the brigade is not harmonious.

Even though Lu Zhiye is a descendant of a landlord, he is still a native of Dahe Village.
