Chapter 13: Hold a banquet!

The ox cart arrived at the village when it was almost dawn. After expressing their gratitude, Chang Sujun and Liang Jiaming went to the cave and pasted wedding characters on the window walls and door panels of the cave.

Just after the wedding characters were pasted, the village chief and Aunt Chen came over. Aunt Chen was carrying the pickled mustard tuber she had made. The village chief smiled and said, "You two are getting married today. Your Aunt Chen and I will come to look after you first. You two half-grown boys don't have much experience. I asked my grandson Ruifu to bring ten bottles of rice wine, which will be delivered to you later."

"I have also notified other educated youth and fellow villagers for you. It is still early, so let your aunt help you cook some dishes to entertain them."

"You went to the countryside to build the city, and your parents are not around. We, the older generation, see you as our own children, so we want to help you in any way we can!"

Liang Jiaming took the kimchi and said flatteredly, "Thank you for your help."

Chang Sujun took Aunt Chen to the kitchen in a thatched shed next to the cave. Behind the shed was a small enclosed courtyard where were grown vegetables and fruits that Liang Jiaming grew in his spare time.

Aunt Chen said: "You married a good and capable husband! You are so lucky!"

Chang Sujun was extremely happy to be praised, and he kept being humble: "It's not bad! Compared with you, I'm nothing."

Aunt Chen smiled and hit Chang Sujun, then stopped laughing and said seriously, "Let's make fried tomatoes, potatoes, rapeseed, lettuce, and..."

Chang Sujun smiled and continued, "Jiaming and I bought some pork yesterday, and added a portion of stir-fried pork with chili peppers and stir-fried beans to the dish."

Aunt Chen nodded with satisfaction and confirmed the dishes to be prepared. Chang Sujun and Aunt Chen each cooked their own specialty dishes.

The village chief's son Ruifu pulled a cart with large bottles of rice wine and tables and chairs on it. Liang Jiaming, the village chief and Ruifu moved the rice wine to the cave together.

Chang Sujun was distracted while cooking and saw this. She went into the cave and handed Ruifu a bottle of wine she bought yesterday: "It's just a little gift from you. Take it and drink it!"

Ruifu evaded the question: "This is too expensive."

Liang Jiaming: "It's just wine, I just want to try something new, it's not expensive."

The village chief said: "Little kid, if you like it, just take it. Why are you being so formal with your brother Liang and sister Chang?"

Ruifu obediently took the wine and put it in the car. After moving the rice wine and the table and chairs, he waved and said he would come back later if he had anything else.

After Chang Sujun and Aunt Chen finished cooking, the village chief and Liang Jiaming set up the table and chairs outside the cave, and the educated youth and villagers began to arrive in groups of three or four.

Wu Cuicui squeezed into the kitchen and saw the stir-fried pork and beans made by Chang Sujun. She was surprised and said, "I've never seen you cook before when I was in the educated youth camp! Didn't you say you can't cook? The dishes you make won't make us poisoned and give us all diarrhea!"

Chang Sujun's parents are both workers. She is the only daughter in the family and they dote on her. She doesn't have to go into the kitchen to cook and serve the whole family every day, but she is not so bad that she can't even cook a dish.

Chang Sujun thought that Wu Cuicui was definitely picking on her on purpose today!

Today is her wedding day, she can't get angry just because of a few words from her!

The educated youths who were sitting on chairs eating around the table heard Wu Cuicui's loud voice coming over. They leaned out their heads, looked at the dishes made by Chang Sujun and frowned: "Cuicui would not lie."

"It looks delicious, but I'm afraid it won't taste good..."

"It's such a pity that such good meat, beans and vegetables are wasted in her hands!"

"She has always been targeting Cuicui. We are helping Cuicui. She won't take advantage of the wedding to deliberately make terrible dishes to disgust us, will she?"

Dong Shuangshuang also came over to join in the conversation: "Given the vicious heart of the educated youth Chang, it is very possible. Sisters, we must be careful. Why not tell the other educated youth and villagers to be careful of the dishes she cooks."

The educated youth were silent for a while and then said, "Let's go and talk about it right away."

Chang Sujun heard the whispers, but kept silent because today was their wedding day.

Aunt Chen heard this and threw vegetable leaves at the people at the door, cursing, "You little bastards, how dare you go looking for trouble to ruin the educated youth Chang's wedding? I will report your good deeds to the educated youth office, and your work points will be reduced by half in the future!"

Wu Cuicui covered her mouth pitifully, Dong Shuangshuang stomped her feet angrily, and the other educated youths instantly scattered and sat obediently on the chairs waiting for the banquet.

The dishes were served, and the educated youth and villagers all sat down to eat. Chang Sujun saw the educated youth eating the delicious food, so he sat over and asked with a smile: "How does the food I cooked taste? Is it poisonous?"

The food Wu Cuicui had eaten was stuck in her stomach. She had just taken several bites of the fried pork with chili peppers made by Chang Zhiqing. Now she didn't know whether to eat it or spit it out.

At the dinner table, the educated youths ate several bites of the dishes made by the educated youth Chang: "It's delicious! Cuicui said you have never cooked before, and it doesn't seem like you..."

"I didn't expect that Chang Zhiqing's cooking is so delicious. Please teach us next time!"

"You guys are only paying attention to the food. Didn't anyone notice that Chang Zhiqing's hairstyle and cheongsam look really good today?"

The educated youths exclaimed: "Zhang Zhiqing, your cheongsam must be very expensive!"

Chang Sujun looked at Dong Shuangshuang and said calmly, "I don't know if it's expensive or not. Jiaming said he would buy it for me as long as I like it."

When she and Jiaming put up the wedding characters, they changed their clothes into cheongsams.

The educated youths: "Oh my god! I'm so fed up with dog food! Liang Zhiqing is such a good man who dotes on his wife!"

"I'm looking for a partner to marry, and I want him to buy me a cheongsam when we get married!"

Dong Shuangshuang threw her chopsticks angrily and said, "I don't want to eat anymore!"

She left after she vented her anger. The educated youths were talking about it: "What happened to Shuangshuang?"

"It was the wedding day of Chang Zhiqing and Liang Zhiqing, why did she just throw her chopsticks and leave? This is not a good thing..."

The villagers who were eating scolded: "Shuangshuang is ill-mannered."

"I thought she was well-behaved before, but now she gets angry on someone's wedding day without considering the occasion. Her personality is becoming more and more rebellious."

Dong Jianguo tried to smooth things over: "Shuangshuang is not feeling well today, you two can eat your food, I'll go take a look."

The educated youth and villagers believed it and thought it was understandable and stopped discussing it.

Chang Sujun sat next to Wu Cuicui and said lightly, "Cuicui said I can't cook and I can poison people."

The educated youths were stunned: "Cuicui did say that."

"You must be kidding!"

"Yeah, you're kidding!"

Chang Sujun added: "Cuicui can also lie!"

Chang Sujun chuckled inwardly, and both of you sounded unsure if Wu Cuicui was really joking.

It is to plant the seeds of doubt about her in your hearts.

Wu Cuicui pretended not to hear and ate her food, not daring to look up at Chang Sujun.

The educated youth and villagers wished Chang Sujun and Liang Jiaming a son soon and two in three years.

The banquet ended at noon. Liang Jiaming was drunk. When almost everyone had left, Chang Sujun helped Liang Jiaming to the bed. He held her hand with blurry eyes, rubbed his cheek against her hand, and shouted dizzily: "Wife, don't go!"
