Chapter 5 Suspicion

When Aunt Chang heard the village chief's voice, she shook her head like a rattle.

This matter must not be known to the village chief.

When the other educated youth heard the village chief's voice, they all tacitly pretended that nothing had happened.

No one wanted to cause the previous dispute again, and no one was happy to lose work points.

Chang Sujun and Liang Jiaming didn't say anything else. They finished their meal in silence, then they took their bowls and found a place with two empty seats to sit down. They looked at each other, smiled, and started eating.

Seeing that no one came to answer his doubts, the village chief did not bother to care about it anymore. The most important thing was to let these educated youth finish their meals as soon as possible and then urge them to go to work.

After dinner, Chang Sujun was assigned to cut grass for pigs as usual, and Liang Jiaming went to carry the sacks full of pig grass to the car.

Chang Sujun was cutting grass for the pigs. Wu Cuicui came over with a smile on her face and said amiably:

"I'm so glad you're okay yesterday. I was so worried when I saw you running to the river."

"Don't be mad at me. I didn't mean it when I tied a rope around the tree to trip you yesterday. Liang Yaonan threatened me that if I didn't help him, he would send a letter home asking his father not to help my father make money anymore."

"My dad still has to earn money to support the family. I also have a seven-year-old brother and a 65-year-old grandmother. I don't want to help him, but I have to think about my family."

"You can understand me! Can you forgive me?"

Chang Sujun looked at her coldly: "Are you still pretending? I remember clearly that you snatched me from Wei Zhiqing's hands, and you promised Wei Zhiqing that you would send me to his room while he buried the medicine bag in the soil under the tree."

"You turned around and whispered in my ear that I would wait for you by the river and you would help me get the antidote. What if I accidentally drowned in the river when I was not in my right mind last night?"

"The village chief said that you were the one who told them to jump into the river because they were so depressed. I guess you have already thought about my fate. Take them to collect my body. Stop pretending to be Wu Zhiqing."

Wu Cuicui sneered, and suddenly her face collapsed with horror and she shouted:

"I'm sorry! It's my fault!"

"I was just too scared, so I couldn't stop you at that time."

Now that she knows, it would be better to just break up with her.

The educated youth who were cutting grass for pigs nearby heard the sound and looked towards the two men.

Wu Cuicui suddenly grabbed Chang Sujun's hand and said with tears streaming down her face:

"Can you please forgive me for what happened before?"

Chang Sujun was stunned.

She had never seen such a scene before. She didn't react immediately when Wu Cuicui grabbed her hand. She was a little confused and didn't know what she was doing.

Suddenly, Wu Cuicui fell backwards and fell to the ground.

She covered her face with her hands and choked, "I know you were too angry. Angry that I didn't stop you last night, so you accidentally pushed me down."

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone and I won't blame you."

When the educated youths saw Chang Sujun pushing Wu Cuicui to the ground, they immediately helped Wu Cuicui up and asked her about her health: "Wu Zhiqing! Are you hurt?"

He glared at me angrily.

"Cuicui is a kind-hearted person and she doesn't blame you for pushing her down. But you can't go too far."

"We've all heard about what happened last night. It was you and Liang Zhiqing who went to the river to meet secretly. Cuicui just misunderstood. She didn't explain it clearly when she stopped you. Why are you blaming Cuicui now???"

"That's right! Cuicui is such a good person, how could you do that to her? You were lazy and got up late, so you didn't eat and are hungry. It was Cuicui who secretly brought you some steamed bread. Have you forgotten?"

"Chang Zhiqing, you can't be so heartless."

Chang Sujun now understood that Wu Cuicui wanted to stir up disputes between me and the educated youth and to alienate us.

If she really started a quarrel, it would just suit Wu Cuicui's wishes.

Chang Sujun thought of this, raised his hand and slapped Wu Cuicui hard when she was caught off guard.

“Pah—”

Wu Cuicui turned her head and opened her eyes wide in shock.

Chang Sujun said calmly: "I didn't push her, she fell on her own and tried to scam me."

"And what you said, she brought me steamed bread, which made me have diarrhea all night, and I couldn't get up when I went to work."

"It's not that I'm lazy."

Wu Cuicui covered her face and cried, "I don't blame you. If you help me write a letter home, I will forgive you."

She will never let the bitch Chang go!

Chang Sujun looked at her coldly: "I did nothing wrong, why should I apologize to you."

After saying this, she stopped explaining to these people.

Wu Cuicui's two followers started to make a noise:

"Everyone, give us your judgment! Chang Zhiqing beat someone up and acted so confidently!"

Other educated youths: "If you don't apologize to Cuicui, we won't play with you anymore!"

Because now many people trust Wu Cuicui the most, even if she talks a lot, people don't necessarily have to believe what she says.

It’s better to save the effort.

In her previous life, Wu Cuicui asked Chang Sujun for help and wrote letters to her.

Later, on the way back home, Chang Sujun's family received bad news. Her parents were deceived by a letter she sent and moved to an unfinished building.

Fell from the upstairs.

She had identified the handwriting on the letter and found that it was hers.

But she never wrote it.

When her parents passed away, her relatives all stabbed her in the back, saying that she was heartless and had killed her own parents.

She lived her whole life in the pain of losing her parents and the stigma she bore, and the pain of being deceived by Wei Yaonan and Wu Cuicui in her marriage.

In her previous life, the only people who had a grudge against her were Wei Yaonan and Wu Cuicui. Now it seems that it is very likely that Wu Cuicui imitated her handwriting.

Chang Sujun gritted his teeth and cut grass for the pigs without saying a word.

It's just a suspicion now, and we must not alert the enemy. If Wu Cuicui really did it in the previous life, she must be sent to prison in this life.

At lunch time, Chang Sujun did not go to find Liang Jiaming, but went back to the educated youth point. She rummaged through the trash can and finally found the steamed corn bread that Wu Cuicui gave her last time.

In this way, she could prove to the educated youth who supported Wu Cuicui that what she said was true.

She was delighted, but was stopped by Wei Yaonan.

He: "Su Jun, I heard you calling Liang Zaixing "Brother Liang" today. Please come back to me. I know you said it on purpose for me to hear."

"You did it to piss me off so I could coax you. You're not really in love with that bastard Liang Zaixing."

When Wei Yaonan said this, Liang Jiaming was hiding outside the door with a serious expression.
