Zhou Ye booked a window seat, which offered a perfect view of the spring river before nightfall.
The dishes on the table were to Xiaoxi's liking, but they were a bit bland.
Mr. Xie, who had been relatively quiet until now, suddenly became more active at the table.
"What are Ye's hobbies?"
"Uncle Xie, I usually stay at home and don't seem to have any hobbies."
“Dad, Xiaoxi likes to sleep in class,” Xie Yujie suddenly interjected.
Xiao Xi: "..."
She stuck her foot out from under the table and kicked Xie Yujie: "You're all talk."
Dad Xie: "So what if Xiaoxi loves to sleep? She still gets good grades. I see you love to sleep too, so why haven't you gotten good grades?"
Xie Yujie: "Dad, what are you talking about? Didn't I get third place in the whole grade at the end of last semester? Of course, Xiaoxi was first. This semester has just started, and there haven't been any exams yet, so how can you say my grades are bad?"
Xiaoxi loves to sleep anyway.
This has killed the conversation.
The atmosphere was already awkward, and they kept bringing up Xiaoxi.
Xiao Xi suddenly glanced at Xie Yujie's uncle across the table, and Zhou Ye's lips twitched.
There was a hint of a smile in his eyes, as if he knew everything and that Xiaoxi loved to sleep.
This feeling made Xiaoxi a little uncomfortable.
Alright, it's just a meal anyway. I, Ye Xiaoxi, will do you the honor of having this one. I don't owe you any money, so why should I be timid?
Xiaoxi, who was usually quiet and reserved, smiled in a very fake way.
"Hey, stop talking about me all the time."
I'd heard Xie Yujie mention his father and uncle before. Uncle Xie, have you always stayed in Shanghai?
Mr. Xie was a little flattered.
"I'm not often in Shanghai. My job is to sell coal from Jiangxi Province to all parts of the country, and I also act as an agent for local specialties."
Xiao Jie's uncle is mainly in charge of coal mining.
"Uncle Wild, mining coal," Xiaoxi immediately pictured it in her mind, and it was so funny.
She feigned innocence.
"Oh, isn't that Uncle Ye amazing? I heard coal mining is really hard work. Not only do you have to dig out coal in the mine, but you also have to dig out local specialties like he shou wu (Polygonum multiflorum)?"
While Xiaoxi was talking, her hands didn't stop. Without her noticing, she forcibly tore off a petal from the pink rose in the vase on the table.
The petal fell onto the table, then drifted through the cracks in the plate, gradually approaching Zhou Ye.
Xiaoxi's mouth was full of nonsensical and rambling remarks.
"Uncle Ye, what tools do you use to dig coal? Do you even have a searchlight on your head so you don't break the he shou wu (Polygonum multiflorum)?"
As they spoke, the petals reached Zhou Ye. Xiao Xi wanted to find out who Zhou Ye was.
"Student Ye may be disappointed; there's no Polygonum multiflorum in the mine!"
As he spoke, Zhou Ye had already turned an empty cup upside down and covered the petals with it.
Xiaoxi immediately felt suffocated and oppressed, and she grabbed her clothes at her chest.
Seeing that Xiaoxi was uncomfortable, Zhou Ye quickly lifted the rim of the inverted cup a crack, and the pink petals immediately escaped through the gap.
Xiaoxi caught her breath immediately: Wait a minute, did he find out I was visiting him?
"Huh? He Shou Wu isn't in the mine? Did Uncle Ye forget his searchlight? You mean one of those searchlights that you can wear on your forehead?"
"Never mind that," Xiao Xi released her divine sense and swept it directly across Zhou Ye's face.
With a "pop," Xiaoxi suddenly received a sharp tap on the forehead, as if someone had flicked her with their finger, and it hurt quite a bit.
Zhou Ye's smile vanished as he looked away, the unreadable expression in his eyes quickly disappearing.
Xiaoxi didn't touch her forehead immediately. She endured it for a while before rubbing it a couple of times, but she didn't dare to rub it any longer.
At this moment, Xie Yujie, who was next to her, fell asleep again.
I can't eat this meal.
