Xiaoxi has a new job and feels refreshed.
With a new goal in life and the lightning rod in hand, I no longer have to both want to upgrade and fear upgrading.
Slaying demons and monsters was not something she could easily accomplish; it was as easy as playing a game for her.
She won't have to go to school often anymore, haha, Dad and her fourth brother won't be able to nag her anymore.
The New Year has passed in the blink of an eye, and the spring semester has begun.
I must keep my promise to take Bei Chen to school.
Xiao Xi called Bei Chen over and gave him another beating.
"Bei Chen, remember what I said. Your main purpose in coming to school is to work hard in the kitchen and learn things. Don't go around trying to get close to my teacher all the time."
You can't do anything right now, and my teacher doesn't think much of you either. Anyway, I've already let it go. You two can rekindle your relationship, but only if you prove yourself. You have to be strong yourself to succeed.
Bei Chen nodded repeatedly. He had now handed all his lifeline to Xiao Xi. If he angered Xiao Xi, she could send him away at any time.
Xiaoxi also saw that he had studied at the manor for the entire winter break and was now able to come out and interact with people.
Because of her fourth brother's connections, Bei Chen was arranged to work in the school cafeteria, and Xiao Xi didn't let anyone else know.
With great enthusiasm and the culinary skills he had learned at the manor, Bei Chen joined the small community of the kitchen.
He was hardworking and eager to learn; however, he soon discovered that the kitchen was not what he had imagined.
Beichen first did odd jobs in the kitchen, such as picking and washing vegetables.
He's quick; he finishes what others do in a whole morning by the time he gets to work, which puts some people to shame.
At this moment, Bei Chen finished his work and was taking out a fifth-grade math textbook to read.
Almost everyone in the kitchen is a relative or acquaintance.
The school principal's aunt, surnamed Huang, caught Bei Chen slacking off while reading and took a picture with her phone, then immediately informed the head chef.
The head chef walked over and said, "Who said you can read books at work?"
The other people in the kitchen, seeing that things were going wrong, immediately ran outside to bask in the sun, since it was still early to start cooking anyway.
"I've done what I was supposed to do," Bei Chen said, unconvinced.
The head chef was displeased that Bei Chen dared to argue with him. He glanced at the fifth-grade book Bei Chen was reading and burst into laughter.
"Didn't you go to school? Every cook in our cafeteria is a college graduate. Even Sister Huang only graduated from high school."
Bei Chen answered honestly, "Yes, I have never been to school, but that doesn't mean I can't learn from scratch!"
That Ms. Huang immediately felt a sense of superiority.
“We can’t just hire any mentally challenged person into our kitchen.”
I knew it! My friend's son had already agreed to work in the kitchen, how did it fall through? How did you even get in?
"Hahaha, he said he wants to learn from scratch."
The head chef had long disliked Bei Chen's good looks and tall stature of 1.86 meters; in short, he was jealous.
He was just a short, stocky man. If it weren't for his grandfather's connections as the school principal, he would never have been able to find this well-paying and easy job.
Basically, the school kitchen is busy after noon, and then there's not much to do in the afternoon.
But now, with such a handsome man hanging in front of him every day, isn't he being so overshadowed that he's practically smitten?
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He flew into a rage, walked over, grabbed Bei Chen's book, and threw it into the trash can.
"If you're not going to work properly, then get out!"
"Head chef, I have evidence on my phone that he was reading books. He's only on probation! Get him out of here right now!"
Sister Huang proudly waved her phone.
"Why should I leave? You have no right to do so!" Bei Chen was furious, his fists clenched. "Pick up the book for me."
Head Chef: "Are you ordering me around? You're such a moron who didn't even finish elementary school!"
Sister Huang: "That's right, let him get out today. Who would want someone like him? All looks and no substance, even his future wife will despise him!"
Bei Chen is a prince of the Divine Dragon Clan. Who would dare to show him any disrespect? Even if he doesn't have a grudge now, he still can't tolerate it.
Even his wife complained about him, and that's when he finally broke the camel's back.
"You're asking for it!"
With a roar, Bei Chen caused the bright morning sun to suddenly turn dark.
The head chef and Sister Huang were startled by Bei Chen's shout and stood there dumbfounded.
Xiaoxi was sleeping in the classroom when she suddenly sat up.
