Chapter 268 That's enough (1/2)

Wang Dani said goodbye to Xiaoxi and the others, waved her hand dismissively, and turned to leave resolutely.

She's gotten used to it over the past two years.

It was completely dark when she ran.

As soon as I arrived at the gate of her yard, I saw chickens flying and dogs barking in chaos.

Her mother was yelling again, and her father remained silent, just puffing on cheap cigarettes.

Wang Dani's three younger brothers were eating heartily with their bowls in hand, laughing gleefully as if it were none of their business.

Don't let the fact that the youngest brother is only four years old fool you; he's incredibly opportunistic and wicked at heart.

It was obvious that Wang Dani's family didn't wait for her to eat, and as is customary, they wouldn't leave her any food.

Li Mei spotted Wang Dani standing blankly at the door and her scolding grew even louder.

"You little whore, you've finally decided to come back? I thought you were going to die out there."

"Mom, I've finished all my chores for today. I've brought back the pig feed." Actually, I only got home an hour later than usual.

She came home late and didn't even get to eat at home. I don't know why her mother was angry.

"How dare you say that? Today you beat up the village chief's grandson, and they've come to our house to make a scene."

Wang Dani: Oh my, rabbit meat is so delicious, how could I have forgotten about it?

"They provoked me first. I worked hard to gather pig feed, and they tried to steal it from me. I can't just wait for them to come and beat me up, can I?"

Li Mei pointed at Wang Dani and yelled, "Fuck your mother, how dare you talk back to me?" She was trembling with anger.

Wang Dani asked curiously, "Mom, aren't you scolding yourself?"

With a "smack!", Wang Dani was hit.

She wasn't beaten by her mother, but by her father. "Are you some kind of two-faced person now?"

No one expected that Wang Sheng, who was squatting on the ground smoking, would suddenly explode.

Wang Dani was stunned.

Her mother usually beats and scolds her severely, but today even her usually taciturn father is making things difficult for her.

Enraged, Wang Sheng slapped her again, his hand moving quite quickly, leaving both of Wang Dani's faces swollen.

“Our family is already struggling, and now you’ve offended the village chief. He won’t call on me for any work in the future, and the whole family is waiting for me to support them.”

Wang Dani felt contempt.

What nonsense are you spouting? You're still supported by my mother, and I'm working my butt off to earn money. What have you done? Just provide sperm?

She touched her swollen face with both hands, looking very aggrieved.

"Mom and Dad, you don't even ask why you're blaming me!"

How am I supposed to go to school tomorrow looking like this?

Upon hearing the word "school," Li Mei immediately flew into a rage.

"Go to school for good. Starting tomorrow, you can't go anymore. I don't have money to pay your tuition. You might as well stay at home, work for your mother, and take care of your younger brother."

"Mom, you can't say that. I haven't asked you to pay a single penny since I started first grade. I've earned all my tuition myself."

Wang Dani is very capable. She can weave beautiful handicrafts out of bamboo, not to mention baskets and carrying baskets.

She often takes the things she makes to the county to sell herself. She found the channels herself, and an art teacher specifically buys her handicrafts.

The teacher then resold it to someone else; I heard it's intangible cultural heritage and very popular.

Wang Dani was pulled back to reality by her mother's vicious insults.

"You little whore, you think you're all grown up now? Shouldn't you hand over the money you earn to your family? You can't just stop going to school like that. You're a good-for-nothing, wasting that money."

What's the point of going to school? She's just a girl.

This topic has come full circle. For the past two years, the issue of girls not being allowed to go to school has been repeatedly brought up and criticized.

That's enough, really enough.

Wang Dani protested loudly, "Why can't I go to school with the money I earned myself? For the past two years, I haven't eaten or lived in your place, and I've paid your fees."
