Chapter 18 What’s wrong with my baby?
Shang Youqing was resting with his eyes closed.
Her porcelain-white cheek rested on her own forearm, and her other hand was casually resting on the edge of the bed, as if she was allowing him to hold her hand.
The hand that had been held by He Cong all night suddenly pulled away. The fingers, whose joints were pinched red, curled up and moved lazily, raising their head from their forearms.
Then, she opened her eyes tiredly, and her gaze met He Cong's, who was sitting on the bed and looking at her coldly.
"Miss Shang, do you have anything to say?"
Shang Youqing looked annoyed, as if he had just been woken up. He pressed his fingertips between his eyebrows and said, "Yes."
He Cong was about to ask questions when he glanced at her slightly red fingers that were resting on her forehead. Thinking back to when she just woke up and saw these fingers were clasped tightly under his metacarpal bones, it was not difficult to guess that he was the culprit who pinched these fingers so red.
After a moment of silence, He Cong slowly said, "What is it?"
"Promise me that you'll go find a doctor when you get home, okay?"
Shang Youqing ignored him after he finished speaking, stood up and walked out of the house.
The air in the valley after the rain is fresh, accompanied by bursts of melodious bird songs, making people feel relaxed and happy.
Shang Youqing looked up and, as expected, saw two helicopters slowly descending and approaching towards the middle of the mountain. Soon, the helicopters hovered over an open space behind the courtyard.
Yu Zhu, accompanied by his bodyguards and family doctor, came to the gate of the courtyard and knocked on the door.
Grandma had gotten up early and was busy in the kitchen. When she came out and saw the huge crowd, she was surprised. "Xiao Shang, are Mr. He's family here?"
“…It seems so.”
The old lady hurried over to open the gate. Yu Zhu saw Shang Youqing standing under the eaves and nodded to her and said hello. He learned from the old lady that He Cong was in the wooden house, so he went in with a group of people behind him.
After about ten minutes, the people in the house came out.
He Cong was back in his elegant suit and tie, his short black hair neatly combed. Apart from the paleness of his face that still showed some illness, his whole body seemed to be wrapped in a cold chill.
He walked out of the house and listened to his subordinates reporting to him about yesterday's developments.
Suddenly, he paused, looked around the courtyard, and turned to walk towards Granny Jin who was standing at the door. He asked in a slow tone, "Grandma, where is Shang Youqing?"
The old lady pointed towards the hillside with some concern, "Xiao Shang, she just left."
Yu Zhu was following behind He Cong and was stunned for a moment when he heard this. "The mountain road is blocked. How is Miss Shang going down the mountain alone?"
Grandma: "I said that too, but Xiao Shang insisted on leaving and I couldn't stop him..."
He Cong glanced to his side unhappily: "The person should not have gone far. Take people to look for him."
Yu Zhu responded and hurriedly took his bodyguards to chase in the direction Grandma Jin pointed.
The old lady was still looking worriedly in the direction Shang Youqing had just left, while telling He Cong what happened last night, "It rained so hard last night. If Xiao Shang hadn't helped me, the kitchen might have been flooded by now."
He continued, "In the middle of the night, I heard some noise in the yard, so I got up secretly to see what was happening. Xiao Shang was still in the kitchen making medicine for Mr. He so late. Xiao Shang must have not gotten a good night's sleep since he was busy until so late. Now he's saying he wants to go down the mountain so early. How can I feel at ease..."
On the other side, Shang Youqing had just climbed over the small hill and was about to use his spiritual power to propel himself down the mountain.
This vast mountain forest surrounded her on all sides, and the only road leading down the mountain was blocked by a landslide. If she really wanted to get out, it would take at least two or three days. She certainly wasn't stupid enough to walk down the mountain.
What's more, she came here in a hurry and even forgot to bring her cell phone, which she put in the baby's schoolbag. If she doesn't rush back soon, the baby will be worried about her.
But before she could unleash her spiritual power, Yu Zhu's voice called out from behind her, "Miss Shang?"
Shang Youqing took a deep breath, and turned around with a dead heart. She saw Yu Zhu frantically waving away the branches blocking his way and shouting at her, "Miss Shang!"
To prevent Yu Zhu from falling down the rugged slope above, Shang Youqing was silent for a moment, stepped on the side of the slope and jumped up, looking up and asked him: "What's wrong?"
Yu Zhu was stunned by her skillful movements and said, "Mr. He is worried about you going down the mountain alone, so he asked me to bring someone to find Miss Shang and take her back."
Shang Youqing looked behind him and discovered that Yu Zhu was followed by several bodyguards.
Of course she knew that Yu Zhu was just being polite, and after coming to his senses, He Cong avoided her.
Even if it was really He Cong who asked her to go back, it was definitely not because he was worried about her. At most, he needed her to cooperate in investigating the details of the cars that blocked the way and attempted to assassinate him on the mountain road yesterday.
Knowing that Yu Zhu and the others had only come to find her on He Cong's orders, Shang Youqing did not make things difficult for them. She had to give up the idea of going down the mountain alone and went back with Yu Zhu.
When she returned to the halfway point of the mountain, He Cong had obviously sent people to make proper arrangements for Grandma Jin's damaged yard. Shang Youqing went over to say goodbye to Grandma Jin again, and then went directly up the helicopter ramp with Tong Yuzhu.
He Cong was sitting in the spacious cockpit on the right side of the back row. The medical staff next to him had just performed emergency treatment on his back injury. When Shang Youqing came up, He Cong raised his fingers to fasten the buttons of his shirt again, staring at her with cold and sharp eyes.
"Ms. Shang, please take a seat."
Shang Youqing glanced at him, sat down in the right cockpit where he was assigned, and fastened his seat belt.
Soon, the helicopter slowly took off, and from the window one could see it slowly moving away from the mountainous area.
After a while, Yu Zhu came over at He Cong's beckoning to ask her about what happened on the mountain road yesterday. Shang Youqing didn't waste any time talking to him, "Do you have a pen and paper?"
Yu Zhu hurriedly took out a notebook and pen from his backpack and handed them to her.
Shang Youqing took it and put it on her lap. She wrote down all the details of the vehicle and personnel according to what the little thrush had told her yesterday.
"That's about it. I don't know anything else. Please just take me back to the station in the city."
Yu Zhu took the notebook written by Shang Youqing and was about to show it to their President He when He Cong suddenly spoke.
"I sleepwalked last night, didn't I?"
Yu Zhu coughed and consciously retreated to the rearmost cabin.
He Cong glanced at Shang Youqing's fingers gripping the pen, then added calmly, "When I woke up, I was holding your right hand very tightly. I observed the redness of your finger joints and deduced that I held your hand for at least three hours."
After a pause, He Cong raised his eyes again and fell on her face: "I know very well that this is not my intention, but Miss Shang should be able to see that I am in a sleepwalking state. Why didn't you break free from me?"
Shang Youqing: "... broke free."
"Then how could it be—"
Shang Youqing finished his words in a neutral tone, "After breaking free, Mr. He ran into the mountains and got caught in the rain."
“…”
He Cong was silenced and turned his head away indifferently. He stared out the porthole with his lips pursed, not saying a word. After a long moment, he said coldly, "Don't overthink it."
"Oh, I know. Mr. He was just sleepwalking and recognized the wrong person."
He Cong's eyebrows twitched. Just as he was about to say something, he turned around and saw Shang Youqing leaning over and waving to Yu Zhu behind him, "Yu Zhu, can you lend me your phone to make a call?"
"Yes, sure."
Facing the inexplicable low and cold air pressure near the cockpit, Yu Zhu handed over the phone tremblingly.
Shang Youqing was still unaware of what was happening. He took the phone and dialed his own number, which was quickly connected.
Shang Youqing held the phone, the corners of his lips unconsciously curved upwards, "Baby?"
He Cong, who was sitting on the left and flipping through the evidence documents, heard the two words with a soft ending. His slender fingers on the edge of the document paused and easily broke off the corner.
However, the next second, Shang Youqing's relaxed expression suddenly changed. She asked the person on the other end of the phone, "Speak slowly, what happened to my baby?"
