Shen Yicheng got into the driver's seat swiftly and started the car skillfully. He did not wait for the tow truck crew to go with him, but decided to go ahead alone.
Sitting in the car, Shen Yicheng took a deep breath, then took out his cell phone and dialed Huo Yan's number. As the beeping sounded, his mood became more and more nervous. Every moment of waiting for the other party to answer the call seemed to make time seem extremely long. Finally, a familiar voice came from the other end of the phone: "Hello?" Shen Yicheng's heart relaxed, and he said softly: "It's me, Shen Yicheng."
"I know." Huo Yan said softly, holding the phone. The sound was like a feather brushing against his ears, but before he could think, she asked, "How are you?"
His tone was full of worry and anxiety.
"I'm fine at the moment, no major problems. It's just that the car has a problem and it will take some time to repair. I'm not sure if it can be fixed yet."
Huo Yan looked at her colleague repairing the car and said uncertainly. She had a hunch that tonight might not go smoothly and the probability of repairing the car might be very low.
However, what she didn't expect was that he actually called to ask about her with concern.
"Don't worry, I'm driving there now and will be there soon." Although Shen Yicheng was a little concerned, she obviously had something to do but didn't bother him. She was obviously in the hotel but refused to ask for help. If he hadn't asked her a question, perhaps she would not have told him that her car broke down.
When he thought of this, he couldn't help but feel a little depressed. Was he really that bad? If he was so bad that she didn't even want to ask for his help, how much of a failure must he be? Although he was angry, he didn't dare to say it at the moment.
"The car should be repaired soon, otherwise why don't you come over?" Huo Yan said. She felt that this place was deserted and she didn't know if he would know the way here if he came alone.
"What are you talking about? The car broke down and it's probably impossible to repair it. If I don't go, how will you come back?" Shen Yicheng couldn't help but get angry. Is she so unwilling to pick her up herself?
"Wait a little longer, can you? I'll call a tow truck. Don't be afraid." Although he was a little annoyed by her refusal, it was dark, the road was long, and they were in a remote place, so he didn't dare to yell at her and could only comfort her.
"Yeah." The two chatted for a while. Huo Yan's phone ran out of battery and turned off automatically. Shen Yicheng ignored the road and accelerated a little. He was afraid that something unexpected would happen in this place. Although the people here are simple and honest, there are still some uncivilized and unruly people.
And even if we didn't worry about people, it was a dark and windy night, and we were in the mountains and the water was bad. Who knew we might encounter wild animals? That would be very dangerous.
Huo Yan looked at her blacked-out phone and couldn't help but feel a little regretful. If she had known earlier, she would have left some power. Now her phone was out of power. If something happened, she wouldn't be able to contact anyone.
"Sister Yan, I'm a little scared?" Another colleague grabbed her clothes in fear and trembled with fear.
"Don't be afraid." Huo Yan just comforted him and looked around.
Just a moment ago, she was completely immersed in her conversation, completely oblivious to the subtle changes in her surroundings. Now, looking around, she saw nothing but the faint glow of car lights in the distance. Everything else was shrouded in endless darkness, as if the entire world had fallen into a dead silence.
Neatly arranged rows of trees lined the road, standing like silent guardians. Their dense branches swayed gently in the night breeze, creating a subtle rustling sound that added a touch of eerie atmosphere to the still night. The scene was chilling and eerie.
When the wind blew, she couldn't help but shiver. Seeing that she was scared, her companions became even more frightened and grabbed her clothes tightly.
Huo Yan felt a chill down her spine, and she swallowed hard under a cold sweat.
She was extremely scared at this moment, but there was someone next to her who was even more scared than her and said even more terrifying words.
"Sister Yan, tell me, will it be like what they show on TV, with a bunch of bandits rushing out with knives at our necks? If that happens, we'll be like fish at their mercy, with no one to cry out for help."
Huo Yan thought about it for a while, but found that she couldn't think about it. The more she thought about it, the more scared she became. She said in a trembling voice, "Don't talk nonsense. Don't scare yourself. There won't be any bad guys. Besides, there are three of us."
"That's not necessarily true. Brother Liu is the only man here, and we two girls can't beat him. We're in the middle of nowhere, so we probably can't escape." She continued.
"Stop talking and think of something good."
"Even if we're lucky and don't run into any bad guys, there are mountains everywhere here. If a wolf or a tiger comes, it would be even more terrifying."
Brother Liu was concentrating on repairing the car, but when he heard the two talking about something horrible, he couldn't help but sigh, stopped what he was doing, and shouted at them, "You two, stop mumbling about those things and come over here to help. Otherwise, you won't be able to go back until dawn."
When the two heard him calling for help, they came over. When the three of them gathered together, they suddenly became braver and not so scared. It was true that there is courage in numbers.
Several people stood around looking at it for a long time. Brother Liu put his hands on his hips and said, "It's broken. This is a bit troublesome. I don't think this car will be repaired for a while."
"What should we do? We can't stay here all night." A colleague complained.
Huo Yan was just about to say that there was no need to stay all night, as someone would be here soon.
Unexpectedly, before she could say anything, the two men's faces changed drastically. Before she could react, Brother Liu pulled her to hide beside the car.
"Don't move! There's a noise, like a car is coming in this desolate wilderness. Be careful! If you run into any bad guys, remember to run. Don't worry, just run. Here, here are some sticks. Take them and protect yourselves." Brother Liu said, and he picked up two more sticks from the ground for them to use as self-defense. The two were so frightened that they didn't dare to say a word. They watched the car in front of them approach as if it were a formidable enemy, then slowly stopped.
"We won't die here, will we?" the colleague said fearfully.
"Don't worry, I'm here, nothing will happen to you." Brother Liu comforted.
Their palms were almost sweating with fear, and they stared intently at the person who came. If the person was fierce, they would immediately take action.
"Huo Yan."
Shen Yicheng saw a car parked here from a distance, and guessed that they must be here, so he stopped the car without thinking and called them.
When they heard the familiar voice, they breathed a sigh of relief, and several of them immediately collapsed to the ground, the sticks groaning, and then Shen Yicheng walked over vigilantly.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw it was the three of them.
