Chapter 22
Xia Weining was in a very low mood during the second half of the summer vacation. This state continued until school started. When he saw Xia Li at the school gate, he was about to call for help when he saw Xia Li running to the side. His hands were half hanging down in vain, and his heart was full of bitterness.
After a moment, he suddenly laughed at himself.
Is it really necessary to separate to this extent?
After she put away her extra emotions, she walked into the office and cleaned up her desk. Tanya came in and placed a few bags of local specialties on her desk. "I brought them back from my travels."
"Thanks."
"You're welcome." Tanya flicked her hair casually. "I know I'm very charming, so please don't fall in love with me."
Xia Weining burst out laughing, and her depressed mood was relieved a lot.
"Thanks."
This time her tone was completely different. Tan Ya was stunned for a moment and nodded to accept her thanks.
Xia Weining sneaked up to Tanya and asked, "Why are you so energetic every day?"
"Because I love life, how about you?"
Xia Weining was shocked. Does she love life?
She doesn't know.
Whether she is now or many years later, she is the same, living a routine life every day. It is dull but not boring, happy in the ordinary but not ecstatic, without any special abilities, and most importantly, without the ambition to rush forward regardless of everything. Naturally, she lacks some vigorous energy and is prone to muddling through. To put it nicely, she has high tolerance, but to put it bluntly, she is mediocre and goes with the flow.
She didn't know whether she loved life like this.
"Teacher Xia."
Suddenly a voice interrupted her reverie.
She looked over, her expression suddenly becoming delighted. "Xia Li?" She walked over quickly. "What do you want to talk to me about?"
"Mom asked me to bring you some homemade food."
"Auntie asked you to bring it to me?"
"Um."
Xia Weining was a little confused, "Aren't they very angry with me?"
"No," Xia Li said, her lips pursed. After some thought, she said, "I heard my parents' conversation when I got home that day."
"What did they say?" Xia Weining couldn't wait to know.
"My parents aren't angry, but they feel embarrassed."
"What's the problem?"
“It’s hard to repay a favor.”
Xia Weining was stunned for a moment, and was very shocked. Later, she remembered to explain, "But I don't need to pay it back."
"That's what we say, but we will always remember your kindness in our hearts and always think about how to repay you."
"Okay, I understand. You go back to class first." Xia Weining touched Xia Li's head, "Thank you for the good medicine you brought me."
"Are you sick?"
"No, no, go back to class."
Just a few words cured Xia Weining's depressed mood for more than half a month. Her mood suddenly became brighter, and she walked happily and skipped, even humming a song.
Tanya passed by her and then came back to look her up and down in surprise. "I was just going to class. Why do you seem like a different person?"
"No."
"I'm not blind. I looked listless just now, but now I'm as energetic as a calf."
Xia Weining smiled and patted her belly. "Thanks to the food you sent me, I'm happy after eating it."
"Come on, everyone has secrets. If you don't tell me, I won't ask. But if you have any troubles, you can come to me to relieve your boredom."
"Thank you, Team Leader Tan."
The two smiled at each other.
After resolving her emotional issues, Xia Weining worked even harder. At the same time, she did not forget to treat her grandmother's illness, but she just needed to find a better opportunity.
As soon as I walked into the office after class, I saw a group of teachers running out. Xia Weining followed them and asked, "What happened?"
Zhou Renting ran over and explained to her, "There are students by the river who are about to jump into the river."
"What?"
Xia Weining quickly reviewed her previous memories. It seemed that a student had indeed jumped into the river. She was a student at the time and was stopped by the teacher from going out of the school. She also heard about it from adults later. It was said that she was scolded for premature love.
The principal and Director Zhang hurried out, not forgetting to discipline the students who were watching the excitement behind them, "What are you looking at? Go back to your classes."
A girl was standing in the shallow water of the river, crying and looking for the person on the shore. Unfortunately, she didn't find the person she wanted to see, and her eyes were filled with disappointment.
When they saw that they were not students from their school, the principal and Director Zhang breathed a sigh of relief, relieved of the gravity on their bodies and breathed in and out.
"You still dare to seek death? Come up quickly and stop embarrassing yourself."
The girl's parents were blaming her on the shore, but the girl's expression had long since calmed down, leaving only a slight numbness.
The river bank was already filled with onlookers, pointing and talking loudly at the girl, and every word was like a sharp knife stabbing her.
"Everyone, step back, stop looking, and go home to eat."
The police were maintaining order. Sheng Huaizhou stood by the river and looked at the girl. "Can you give me your hand?"
"Uncle policeman, I'm sorry, I'm too tired and don't want to go back." The girl looked at the river and turned back to ask Sheng Huaizhou, "Can you tell me what time it is?"
"11:30."
"It's been over an hour." The girl gave a sad smile. "It's only about ten minutes away from his house."
Xia Weining understood that she was waiting for that boy.
"No one is worth you giving up your life so easily." Sheng Huaizhou stretched out his hand again, "Give me your hand, okay?"
"He's worth it." The girl said innocently, "He said he loved me."
"Then come up and ask him yourself."
"No, I can't go up there." The girl shook her head. "I can't."
In fact, she didn't dare. The facts were already clear. She was just deceiving herself. Once she went up, she would have to face the cruel truth.
Sheng Huaizhou moved towards her little by little, "Nothing is unsolvable. You are so young and have a bright future waiting for you."
"Don't come over here." The girl stopped him sternly, "If you come over here again, I'll jump down."
"Okay, I won't go over there. Don't get excited."
"Uncle, I'm sorry." The girl squatted on the ground and covered her face in pain. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Mom and Dad, I'm sorry, it's my fault."
"Child, come up quickly. Mom and Dad are wrong. It's not your fault. We are useless."
The girl suddenly turned around and smiled, "Goodbye, Mom and Dad."
She was saying her final farewell.
Seeing her intention, Sheng Huaizhou was about to step forward to stop her when a stern voice suddenly came from behind him, "Do you think death can solve everything?"
Everyone looked at Xia Weining in shock.
"Don't talk nonsense." The principal reminded sternly.
She ignored the principal's dissuasion and walked towards the river resolutely. Amid the girl's surprise and confusion, she slowly walked to Sheng Huaizhou's side.
The two looked at each other.
"Who are you? Why do you have the right to tell me what to do?"
Xia Weining smiled faintly, "I am a person who lives towards death."
Now not only the girl was surprised, but Sheng Huaizhou's eyes also showed a bit of scrutiny and doubt.
What kind of person is she?
Xia Weining smiled slowly and looked at the girl. "You are still young, that's why you take love so seriously. Look at the people around you who care about you, your parents, the police, and even strangers like us. Where is the person you like?"
The girl's shoulders trembled slightly, and her eyes were filled with tears.
Xia Weining continued to ask: "Is puppy love just yours?"
As soon as these words came out, Sheng Huaizhou's doubts continued to deepen. Why was she so sure that it was puppy love?
"He might have been delayed by something."
Xia Weining was speechless. "You know it very well in your heart. Stop deceiving yourself. An action is far more convincing than ten thousand words. His absence here speaks volumes."
"Yes, I am shameless and I deserve it. I was abandoned. Are you satisfied?" The girl was very emotional and questioned Xia Weining harshly.
"So you're committing suicide just for this person. Is it worth it?"
The girl smiled, a broken and bitter smile, "It's not worth it, so what can I do? My life is over."
"You're only a teenager, your life has just begun, how could it be over?"
The girl's eyes sparkled for a moment, then quickly dimmed. "But I can't go back. From now on, I'll live in rumors and gossip, with others looking down on me everywhere. I can't hold my head up any more. I might as well die."
"Which do you think is more terrifying, death or gossip?"
"Rumors. Death brings relief, but gossips are tortured day and night."
"You're not even afraid of death, but you're afraid of the hope of life?" Xia Weining chuckled. "Do you really think death will put an end to everything? Let me tell you, if you dare to jump into this river and die today, you'll become a topic of conversation for others, and even a negative example for educating your children. Look at that so-and-so who jumped into the river for premature love. Don't follow her example."
The girl was angry and shocked. She didn't expect Xia Weining to say that.
"Relationships are between two people. If you die, what about him? He'll go back to school, get into college, find a good job, meet other girls, get married, and have children. How much of a mark will you leave in his life?" Xia Weining's tone was filled with contempt. "You're betting your life on him, betting that he'll suffer because of your passing. In reality, he'll just be glad you're dead and won't disturb his happy life. If such an irresponsible person is worth your life, then your life is truly worthless."
She knew that these words were a bit cruel, especially to a little girl, but she had to say that she hoped the girl could survive, not only physically but also mentally.
The girl stared at her intently. "Why do you say that to me?"
"I have finished what I have to say. If you still want to commit suicide, please do so."
Xia Weining snorted coldly and turned away.
The girl was so angry that she wanted to chase Xia Weining to confront him, but as soon as she got ashore, she was taken aside by the police.
Xia Weining patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief. She was actually very scared in her heart. If something really happened to the girl, her parents would not let her go. Fortunately, the result was good.
A few days later, the security guard at the door came to her office and said, "Teacher Xia, someone is looking for you outside."
"Who is it?"
"Looks like a policeman."
Xia Weining understood what was going on and smiled at the security guard, "You go back first and ask him to wait. I'll be there after I finish correcting these assignments."
This wait lasted half an hour.
Sheng Huaizhou could guess that Xia Weining did it on purpose, but he was not in a hurry and just kept taking notes in his little notebook.
As soon as Xia Weining walked out of the school gate, she saw a man leaning against a car. Not to mention his long legs were really eye-catching.
"What do you want to talk to me about?"
Sheng Huaizhou put away his phone, looked up and nodded to the place next to him, "Don't stand in the middle of the road."
Xia Weining took a look and walked in the opposite direction. "What's the matter? Tell me."
"You did a good job on the girl jumping into the river."
"I know, you don't have to tell me."
Sheng Huaizhou: ...
"Her parents have already moved her to another place."
"That's good. The unfamiliar environment is more conducive to her life."
Sheng Huaizhou finally asked the question in his heart, "How did you know that she was in love early?"
"Uh..." Xia Weining almost choked, tilted her head and smiled, "Of course it was spread through the grapevine."
Sheng Huaizhou had no intention of letting her go. He stared at her and pressed on step by step. Xia Weining retreated little by little. When she had no way to retreat, she held him with her hand and said, "Stop, what are you going to do?"
"Who are you?"
Xia Weining didn't expect him to ask this question, and her expression hesitated for a moment, "I'm Xia Weining."
Of course, her subtle changes did not escape Sheng Huaizhou's eyes.
