Chapter 25

Chapter 25

Xia Weining went to class as usual. As usual, he checked the situation in the class first. He found several students sleeping on their desks, so he instructed the students around him, "Wake them up! They are still sleeping during class."

When she was halfway through the class, she found a girl still sleeping, so she walked over and knocked on the table, "Are you feeling unwell?"

The girl raised her head, her face pale and her forehead covered with sweat. She spoke weakly, "Teacher, I feel uncomfortable."

He fainted as soon as he finished speaking.

The students around them screamed in fear. Xia Weining glanced at them coldly and said, "Be quiet, class monitor, go get the principal."

She took out her cell phone and dialed 120.

Soon the principal and the director came over, gave the necessary first aid, and rushed the man to the ambulance.

The principal stayed behind to contact the parents, while Xia Weining and the homeroom teacher followed the ambulance to the hospital. The ambulance left the school street and merged onto Central Street, where traffic was heavy and traffic was slow. Xia Weining was extremely anxious.

"Why is it so congested?"

The driver responded: "This is an old street, narrow and crowded, so it's hard to walk on it."

She felt that this was not a solution. "How about I go down and evacuate the crowd?"

Before she could get off, a police car suddenly rushed out from the side, blaring sirens and leading the way. Now the road was much smoother and they quickly passed through the congested section.

She had only seen this kind of scene on the news before, but only after experiencing it in person did she realize how sacred it was. That voice seemed to have magical power, easily arousing her emotions, and she forced back the tears in her eyes.

The police car led the ambulance to the hospital quickly.

Sheng Huaizhou got out of the car, the ambulance door was opened, and Xia Weining got out. At this moment, her clothes were disheveled, her hair was messy, and her eyes were full of worry. Neither of them expected the other to be there, and they were somewhat surprised.

The situation at the scene was extremely critical. The patient was pushed into the emergency room and Xia Weining followed behind in disappointment.

For some unknown reason, Sheng Huaizhou actually stayed. He wanted to see how serious the situation was, or whether he needed help.

"Have a drink of water."

Seeing the water suddenly appear in front of her, Xia Weining looked up suddenly, smiled faintly at him, and took the water.

Sheng Huaizhou was a little dazed. It seemed like this was the first time that the two of them had gotten along so peacefully, and it was the first time that Xia Weining had smiled at him like this. But he subconsciously didn't think this was a good thing. She was too weak at the moment, which reminded people of her when they usually quarreled. She was full of thorns but lush enough and full of vitality. She was nothing like now, lifeless, as if someone had pulled out the roots.

Realizing what he was thinking, Sheng Huaizhou wondered if he was a masochist. The more he thought about it, the more something seemed wrong, so he had to drink water continuously to cover up the abnormality.

"My daughter is already like this, and you still have the nerve to sit here."

Along with the accusations came a bottle of water, which hit Xia Weining hard. She couldn't dodge and was hit on the shoulder. She couldn't help but let out a muffled groan.

I quickly stood up and walked to the parents, smiling and apologizing, "Hello, parents, regarding..."

"What's good about it?" the parent interrupted her urgently. "The child is lying in there, how can it be good?"

"I want to explain Yu Shan's situation to you."

"What's there to explain? She got into trouble at school, and it's your responsibility."

Xia Weining was simply speechless, and her parents hardly gave her a chance to explain.

"You can't say that. Let's wait for the doctor to check it out first."

"If you can't say that, then what should I say?" The parent directly pulled her to the middle and said, "How about you go in and let my daughter come out."

The parent was very strong and pushed hard on her shoulders, forcing her to step back step by step.

Xia Weining asked for help from the head teacher who was standing nearby. The teacher spread his hands helplessly and said that he could do nothing about it. However, he still decided to come out and persuade the parents.

"Hello, I'm Yu Shan's homeroom teacher. I need to explain something to you."

"Whatever you say, there's nothing to say."

The parents did not buy his words and continued to direct their criticism at Xia Weining.

"I'm not saying you teachers are all heartless. You're the fastest to collect fees and run away. When something goes wrong, no one takes responsibility and just walks away."

Xia Weining accepted all the accusations and insults with an expressionless face. She didn't think she was a good-tempered person, but as a teacher, she understood the parents' feelings and didn't want to make things out of hand or difficult to handle, so she gritted her teeth and endured it.

Sheng Huaizhou just looked at her straight, with lowered eyebrows and submissive eyes, gentle and easy to bully, allowing himself to be beaten and scolded without fighting back or talking back. He couldn't help but sneer in his heart, is this still the Xia Weining who was aggressive in front of him?

At first he watched out of curiosity, but gradually he felt something was wrong and inexplicably felt distressed that she just let others beat and scold her.

Seeing that the parent was about to attack, he couldn't bear to watch any longer, so he stepped forward and pulled the parent away, "Stop."

Xia Weining glanced at him indifferently without saying anything.

"Comrade police officer, what are you doing?" The parents saw that his arrogance had subsided a lot.

"You beat and scolded others in front of the police?"

"She caused my daughter to faint, so what if I said a few words to her?"

Xia Weining shrugged off these words, but still had to explain herself, "It wasn't me who caused your daughter to faint. I was teaching normally, and when she felt unwell, I called 120 and brought her here."

"You're talking nonsense..."

The parent wanted to say something, but was forced back by Sheng Huaizhou's sharp gaze and sat aside angrily.

Xia Weining found it funny to see them glaring at her.

The doctor came out and the parents rushed over to him, "Doctor, how is my child?"

"Hypoglycemia, it's fine now."

Xia Weining's tense body finally relaxed, her lips slightly raised, fortunately nothing happened.

She was no stranger to hypoglycemia. She had felt dizzy and spinning after working overtime at night before. She couldn't walk at all and even felt that she would die in the next second. She squatted on the ground holding a pillar and rested for a while. Unexpectedly, Yu Shan's condition was more serious this time.

Director Zhang came to visit on behalf of the school. The doctor told the cause of the illness and the parents didn't say anything else. The matter was resolved smoothly and in a very friendly atmosphere.

As for what Xia Weining had suffered, no one took it to heart.

In the evening, Xia Weining washed up and knocked on the door of the next room.

Sheng Huaizhou came out of the house and asked, "What's the matter?"

"I was at the hospital this morning. Thank you."

Her calm and sincere thanks made him feel a little embarrassed. He scratched his head and smiled, "You're welcome. It's my duty."

Xia Weining nodded, and was about to leave when he stopped her.

"Why didn't you fight back or say anything back when you were hit or cursed?"

Xia Weining turned around, speaking calmly as if she were talking about someone else's business. "They're worried about their children and need an outlet."

"So you just let them vent their anger on you?" Sheng Huaizhou was puzzled.

"It's not that I let them vent their anger, it's that they only chose me." Xia Weining continued, "There were only three of us at the scene. Your uniform meant they wouldn't look for you, and they had no reason to look for you, because you were there to save people. No normal person would bother you."

Xia Weining smiled bitterly and said, "The homeroom teacher is male, so he's not easy to bully. But I'm different. I'm a female teacher, a witness at the scene. In the parents' minds, I'm the murderer, the one who harmed them, so I'm the best person for them to vent their anger on."

"You—" Sheng Huaizhou sighed, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. This kind of thing happens all the time. It's human nature to bully the weak and fear the strong."

"You're quite open-minded."

"There's no way around being open-minded, that's life."

She said it lightly, and Sheng Huaizhou knew that she couldn't help but mind it, but he was the one who was taught a lesson at that moment.

Because of his work, he has never seen anyone disrespectful to him, and no one would choose him as a target for bullying. But Xia Weining is different. She is often the one who is pushed out to take the blame.

Back at school, classes resumed as usual. Knowing everyone was worried about Yu Shan's condition, she took the initiative to say, "Yu Shan, you'll be fine after a few days of rest. Your health is your top priority. If you feel unwell, please tell your teacher directly, okay?"

Only after receiving a response did she continue her lecture.

When the midterm results came out, several students performed very well. Xia Weining fulfilled his promise and bought them KFC.

These students' families are not well off. They were admitted to the county town through exams in the lower towns. They rarely eat KFC and other places.

Xia Weining was busy with classes, so he handed the matter over to Xia Weiguo, who bought the book and put it in the bookstore. After school, Xia Lishengxuan took his friends to pick it up.

They decided to give these students a surprise. When it was time for the evening class meeting, Xia Weining first called the students who were being commended and had birthdays to her office. The classroom was being decorated in full swing.

Calculating the time, Xia Weining led them back to the classroom. The lights in other classes were bright, but theirs was pitch black. Several students were puzzled and gathered around her.

"Teacher Xia, what happened to our class?"

"Nothing, just push the door open and go in."

As soon as they opened the door, the lights in the classroom suddenly lit up, and soon someone pushed them to the podium and put birthday hats on them.

Several students were frightened by this sudden surprise and looked at Xia Weining anxiously.

She slowly stepped onto the podium, put her arm around their shoulders and looked down at the audience. "Classmates, who should we thank for having so many delicious meals today?"

"them."

"So what are we going to say?"

"Thanks."

The students on the stage were very moved and their bodies were trembling slightly. Few people organized grand ceremonies for them, so they were flattered by this treatment.

Xia Weining continued, "Today we are here to celebrate the progress of these students. It is also their birthday. How about we sing a birthday song for them?"

"good!"

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..."

The birthday song was sung in unison from the audience.

Xia Weining hurriedly reminded them, "Make a wish quickly and then blow out the candles."

A simple yet ceremonial birthday party was completed.

The next day, Xia Weining received a letter which read:

[Teacher Xia, thank you! It was my first time eating cake, and it was so sweet. I never knew KFC tasted like this, it was delicious. Thank you for the surprise!]

Xia Weining smiled as she looked at the words on the letter. She had eaten KFC for the first time when she was in college. Some people wouldn't believe it, but before college she didn't even know KFC existed. She was very isolated from information.

She came from the countryside and moved to the city step by step through education; she was rooted in the countryside but grew up in the prosperity of the city.

I have experienced the gap between rural and urban areas, felt the collision of poverty and wealth, and witnessed the crushing of development over tradition.

Despite this, she only experienced a brief period of confusion and anxiety, and she remained true to her original aspirations and remained true to herself. She finally realized that this in itself was a remarkable thing.

So, she whispered to herself in her heart: "Xia Weining, you are better than you think!"
