Chapter 11 Buying Fish
There are usually few people coming to the cowshed. Every day, the cows are led by the people in the cowshed to the team headquarters, and they go to pick them up after use. The same is true when herding cattle. The cows are just driven to the bottom of the slope and handed over to the cowherds.
They did not work with the villagers. The team leader personally supervised them. When the team leader was busy, no one would come to see how much work they had done.
Li Dequan is different from other team leaders. He doesn't like to torture anyone, especially after receiving gifts. He will turn a blind eye and just let them work normally and do their best to reclaim as much wasteland as possible.
Reclaiming wasteland is much harder than farming. Moving stones and digging up trees are exhausting even for strong laborers.
However, with Li Dequan's help, things became much easier.
Zhao Yi had just shoveled the manure and was carrying it not far from the cowshed when Su Hong caught up with him.
"This is for you. Don't tell anyone else that I came to the bullpen."
Su Hong handed Zhao Yi two candies and said.
"Um."
Zhao Yi nodded and took the candy.
These people seem to be suffering in Wangou, but they will leave Wangou Village safely and return to their jobs after a few years. Zhao Yi doesn't want to provoke enemies for no reason.
Su Hong looks like a naive girl with no scheming, but she dares to come here alone, and the person behind her is not someone that people like Zhao Yi can afford to provoke.
If anyone were to trip me up in any way, Zhao Yi would be in big trouble. This was not something I could get involved in.
Especially with a captain like Li Dequan who would do practical things immediately after receiving gifts, Zhao Yi did not have as much money as Su Hong to buy him gifts.
When Zhao Yi returned to the cowshed to pick up manure for the second time, Su Hong was no longer there.
Zhao Yi ran seven or eight times a day.
As soon as they got home, they saw pastries on the table.
"Why didn't you take it with you when Dad left?"
Zhao Yi looked at Zhang Jing puzzledly and asked.
"I don't know either. I'll buy some for them next time I have a chance."
Zhao Yi boiled some water and started to wash up. He smelled bad from carrying manure all day.
I had just finished washing up and came to the river to collect the fish basket when I saw Su Hong standing not far away. After seeing Zhao Yi, she walked over.
"Comrade Zhao Yi, right?"
Su Hong looked at Zhao Yi and smiled.
"Hello, Su Zhiqing."
Zhao Yi nodded.
The two chatted briefly, and Su Hong proposed to buy fish from Zhao Yi at the market price.
"How can I do that? Just give me a little bit based on your opinion. We all live in the same village."
Zhao Yi waved his hands quickly.
"You have to pay for them no matter where you buy them. They are so lacking in nutrition. I will come here to buy one every day from now on. I'll leave this to you."
Su Hong said as she handed Zhao Yi three dollars.
"This is a purchase of more than 10 kilograms. A fish usually weighs only 2 or 3 kilograms. 50 cents is enough."
"The rest is a deposit."
Su Hong did not reach out to take the money that Zhao Yi handed over.
He looked at the fish basket that Zhao Yi had put away, picked out the biggest one, and went to the cowshed with a smile. The biggest one was only about three pounds.
"Whoever says this girl is stupid, I think he is the stupid one."
Zhao Yi muttered softly as he watched Su Hong leave.
Using benefits to hold herself back, Zhao Yi would definitely not go around telling everyone about Su Hong going to the cowshed. Even if others told him, Zhao Yi would help cover it up. His income of a few cents a day was almost the same as that of a temporary worker in the factory.
When you use interests to involve others, you can also get the benefits you want. Is this girl stupid?
Zhao Yi shook his head and walked back home with the remaining two fish.
Zhang Jing ran forward with a smile, took the fish and walked into the kitchen. Zhao Yi quickly followed and handed the three dollars he had just received to Zhang Jing.
"Boss, where did you get three dollars?"
Zhang Jing was a little confused when she saw the three yuan handed over by Zhao Yi. She had not been to the city or the county, but had worked in the village for a day. Could it be that she had just picked it up outside?
"Su Zhiqing came to buy fish for me. I said I didn't need that much, and she said the rest should be kept here. I should buy one every day, and each one costs at least fifty cents."
Zhao Yi said with a smile.
"Is Su Zhiqing's family so rich?"
Zhang Jing was even more confused.
A fish that costs fifty cents a day would cost fifteen dollars a month. What family would be willing to spend money like that? They would only buy one occasionally to satisfy their hunger.
"This matter is not our business, so let's not tell anyone about it."
After saying this, Zhao Yi walked out of the kitchen.
Zhang Jing understood what Zhao Yi meant. Since business was not allowed now, such things naturally could not be told to others. As for whether Su Zhiqing's family had money or not, it was none of their business.
"Xiao Jing, the roof needs to be renovated. Otherwise, it will rain heavily outside and lightly inside. There is not much work for the team tomorrow. I will go to the mountains and get some game. You can ask Dad and the others to come over to help and have a good meal at the same time."
After taking a bite of the fish, Zhao Yi looked at Zhang Jing and said.
"Yeah, okay."
Zhang Jing nodded.
night.
Cowshed.
Several people gathered around the pot, looking at the fish soup in the pot with happy smiles on their faces. They didn't know how long it had been since they tasted meat.
Although Su Hong had some meat tickets and other things, most of them were used to hang out with the team leader and his men.
Now this girl is just an idle person in the village. She occasionally attends classes at night and usually does not get any work points.
dawn.
Zhao Yi rushed into the mountains carrying a backpack. Today he not only had to go down the mountain to catch game, but also had to cut bamboo to bring home.
If you can't afford tiles, you can break a bamboo into two pieces and repair them and use them as tiles. Although it is not as good as tiles, it still provides an extra layer of protection and the rain will not easily leak into the house in the future.
"Look at what Zhao Yi is doing after cutting so many bamboos and bringing them home?"
"Maybe he wants to inherit his grandfather's craft."
"That skill is so easy to learn, why didn't his father learn it?"
Everyone was talking at once, but Zhao Yi didn't take it seriously at all. Of course Zhao Yi knew a little bit about his grandfather's craftsmanship, but it was not as sophisticated as the old man's.
You can only make a few cents a day by making a dustpan, a brush handle, or a broom and taking them to the market in the commune. It is better to go into the mountains and trap a pheasant, where you can earn one dollar.
And you don't have to be so tired and keep working all day long.
When Zhao Yi got home, he started to break the spotted bamboo into two halves. After carrying it back, he went into the mountains to cut bamboo, and also checked whether there was any wild game caught in the trap.
When Zhao Yi returned home the second time carrying the bamboo, Zhang Jing, Zhang Fusheng, and two uncles had already arrived at their homes and started to pull down the straw on the roof.
"Brother-in-law, what are you doing? You cut so many bamboos and brought them back."
Zhang Jing's elder brother Zhang Jun was a little puzzled when he saw Zhao Yi carrying three bamboos back and seeing some broken bamboos in the yard.
"My boss said that the spotted bamboo can be used as tiles. Spread a new layer of straw on top, and then spread the spotted bamboo on both sides to keep out the rain."
Zhang Jing said with some pride.
Zhang Fusheng glanced at Zhao Yi curiously. He didn't expect that his brother-in-law was so smart.
Everyone did not waste time and quickly replaced the straw.
