Chapter 17 Raisins

Chapter 17 Raisins

Zhao Yi carried raisins on his back and picked up the remaining fish from last night in a wooden bucket and headed towards the city.

There were not many raisins, probably only about ten pounds, and they were much smaller than the raisins commonly seen in later generations.

It may not be possible to reach the city by road in a day and a night, but it can be reached in five or six hours by crossing the mountains.

There are far more workers in the city than in the county, so their spending power is naturally stronger than that in the county.

It was almost noon when Zhao Yi rushed to the city's supply and marketing cooperative.

"Hello comrade, do you accept raisins like this?"

Zhao Yi put down the backpack, grabbed a handful and handed it to the salesperson at the supply and marketing cooperative.

Raisins are not common nowadays, and in many places they have not even been heard of. Road transportation is not well developed nowadays, and many of the fruits we eat are local fruits.

“Is this delicious?”

The salesperson didn't say whether to accept it or not. Instead, she was a little curious because she had never seen the thing in front of her before.

"Comrade, you can try it. It's free."

Zhao Yi said with a smile.

The salesperson nodded, took the raisins handed over by Zhao Yi and threw one into his mouth. After chewing it lightly, his brows immediately relaxed. He quickly shared the raisins in his hand with the salespeople at other counters to taste together.

Everyone ate one raisin after another, and soon all the raisins in their hands were eaten up, as if they had not eaten enough, just like the feeling of eating melon seeds and could not stop.

There are very few fruit snacks nowadays, and things like this are almost never seen on the market.

"Comrade, we have never received this before, and we don't know the price. So I'll ask our director to come and take a look. Please give me a few and I'll bring them to her to try."

The salesperson came up to Zhao Yi and said somewhat embarrassedly.

Zhao Yi nodded, then grabbed another handful and handed it to the salesperson.

Seeing Zhao Yi grab another handful, more than before, the salesperson felt very happy and immediately walked into the director's office.

Soon, a middle-aged woman with glasses, short hair and a Zhongshan suit came out.

He came up to Zhao Yi and greeted him with a smile.

"What's this comrade's name?"

"My name is Zhao Yi. I'm from a nearby village. It's the off-season now, so I sent my own stuff over to try."

Zhao Yi said with a smile.

"Comrade Zhao, to be honest, this thing is really good. Unfortunately, we have never received anything like it, so we don't know the exact price. If we charge too high, our supply and marketing cooperative can't afford the loss. If we charge too low, you will be the one who suffers."

The director did not hide anything and directly expressed his concerns. This thing is delicious and it looks like it can be stored for quite a while.

I will buy some once I have tasted it. It is good for me to eat or give as a gift.

"It's just an ordinary fruit, made with traditional methods, and I charge the same price as ordinary fruit in the market."

Zhao Yi thought for a moment and said.

"Then I'll charge you the price of an apple. What do you think, comrade?"

The director was delighted to hear this, because the price of fruit is not expensive, only two or three cents per pound.

"OK."

Zhao Yi nodded. He originally thought that he couldn't sell it, but now that he could sell it, of course he was happy. It didn't cost him anything, it was just time. If the villagers knew that this thing could be sold for money, I don't know how many people would flock to the mountains to pick it.

Even if it's only one cent per pound, there are still many people trying their best to get it.

When everyone in the supply and marketing cooperative heard this, they were immediately very happy. They could definitely afford such a price.

A salesperson immediately ran over to get a scale, found a clean bag, and poured the raisins into it, without letting Zhao Yi intervene in the whole process.

"Comrade, look, there are twelve catties in total, and they cost twenty cents a catty, which makes a total of two dollars and four cents."

The salesperson said with a smile.

"OK."

Zhao Yi nodded. He made a little less this time. If he made more, he could sell it for three or four yuan. He could ship the goods in seven days on average, and earn more than ten yuan a month. It was much easier than working in the forest farm.

"By the way, comrade, I have another kind of wine made from this kind of fruit. It's not entirely accurate to call it wine. It tastes almost the same as the small champagne sold by your supply and marketing cooperative. It's also sweet. I wonder if you can accept it."

Zhao Yi asked with a smile, thinking of the wine brewed at home.

"I can't give you a definite answer right now. I can only give you an answer after you give it to me and I taste it."

The director did not refuse. If there were such drinks, it would be an extra flavor for the New Year and other festivals. It just didn't look as high-end as the bottled drinks, but the family lived in a frugal way.

"Comrade, are you taking this fish to visit relatives?"

The director looked at the wooden barrel that Zhao Yi brought and found that there were actually two fish, and they looked to weigh nearly five kilograms each.

"No, I also sent it to ask the supply and marketing cooperative if they would accept it."

Zhao Yi lied and told others that he sent fish to the supply and marketing cooperative. Who would believe it? Not all of them are sent to the seafood market.

"We basically don't accept this stuff, but if you send one or two occasionally we will still accept it."

The director said with a smile.

Zhao Yi understood what she meant by that and sent some over occasionally for internal consumption within the supply and marketing cooperative.

Supply and marketing cooperatives would collect agricultural products from rural areas, such as eggs. Almost every supply and marketing cooperative would collect these things. It is also normal to collect some other things to see if they can expand their business. If they cannot be sold, they will naturally be consumed internally, and no public funds will be lost.

Just like the raisins today, there are not enough for these four or five salesmen plus their own share. The raisins collected today cannot even be put on the shelves.

You don't need a ticket to buy fish from Zhao Yi. After you buy the fish, they will be slaughtered immediately after get off work. Each of you can get two kilograms and take them home to enjoy. You don't have to go to the seafood market to buy fish anymore.

You can wait until Zhao Yi comes next time to tell him how much you want to charge.

Zhao Yi didn't expect it to be so smooth and he earned another three dollars.

After packing the money from today’s sales, he sat at the door of the supply and marketing cooperative. After eating his dry food, he headed back to the village.

When Zhao Yi returned home, it was already dark.

"How's the boss doing?"

After Zhang Jing brought the food to the main room, she looked at Zhao Yi and asked.

"It's OK. I made a little over two yuan from the raisins. This job will be gone in a month at most. I want to go to my father-in-law's place and ask my uncles to help. In another month, these things will rot in the mountains.

This way they can also earn extra income. ”

Zhao Yi looked at Zhang Jing and said.

"Then I'll ask them to come over and learn tomorrow?"

Zhang Jing looked at Zhao Yi and asked.

"No, it's not like you don't know how to do it. You've seen all the steps. I have to go into the mountains to pick them tomorrow. You can go directly there early in the morning. I'll go take a look after I'm done in the afternoon. Tell them if there's anything wrong."

Zhao Yi waved his hand.

Instead of wasting a whole day coming here to learn, it would be better to go into the mountains and pick the fruits and wash them. Anyway, I have to go and pick Zhang Jing home in the afternoon and give her some pointers.
