Chapter 6 Looking for Someone
early morning.
The sun shines on the earth and the sound of birds singing can be heard outside the house.
Zhao Yi just got up and prepared to go to work.
"Boss."
Mother Li Daju's voice was heard from the door.
"Why."
Zhao Yi responded.
"Come here and I'll tell you something."
Li Daju's voice came from the door.
Zhao Yi got up, put on his clothes, and walked out.
He saw his mother Li Daju walking not far away, as if she had something to talk to him about, but she didn't want her wife Zhang Jing to hear it.
As soon as Zhao Yi approached, Li Daju handed him an egg. Zhao Yi was a little confused because the eggs at home were all to be sold for money. Except for the Dragon Boat Festival when each person could eat one boiled egg, normally they could only eat one on someone's birthday.
What is my mother doing today when it’s not a festival?
Zhao Yi shook his head.
"Mom, you should eat by yourself. I guess you haven't had a good meal these days."
Zhao Yi rejected Li Daju's kindness.
"Take it if it's given to you. Mom cooked an egg for you, but no one else has one."
Li Daju said with a smile.
Zhao Yi was a little confused when he saw that his mother suddenly seemed like a different person. He knew that normally his mother Li Daju would not care about him like this. He didn't have a job now, and he had never said that he would take money to support them in school. He didn't understand what Li Daju was planning to do.
However, Li Daju spoke softly and did not seem like she was going to cause trouble for him.
"Mom, if you have anything to say, just tell me. You should keep the eggs for yourself."
Zhao Yi did not take the eggs handed to him by his mother, but went straight to the point and spoke directly.
"You are always like this, how can your mother harm you? Hurry up and eat it. You must be exhausted during the double harvest. You just separated and there is no old hens to feed you, so you must have no eggs. Eat an egg to replenish your body."
Li Daju said with a smile.
Zhao Yi had no choice but to take the egg.
"Mom, let me ask you something. Is it because Zhang Jing can't stand my nagging about your division of the family?"
Li Daju looked at Zhao Yi and asked.
I wanted to see some clues from Zhao Yi's eyes.
"No, I just want to separate and live separately. It's not good to live under the same roof all the time. If you two quarrel one day, who will help me? It's better this way. There's no quarrel when we're not together."
Zhao Yi shook his head.
Zhang Jing is a submissive person. She listens to Zhao Yi on all matters, big or small, and would never take the initiative to bring up the matter of dividing the family.
Seeing that Zhao Yi's eyes did not avoid, Li Daju knew that Zhao Yi was not lying. It seemed that her son knew how to consider himself after getting married. He did not want to earn work points to support his younger brothers and sisters, and was afraid that others would take advantage of him.
"Well, you guys eat fish every day, so remember your father when you have too much."
After saying this, Li Daju walked back home. After knowing that it was Zhao Yi's idea to split the family, Li Daju couldn't explain why she felt a little happy in her heart. However, it was only a little. She was more concerned about the fact that those who wanted to go to school might not be able to do so in the future.
With just this little income, the family cannot afford to support three children to go to school at the same time. The issue of food rations for a single person is a big problem. If they don't work in the village, there will be no food rations, and they can only rely on the two of them to save money.
But it is still very difficult for two working people to support five mouths, and now it is impossible to expect the eldest brother and his wife to help.
If I say a few words to Zhang Jing, the eldest brother will not be able to stand it and want to split the family. If he takes food from their rations to feed other people in the future, there will be a big quarrel.
Zhao Yi just walked back into the house.
"Master, what does mother-in-law want from you?"
Zhang Jing asked curiously.
"Besides wanting to know who proposed to split up the family, they were craving for fish. I guess they smelled the fish we cooked tonight."
Zhao Yi said with a slight smile.
"So when we get some fish next time, should we send some to mother-in-law?"
Zhang Jing looked at Zhao Yi and asked.
"We'll talk about it later. My dad isn't home, so he won't be able to eat it if I send it to him. When he comes back and there are extra ones, I'll send one to them so they can have a taste."
Zhao Yi thought for a moment and said.
Hearing Zhao Yi say this, Zhang Jing didn't know what to say.
Zhao Yi and Zhang Jing rushed to the team headquarters after breakfast. Actually there was not much work to do in the fields now, so they just spent their days in the fields. Wangou Village had no shortage of water, so there was naturally no need to repair canals to support the construction. It was summer now and heavy rains could occur at any time, so it was not the right season to go to other communes for support.
The canals may flood at any time if there is heavy rain, and they are usually supported for a month or so at the end of autumn.
After working in the fields for a day, everyone prepared to go home in the evening.
"Female workers, go back first. Male workers, follow me into the mountains. The educated youth comrade who was herding cattle is missing."
Li Dequan came to the field, said something loudly, and then hurried into the mountains.
Zhao Yi had no choice but to follow everyone into the mountains to look for people.
"What's going on?"
Zhao Yi looked at the person next to him and asked.
"It was that educated youth named Su Hong. She dug herself into a ditch while digging the ground, and cut her legs while harvesting wheat. The team leader had no choice but to let her herd cattle and take care of the animals. Now the cattle have returned to the cowshed by themselves, but no one knows where she has gone.
The team leader from the Youth League compound came over to ask the villagers for help in finding someone, as it was about to get dark and it was dangerous in the mountains. ”
When Zhao Yi heard this, he immediately remembered who it was, but he had no contact with him in his previous life. This educated youth was quite famous in Wangou Village, and was known to be an unlucky guy.
After this incident, Li Dequan didn't dare let her herd cattle anymore. He probably had to transfer her to the pig farm to help.
He is the first person who can shovel pig manure into the pit himself.
From now on, you won’t have to work anymore. You just need to spend a few dollars every month to buy food rations, and help the commune run literacy classes to teach those who want to learn to read a few words.
Soon everyone found the educated youth Su Hong, whose eyes were red from crying.
"I thought the cattle had all run away and were lost. I didn't dare go back and could only look for them in the mountains."
Su Hong looked at Li Dequan and choked up.
"Those cows know the way by themselves. Why don't you go back to the village and ask what to do if something happens to you? Okay, go back and have a rest. I will arrange other work for you tomorrow."
Li Dequan was so angry that he blew his beard and glared, but he didn't know how to say anything harsh.
Seeing that Su Hong was found, everyone walked back to the village. Along the way, everyone was talking and laughing, all laughing at how silly this girl was.
Zhao Yi remembered that the girl's family was quite wealthy. She had been in the village for nearly six or seven years. Her family would send her packages and money every month, and she would also have the fare to go home every Chinese New Year.
But these things have nothing to do with Zhao Yi.
"Boss, have you found the educated youth comrade? There are many wolves in the mountains."
Zhang Jing looked at Zhao Yi and asked quickly, if we stay in the mountains for one night, there is a high possibility of an accident.
"Found it. It's hanging around the cattle slope."
Zhao Yi nodded.
