Chapter 304 Envy of Others

Just as Ma Yunfei was about to turn and leave, a middle-aged man with a slicked-back hairstyle walked over with an air of grandeur.

Xiao Liu greeted him with a bow and a scrape: "Hello, Manager Wang!"

Manager Wang nodded slightly, didn't even glance at Ma Yunfei, and went upstairs with his head held high.

Ma Yunfei asked, "Is he the manager of the sales department?"

Xiao Liu stuck out his tongue and answered in a low voice, "Yes, he is the head of our sales department."

Ma Yunfei asked, "Is Manager Wang's office also on the second floor?"

"No, the manager's office is on the third floor."

Ma Yunfei shrugged and returned to the large apartment on the second floor.

At this moment, General Belly was boasting with great enthusiasm: "Three new stocks are going public this month. I'm going to take a gamble and try to get my funds to exceed ten million so I can move to a four-person room. There are too many people here, and the air is terrible."

He frowned as he spoke, then cast a disdainful look at the old man and Ma Yunfei, as if they were the ones who had polluted the air.

Ma Yunfei thought to himself: What's so great about you? You have less capital than me.

Three new stocks did indeed go public this month, but only one performed well, while the other two only rose by a little over ten percent before trading sideways.

The outstanding new stock was the one Ma Yunfei wanted to gamble on. However, the performance of this new stock was very strange, and it was difficult for ordinary people to make money on it.

Fortunately, Ma Yunfei was a time traveler, and he was very familiar with the trajectory of this new stock.

Three days later, this bizarre new stock went public.

Early that morning, Ma Yunfei arrived at the VIP room an hour early, fully expecting to be the first to arrive. However, upon entering the room, he discovered that the other seven people were already sitting in front of their computers.

The old man whispered, "Little Ma, there are new stocks going public today. You could try your luck with a short-term trade and maybe make some money."

Ma Yunfei smiled and said with a double meaning, "Maybe I can make a lot of money."

The old man cautioned, "Little Ma, stock trading is no joke. It can easily lead to financial ruin and even death. It's best to be cautious, quick in and quick out, and focus on short-term gains. Don't be too greedy."

Ma Yunfei nodded and said gratefully, "Grandpa, thank you for reminding me."

The man with the potbelly stood up and paced back and forth in the room, stretching his arms and kicking his legs as if he were warming up before a competition.

Someone asked, "Boss, do you think this new stock is worth speculating on?"

Everyone called General Belly the boss because he was the biggest braggart in the room and always put on an arrogant and domineering air.

The general said confidently, "Last night, I studied it for most of the night. This new stock has a small market capitalization and a low issue price. I estimate that it will surge as soon as it is listed, and it will at least double once or twice. So I plan to buy it as soon as the market opens."

Ma Yunfei thought to himself: You shouldn't pretend to be smart. If you rush to buy shares as soon as the market opens, you'll be in big trouble.

Another person said, "Boss, if everyone rushes to buy, won't the price rise with the tide? You might end up holding the bag even if you manage to buy, because you'll be stuck with a high price."

The general with the potbelly said smugly, "Retail investors probably won't be able to get in, but we're big players! We can get on the track early. That's the advantage of being a big player, haha..."

The market opened, and everyone sat in front of their computers, nervously watching the screen.

The opening price of this new stock was double the issue price.

General Belly slammed his fist on the table and cursed, "Damn it, this is truly extraordinary. No matter how high the opening price is, I'm still going to snatch it."

After saying that, he started typing away on the keyboard, it seemed he was going all in.

The old man typed away on the keyboard for a while, then turned to Ma Yunfei and said, "I've put in half my position. You should put in some too. Maybe this stock has potential."

Ma Yunfei nodded, pretended to tap the keyboard, and acted as if he was also buying stocks. In reality, he just tapped the keyboard a few times without actually buying any stocks.

Ma Yunfei remembers clearly that the stock opened at twice the issue price, but then kept falling before 11 a.m., dropping by as much as 20%.

After 11 o'clock, it suddenly surged upwards, and after the market opened in the afternoon, it continued to surge upwards, reaching three times the issue price by the close of trading in the afternoon.

Half an hour after the market opened, the stock began to fall.

The general with the belly cursed angrily, "Damn it, how could it drop? Could it be that some big players are dumping their shares? No way, this price isn't high at all! Damn it, I'm losing a fortune..."

The old man muttered to himself, "This is terrible. I just wanted to do some short-term trading to make a little money for basic necessities, but I ended up losing over 100,000 yuan."

After the old man finished speaking, he asked, "Little Ma, you didn't buy any, did you?"

"Grandpa, I'm a bit timid, so I only bought a little bit."

"Xiao Ma, it's right to be cautious. I was a bit rash today and went in with half my capital. I didn't expect this stock to be such a weak one."

Around 11 o'clock, Ma Yunfei decisively invested all five million yuan and then crossed his legs.

As soon as 11 o'clock passed, the stock price suddenly surged.

General Belly shouted excitedly, "Haha... I thought I misjudged it, but it's gone up again. If it goes up a little more this afternoon, I'll sell my shares."

The old man stared intently at the screen, sweat beading on his forehead, muttering to himself, "Great, great, I've made my money back."

During lunch, none of the eight people spoke; the only sound was the crunching of their chewing.

After finishing their meal, everyone rested on the table, each silently praying: "I hope this stock will rise a little more this afternoon, so we can make some money."

As soon as the market opened in the afternoon, the stock price soared.
