Chapter 295 Sesame Spots

Ignoring everyone else, Feng Ye focused intently on walking along the shore, picking up trash as she went.

Suddenly, Ah-Can's voice rang in my ears: "Brother Ye, you're so unfair, you didn't even call me."

"I thought you'd been at the dock for a while, who knew you'd be so late today?"

Feng Ye looked up at him, then continued searching for the seafood that had been swept ashore by the waves.

Ah-chan scratched his head: "My mother didn't know we didn't go out to sea, so she didn't wake me up and I overslept."

He's not very old and is naturally quite sleepy, so it's impossible for him to wake up at such a precise time every day.

Every time he went out to sea at dawn, it was his mother who woke him up.

Feng Ye was aware of this.

Actually, he's pretty much the same; he rarely wakes up on his own.

Ah-Can then asked curiously, "What kind of things did you find?"

"It's nothing, just snails and shellfish."

"Let me see."

Ah Can snatched the snakeskin bag from Feng Ye's hand, opened the bag, and peered inside.

Upon seeing it, he was astonished: "Holy crap, what kind of snail is this? I've never seen one like it before! It's so big and beautiful!"

He took out the large conch shell and examined it closely.

Feng Ye said casually, "Phoenix tail conch."

"What? This is a conch shell?" Ah-Can's eyes widened. "Why does it look more like a peacock's tail from a book?"

Feng Ye smiled and said, "You mean it should be called a peacock shell, right? Do you think it sounds nice?"

"Hehe, it's definitely not as nice as the conch shell." Ah Can said with envy, "Brother Ye, you're so lucky! You found such a treasure."

"It's alright, keep looking, maybe you can find it too."

"Yes, let's hurry up and search while there aren't many people around."

Ah-Can threw the conch shell into the snakeskin bag and returned it to Feng Ye. Then he shook out a snakeskin bag and walked forward.

When the waves are high, catching seafood is purely a matter of luck; being at the forefront doesn't guarantee a good catch.

You might just walk over there and have a wave push some good stuff up on you.

For example, right now, right behind Ah-Can, a large blue crab is being swept ashore by the waves.

Feng Ye was quick-witted and nimble-fingered... no, he was quick-footed.

He stomped on the large blue crab, which weighed over two pounds, under his foot.

"Ah Can, look at this blue crab, isn't it big?"

He picked up the large blue crab and showed it off.

"Wow, it's so big, it must weigh over two pounds! How come I didn't see it?"

Ah-Can looked back and was filled with regret, as if he had missed out on hundreds of millions.

"It's not that you didn't see it, it was just washed ashore by the waves."

"You're so lucky... By the way, where's that dog poop? I'd like to step in it..."

"You're not destined for that; even if you step in dog poop, it's all for nothing."

"I don't believe it..."

The two chatted and laughed as they searched for various seafood items that had been brought ashore against their will.

As time passed, the tide began to recede, and more and more people gradually appeared on the beach.

Many of the women who had arrived early to wait for the tide to recede and then go beachcombing joined in as soon as they saw something to collect.

Feng Ye and A Can had already moved away from the beach and entered the rocky area.

Their haul was pretty good; the burlap sack was about a third full, but they didn't find anything valuable or rare.

"Ugh, there are too many people, it's not fun anymore."

Looking at the beach packed with people, Feng Ye shook his head. "Ah Can, let's go back and have breakfast first. Then we'll go out to sea and haul in a couple of nets."

"Brother Ye, are you out of your mind? Everyone's trying to avoid a typhoon, and you still want to go out to sea at this time?"

"The typhoon hasn't arrived yet, and besides, there are plenty of fishing boats out hauling in their nets, so why can't we go out too?"

"You know they're going out to collect their nets, but we don't have any nets to collect, so why risk going out?"

"There's a lot of cargo during typhoons! The open sea is definitely churning a lot, and a lot of cargo that's usually in the deep sea might be swept to the nearshore. If you're lucky, you can catch a lot of good stuff."

Ah-Can was also tempted: "Then let's go out and give it a try. If the waves are too big, we'll come back quickly."

"Okay, it's settled then. Let's go back and have dinner now."

As Feng Ye spoke, he turned and walked towards the shore.

Because the tide was already receding, they all followed the tide and walked quite a distance outwards.

As he walked, he suddenly felt something was wrong; it seemed that Ah-Can hadn't followed.

Looking back, I saw Ah-Can standing in the water, holding a fish covered in black spots, with a silly grin on his face.

The fish's tail was still wriggling and struggling, trying to escape Ah-Can's clutches.

"Sesame spots?"

Feng Ye was surprised and quickly returned.

When he got closer, he realized it really was a sesame seed spot.

Its body is dark brown, spindle-shaped, and covered with black dots like sesame seeds; the edge of its tail fin has a distinct white border...

It's too easy to recognize.

Sesame-spotted sesame buds are very cheap to farm.

Sesame spots, also known as dense dotted spots or Bridgman spots, are simply called "spotted spots" in the Chaoshan region.

It gets its name from the reddish spots that cover its entire body like sesame seeds, and it lives year-round in the coastal reef areas.

The flesh of the sesame grouper is snow-white, tender, smooth, and delicious.

Because its flesh is tender and easily falls apart, it is often used for steaming in Chaozhou cuisine.

The sesame-like spots commonly found in restaurants are usually 1-1.5 kilograms each, and occasionally more than 2 kilograms.

"Ah Can, what good luck! You're about to go back and you still managed to catch a sesame seed."

Feng Ye was also somewhat envious of his good fortune.
