Chapter 3: Harvesting the Large Yellow Croaker

"The fishing net is so heavy!"

As soon as he picked it up, he felt that it was quite heavy, and his face lit up with even more joy.

"Brother Ye, hurry up, I can't wait to cut the fish up."

Ah Can stood behind Feng Ye, rubbing his hands together, eager to try.

Xiao Guowen and Xiao Guowu were similarly overwhelmed with excitement.

"What's the rush? Take your time. It would be heartbreaking if the fish got away."

Feng Ye carefully pulled the fishing net, trying not to cause too much vibration so as not to frighten the large yellow croaker and make it struggle wildly.

The net had only been pulled up less than two meters when a large, golden fish was caught on it, weighing at least three pounds.

Feng Ye dared not pull any further. If the big yellow croaker struggled and escaped, he would regret it so much that he would want to bang his head against the wall. So he said, "Use the net, quickly bring the net."

No sooner had he finished speaking than the net was extended over the head of the large yellow croaker, and it was quickly scooped into the net.

"Three jin, at least three jin."

Xiao Guowen weighed the net in his hand and immediately started shouting.

"Pull him up quickly, I'll untie the first one."

Ah-chan urged, he couldn't wait any longer.

"They're here, they're here."

Feng Ye slowly pulled the net up, and Xiao Guowen cooperated, and soon they had lifted the large yellow croaker onto the boat.

Ah-Can pounced on the fish like a vicious dog hunting its prey, carefully taking it out of the net and gently untying the large yellow croaker from the net.

Large yellow croakers are very precious; they must not be damaged in any way, otherwise the price will be greatly reduced.

In order not to harm the large yellow croaker, Ah-Can had no choice but to tear the fishing net's mesh from the middle.

We'd rather ruin the net than harm the large yellow croaker.

"Slow down, no one's going to take it from you."

In order to break the net, Ah-Can even used his teeth, which left Feng Ye speechless.

"Hehe...too bad I didn't bring scissors."

Ah-chan grinned widely, grinning foolishly.

"Brother Ye, pull quickly, I need to untie the second one."

Xiao Guowu was also eager to try.

"Coming right away."

Feng Ye continued to pull the fishing net, and this time he saw fish again after about five meters. There were two fish, one of which weighed about two pounds and the other of which weighed only seven or eight ounces.

Xiao Guowen methodically used a net to scoop it up and then handed it to Xiao Guowu to untangle.

At this moment, Ah-Can finally took off the first rope, held it in his arms for a while, and then reluctantly put it down in the cabin.

Large yellow croakers die very quickly after being taken out of the water, so even if the small wooden boat has a small live water compartment, it is useless and can only be thrown on the boat.

"Find something to cover it up, so the cucumber fish doesn't change color."

After Feng Ye put A-Can down the large yellow croaker, he went to untangle another small large yellow croaker that Xiao Guowu hadn't had time to untangle, and immediately spoke up to remind him.

"Yes, it needs to be covered."

Ah-Can also remembered the habits of the large yellow croaker and immediately started searching for it on the small wooden boat.

Each large yellow croaker has a golden skin gland on its side, which secretes golden pigment, giving it a golden-yellow color. However, this golden pigment is easily decomposed by ultraviolet light or strong light, causing it to fade.

Therefore, during the day or when there is light, the large yellow croaker usually appears white, but this process is reversible. At night or in the absence of light, it will turn golden yellow.

It's possible that the large yellow croakers that Feng Ye and his team caught had just surfaced from the deep sea and hadn't had time to turn white, which is why they appeared golden yellow.

(I'll force an explanation, is that okay?)

However, it's fading in color and isn't as golden and dazzling as the ones caught at night.

In fact, the price of large yellow croaker has little impact on whether it fades or not, but why not keep its golden color if it can be preserved? Golden color is more pleasing to the eye than white.

Gold or silver, which looks better?

"Brother Ye, there's nothing on the boat to use as a cover."

After searching around, Ah-Can found nothing and could only shrug helplessly.

"Take off your clothes and use them as a cover. After we sell the big yellow croaker, I'll buy you a dozen so you can wear them every day."

Feng Ye wanted to give him a couple of slaps on the head. He couldn't even think of a solution without finding it himself, and he had to remind him.

"Oh... okay."

Ah-Can realized what was happening, took off his shirt, and covered the large yellow croaker with it. He had no choice but to continue working shirtless.

As the nets were continuously pulled up, the number of large yellow croakers increased dramatically.

This 100-meter-long net pulled up nearly fifty large yellow croakers, averaging one every two meters. They varied in size, with the smallest weighing only about half a pound and the largest weighing over five pounds, with the majority weighing around two pounds.

I don't know the exact weight, but it's definitely over 100 pounds.

This meant that Ah-Can's shirt couldn't cover the croaker at all, and the other three had to take off their shirts to cover it as well. I'm sure they'll have to take off their pants when the next croaker comes up in the net.

Xiao Guowen shouted excitedly, "Damn it, we're rich! At least a hundred catties! How much can we sell it for?"

Feng Ye laughed loudly, "This is only the first net; there are still three more to be caught."

"I'm rich! I'm rich..."

"Keep going, keep going..."

The excited shouts of the four of them echoed throughout the ship.

The April sun was already quite strong, and they were at sea, but they were all shirtless and didn't seem to mind the sun at all; instead, their faces were beaming with joyful smiles.

"I'll pull the second net."

Once the first net was fully pulled up, Xiao Guowen put down the landing net and used a hook to hook the buoy of the second net.

"There are four nets in total. We'll each pull one net and see who's lucky enough to pull up the most yellowfin croakers."
