Chapter 308 Dragging Two Nets

The next morning, Feng Ye got up and went to the dock first thing.

After a night, the sea was much calmer and the waves were much smaller, so we could sail the boat back.

On the beach, however, men, women, and children stood with buckets, waiting for the tide to recede.

Everyone wanted to take advantage of the typhoon to try their luck at the beach and make a fortune.

Despite the tragedy that just happened there yesterday, they couldn't resist the temptation of making money.

Feng Ye felt a little regretful. He actually wanted to participate, as he was sure there would be a lot of goods to pick up.

But he has to go sailing and can't find the time.

Because they arrived at the harbor relatively late, the Rising Sun was moored outside, anchored on someone else's ship.

We need to go early so that others don't have to wait too long.

Although it was a cloudy day, Ah-Can's family still put out the dried fish to dry.

Feng Ye looked at them and saw that they were all half-dried.

He smelled it again, and thankfully there was no strange odor. He didn't know if he could ultimately preserve the fruits of his labor.

They called Ah-Can, and the two headed towards Lu Family Village.

After an hour-long trek through the mud, they arrived at Lujia Village Wharf.

By this time, there were already a large number of people on the dock.

Some were from Lujia Village, but most were fishermen from the other three villages on the island, all coming to sail back home.

Among this group of people, Feng Ye saw Xiao Zhaojun and his two sons, who had also come to set sail, along with other fishermen from Dongtou Village.

Xiao Guowen and Xiao Guowu also saw the two of them.

The two brothers stepped forward and put their arms around Feng Ye and A Can's necks respectively.

"Good heavens, you two are really incredibly daring! You dare to go out to sea during a typhoon? Are you out of your minds?"

"The worst part is that even after making a fortune, he doesn't treat us to drinks. Damn, he deserves a beating."

As they spoke, the two brothers pretended to punch Feng Ye and A Can a few times.

"It's none of my business. It was Ye-ge's idea, and he insisted on going. If you want to fight, fight him instead."

Ah-Can immediately shifted the blame onto Feng-Ye.

As the saying goes, "It's better to die for your friend than for yourself."

Feng Ye pretended to be angry and said, "Ah Can, you actually pushed me out to take the bullet, I'm breaking off all ties with you."

Xiao Guowu laughed and said, "I don't care whose idea it was, you all had a part in it, and you all have to face the judgment of justice."

"Brother Ye was the mastermind, I was just an accomplice," Ah Can protested.

“As accomplices, there is no distinction between primary and secondary roles,” Xiao Guowen corrected earnestly.

After joking around for a while, Feng Ye said, "Stop fooling around, Ah Can and I have to go set sail, so that others don't get impatient."

"Alright, I won't keep you any longer. Remember to treat us to drinks tonight, don't even think about backing out."

"No problem, just prepare some snacks to go with your drinks."

After exchanging a few words, Feng Ye and A Can took a detour from other fishing boats and got onto the Xuri outside.

After untying the ropes, Ah-chan started the diesel engine.

With a roar, the Rising Sun slowly broke away from the protection of other ships and sailed towards the open sea.

The sea breeze, carrying the unique freshness and saltiness of the rain, gently caressed my face, which was very pleasant.

"Ah Chan, the waves aren't big. Do you want to go out and haul in a couple of nets? Maybe we can catch something big."

As Feng Ye gazed at the receding coastline, an indescribable surge of emotion welled up within him.

Upon hearing this, Ah-Can frowned slightly, a hint of hesitation flashing in his eyes, but thinking of what he had gained the day before yesterday, he was also tempted.

“I know there might be a large cargo, but the typhoon just passed, and the sea looks relatively calm on the surface, but there are definitely strong currents underwater. What if…”

After thinking about it, he decided to listen to his inner caution.

Feng Ye understood A-Can's concerns, but still advised, "You're right, safety comes first. We can't gamble with our lives. However, we won't go too far. We'll just cruise around the inner sea. There won't be any danger."

"Well... let's give it a try! But it's agreed that you can't go too far, at most one or two nautical miles away from our island."

Ah-chan finally nodded in agreement.

"Okay, you drive the boat, go as far as you want, I won't object, alright?"

"That's more like it."

The two hit it off immediately, and Ah-chan adjusted the course, with the Rising Sun slowly heading towards deeper waters.

Feng Ye went into the cabin, untied the secured trawl net, and moved it to the stern to tidy it up.

After only about twenty minutes, Ah-Can slowed down the boat and said, "Brother Ye, let's lower the net."

Feng Ye responded immediately and threw the trawl net into the sea.

He didn't go to the wheelhouse; he just sat on the deck, enjoying the sea breeze and idly looking around.

There are almost no motorized fishing boats going out to sea today. The time is too short; they can't even make tens of thousands of dollars before they have to go back, which is not worthwhile.

I did see a lot of diligent little wooden boats, all out setting up fish traps and longline fishing...

The small wooden boat is not as stable as the large ship, and today there are waves, so it's rocking and swaying, looking very dangerous, as if it might capsize at any moment.

Actually, that's not the case.

Although the small wooden boat appears tiny and fragile in the wind and waves, it is not so easy to capsize it.

About an hour and a half later, Ah-Can suddenly shouted, "Brother Ye, let's close the net and see if there's any cargo."

Feng Ye snapped out of his daze and immediately ran to the stern to retrieve the net.

As the net-lifting machine operated, the rigging line was gradually pulled up...

As the net tightened, the seafood inside gradually came into view.

"Damn, there's a lot of stuff, but it's all worthless junk."

Ah-chan was extremely disappointed.

Feng Ye frowned, looking at the miscellaneous goods filling the internet, feeling quite disappointed.

"Forget it, Ah-Can, don't be too discouraged. Maybe the next haul will be a big catch. Didn't your first haul the other day turn out pretty much the same?"

"Let's haul one more net. If there's still no goods left, we'll head back."

"Alright, you're in charge today."

I emptied the goods out, tidied up the net, and put it back down.

Feng Ye stayed at the stern to sort the catch from this net.

Black sea bream, yellow sea bream, sea bass, mullet, tuna, conger eel, ribbonfish, swimming crab...

These are all very common fish.

The only slightly pleasant surprise was that we managed to snag five blue crabs, which were quite large. The smallest weighed about a pound, and the largest was about two pounds.

Actually, this net yielded a very good catch, enough to sell for forty or fifty yuan.

After all, this is an inland sea.

It's just that their expectations were too high; they were only interested in large quantities and rare items, which is why they were disappointed.

About two hours later, Ah-Can shouted again, "Brother Ye, there's definitely cargo this time. I feel like the boat's speed has even decreased a bit."

"Really? Is it that heavy?"

Feng Ye was somewhat suspicious, but he still rushed over and began to close the net.

"It's just a feeling; I don't know for sure whether the boat's speed has actually decreased."

Ah-chan stopped the boat and let it drift with the current, then ran to the stern to help.

This time, pulling up the net was obviously much more difficult than the previous one, and the speed at which the net was pulled back was noticeably slower.

The two immediately beamed with joy, knowing that there would definitely be plenty of goods available online.
