Feng Ye turned around and caught up with Ye Qingling and the others, who hadn't gone far.
After explaining the situation, Ye Qingling didn't say much, only reminding him to be careful.
When he returned, Ah-chan was already on the Rising Sun and starting the diesel engine.
Feng Ye untied the mooring rope, jumped onto the boat, and used a bamboo pole to push the boat away from the dock.
Seeing that someone was taking the lead, some people who were originally afraid but were bolder also sailed out in their boats.
The whale shark stranded not far from the dock.
In no time at all, the Rising Sun arrived.
Feng Ye stood at the bow of the boat the whole time, never putting down the bamboo pole in his hand. He used the pole to poke the whale shark's back, which was exposed above the water, a few times.
But the whale shark didn't react at all; the spot where it was poked was only slightly dented, and it recovered as soon as the bamboo pole was removed.
Although the boats that followed didn't dare to get too close, they all shone flashlights on him.
Therefore, the lighting is good, and you can see things more clearly.
"No response?"
Feng Ye frowned and poked at it a few more times with the bamboo pole, but still saw no reaction.
Just when he thought the whale shark was dead, he heard someone on another boat exclaim, "They've started the engine!"
He hurriedly asked, "Did it really move?"
"Did it move? I didn't see it."
"I didn't see it either."
"I saw it, I saw its pectoral fin move."
"I saw it too, the pectoral fins definitely moved!"
"Really? Then I'll try again."
Feng Ye, half-believing and half-doubting, applied a little force, this time not by poking, but by knocking.
Several flashlights were shone on the pectoral fins on both sides, and everyone stared intently at them.
Now everyone could see clearly that the pectoral fin did indeed pat gently.
"Alive, still alive..."
"He's not dead yet..."
"I knew it! The water here is pretty deep, how could anyone die like this?"
"Hindsight is 20/20. If you didn't see it move, how could you know if it was dead or alive?"
"I estimate that it swam in during high tide and failed to swim out in time during low tide, so it got stranded here."
"Luckily it was nighttime. If it were daytime, under such a strong sun, they would have died of dehydration long ago."
"If it were during the day, it wouldn't have taken this long to discover it..."
Feng Ye ignored what the others were saying.
Based on his feeling, the whale shark wasn't very energetic and must have been trapped for quite some time.
He then struck it a few more times with a bamboo pole, this time with increased force.
Perhaps sensing the pain, this time the whale shark not only moved its pectoral fins, but also swept its tail fin halfway around, stirring up a large splash of water.
It was so sudden that Feng Ye was completely unprepared.
Not to mention that if you don't take precautions against this, you'll be soaked from head to toe by the splashing water.
Even the Rising Sun was rocked by the waves created by the whale shark's sweep and moved back a distance.
He lost his balance and fell hard onto the bow deck.
The other ships were farther away, so they weren't affected as much.
At least the people on those boats weren't completely soaked.
But it did sway back a little, only the amplitude was relatively small.
However, some people lost their footing and either fell on the deck or grabbed onto something to regain their balance.
One unlucky fellow even fell headfirst into the sea, prompting a group of people to shout and question him in dissatisfaction.
"Ah Ye, what are you doing? Why are you using so much force?"
"I'm sorry everyone, I was afraid it wouldn't react if I didn't use enough force, so I used a little more force. But I didn't expect it to react so strongly, I'm so sorry."
Feng Ye put down the bamboo pole, wiped the seawater that had splashed all over his face, and smiled somewhat awkwardly.
"Wow, he's still so energetic, he doesn't look half-dead at all."
"It's just stranded. It'll probably swim back into the sea when the tide comes in."
"Such a big fish, it would be great if we could catch it and sell it. Even if it's cheap, we could still make a lot of money."
"How can we catch something this big? It makes such a big noise when it flicks its tail. If we really provoke it into a frenzy, all of us combined wouldn't be enough to fill its teeth."
"Exactly, whale shark, whale shark, it's a shark."
The others listened and thought about it, and agreed that it made a lot of sense.
Temporary docility does not guarantee permanent docility;
Not going crazy for a moment doesn't mean you won't go crazy forever;
Just because I haven't heard of it eating people doesn't mean it really doesn't.
After all, whale sharks are sharks!
This is what these people are thinking.
Feng Ye, however, knew that they were wrong.
Whale sharks are indeed sharks, but they really don't eat people.
However, if provoked, it might attack people and ships.
Even a rabbit will bite when cornered.
Not to mention a whale shark of such a large size.
However, there's no need to tell them these things; they might not believe it anyway.
Let them maintain their reverence for whale sharks.
"Alright, everyone, let's go back first. The people on the shore seem to be calling us. They probably saw the whale shark flick its tail and are worried about us."
Upon hearing Feng Ye's words, Ah Can quickly ran into the wheelhouse, turned the boat around, and headed towards the dock.
The other ships quickly followed suit and headed back.
As soon as they reached the shore, they were bombarded with questions from the people there, asking what had just happened and why the whale shark had suddenly become enraged.
Everyone offered their explanations, and they all said that the whale shark was the same big one they had followed back that afternoon.
"Oh no, what should we do? We can't just leave him stranded here forever, can we?"
