Chapter 48 Chinese White Dolphin Hunting

Another small shrimp was hooked, in the same spot, and soon enough, another fish took the bait.

Feng Ye picked it up excitedly, only to be immediately disappointed; it was a bluefin bream.

"I'll just have to eat it myself. I'll braise it when I get back."

Yesterday, Feng Xuan caught a lot of mackerel. He didn't sell any of them; he took them all home and even gave a few to his family to eat for dinner. He dried the rest of them.

This fish is too cheap. Unless you have a lot of it, there's no need to sell it. You might as well dry it into fish jerky and eat it slowly.

After catching two more bluefin bream in a row, Feng Ye had no choice but to row his boat to a different spot and cast his line again, but the result was still bluefin bream.

Making a catch should be a happy thing, but he wasn't fishing for leisure; he was there to make money, so he couldn't be happy.

He had to find another spot, and this time he paddled for almost ten minutes before stopping.

"I refuse to believe that there will be bluefin bream down there."

He reattached the small shrimp to the hook, cast it into the sea, and within a minute or so, he had a fish on the line. He then lifted the fishing rod.

Unexpectedly, it seems I set the hook too early this time; the fish didn't bite properly and fell back into the sea as soon as it was out of the water.

This fish is no longer a bluefin bream, but a red sea bream, even bigger than the one we just caught.

"Damn, they got away."

It's a bit of a pity about Feng Ye.

I haven't fished in so long, I'm a bit rusty, and even my fishing skills have deteriorated.

They baited the hooks again and went back into the sea.

Because he had lost a fish, he paid more attention this time. After the fish was hooked, he didn't rush to lift the rod, but waited a while before lifting the rod to set the hook.

Sure enough, this time the fish didn't escape and became a sure thing.

"Pufferfish? How did you manage to catch this? I remember pufferfish don't eat shrimp."

A large round ball was hanging on the fishhook, its head almost completely hidden.

He was about to take it off and throw it away when he suddenly felt something was wrong. Upon closer inspection, he realized it wasn't a pufferfish.

"Abalone, so that's what it is."

The spiny abalone, also known as the pufferfish or balloon fish, is scientifically called pufferfish.

It looks very similar to a pufferfish. When provoked or threatened, it will swallow a large amount of water or air, causing its body to swell into a spiky sphere.

Many people confuse these two types of fish, thinking they are the same fish, but they are indeed two different fish.

Pufferfish are fish belonging to the genus *Tetraodon* in the family Tetraodontidae of the order Tetraodontiformes. Their bodies are covered with bristles.

The spiny abalone is a fish belonging to the family Tetraodontidae in the order Tetraodontiformes. Except for its snout and caudal peduncle, its entire body is covered with long, movable spines.

Unlike pufferfish, which are poisonous throughout, spiny abalone has no poisonous skin or flesh, but its liver, gonads, and internal organs contain potent toxins.

As its name suggests, it is extremely delicious, especially its skin, which is rich in collagen.

"This one isn't enough for a dish. I wish we had two more."

Feng Ye happily accepted the bait, then baited the hook and continued fishing.

After catching two black sea breams in a row, he finally caught a spiny abalone, making him extremely happy.

Unfortunately, no more abalone was served after that, not even any other fish. Instead, they kept serving mackerel, which left him completely exasperated.

If you can't afford to mess with them, can't you just avoid them?

He had barely started rowing when he suddenly noticed a flock of seabirds circling overhead in the distance.

Where seabirds circle, there are bound to be schools of fish.

This is basic common sense for fishermen.

Feng Ye rowed the boat with some anticipation, but couldn't help regretting not bringing a hand-thrown net.

Before long, the small wooden boat approached the area where seabirds were circling.

The sea surface seemed to be boiling, with many fish leaping and jumping out of the water. The lucky ones managed to fall back into the sea, while the unlucky ones became food for seabirds.

Just as Feng Ye was wondering what was going on, a large white fish leaped out of the water. He then realized that it was the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, known as the "giant panda of the sea," hunting.

This is a sea spirit, and also a beast destined for prison.

Although he had only seen one dolphin so far, he knew that there were many more dolphins lurking beneath the surface.

It's impossible for just one dolphin to hunt so many fish; there must be at least several more in the water.

Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins generally live in groups, ranging from three to five to as many as ten or twenty, and rarely act alone.

Feng Ye stood on the boat curiously and looked around. Sure enough, he saw many more dolphins, some big and some small, working together to feed.

He didn't get too close, partly because he didn't want to disturb its meal, and partly out of fear.

He wasn't afraid of the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins. Although dolphins are mischievous, they generally don't attack fishing boats, much less humans.

He was worried that other large fish might be attracted to the food, which his small wooden boat might not be able to handle.

The most important point is that he has no tools and can only watch. Otherwise, he could take the risk, as long as he is more careful.

Just as he was engrossed in watching, he heard someone call out, "Ah Ye".

The sounds of seabirds calling, fish splashing on the water, and dolphins calling were all mixed together, and for a moment he couldn't tell who was calling him.

Looking in the direction of the voice, I realized it was my older brother.

"Brother, what brings you here too?"

Even though he asked that question, he guessed that he must have seen seabirds circling overhead.

After looking around, I saw several small wooden boats rowing rapidly toward us.

"Why don't you go over there? There are so many seabirds circling overhead; there must be schools of fish down there."

"That's a group of dolphins hunting."

Feng Xuan exclaimed in surprise, "Dolphins are hunting? There really is a school of fish!"

"Um."

"Then why don't you go over there? Dolphins don't attack people."

"This is all I have. What use is it to me in the past?"

Feng Ye raised his fishing rod, looking helpless.

Feng Xuan laughed and said, "Go back and ask your father to bring you a hand-thrown net tomorrow, so that you won't be helpless next time you encounter a school of fish."

Feng Ye nodded: "It is indeed necessary to buy one and keep it on the ship, just in case."

As they were talking, several other small boats rowed straight towards the sea below where seabirds were circling. Feng Xuan said somewhat anxiously, "I have to hurry over and cast my nets."

Feng Ye waved his hand and reminded him, "Go ahead, keep an eye on the sea for any large fish, like sharks or whales. If you see any, run away quickly."

"I will be careful."
