Hearing their happy voices, Feng Jialing was also overjoyed.
When he heard the sound of the fish cascading down, he couldn't hold back any longer and turned around to look.
What came into his view was a mountain of small yellow croakers piled up on the deck once again.
"Looks like today's been tough. Should we switch roles and let one of you take over steering the boat?"
Feng Ye and A-Can exchanged a glance and shook their heads.
"No need, Uncle Ling, we can still hold on."
"If you need a change, just say so, and we'll take turns."
"knew."
Feng Ye responded and, together with A-Can, lowered the trawl net back down before getting back to the busy sorting work.
Both of them knew that if things continued this way, the sorting work would become even more difficult.
The catch that cannot be sorted on the deck will increase with each haul in of the nets.
But there was nothing they could do; there were simply too few of them.
Feng Jialing couldn't possibly leave the boat unattended and stop specifically to sort the goods.
Time is money.
They could only try to speed things up and sort as much as possible before the next round of netting.
"Sigh, I didn't expect there to be so many fish in just one haul. I miscalculated. If only I had brought another person with me, we could have managed to keep up."
Ah-Can sighed as he sorted the goods.
"Yes, who would have thought that the fishery resources here would be so good."
Feng Ye shared the same sentiment.
He truly underestimated the power of the small yellow croaker's flood season in this era.
I thought that having Feng Jialing would make things easier, but it turns out we're still stretched thin.
Miscalculation!
A huge miscalculation!
"It seems we'll have to find a boatman after we dock this afternoon. Otherwise, it'll be too much work for the three of us."
As he spoke, Ah-Can quickly tossed the fish one by one into the correct basket.
Feng Ye shook his head: "It's no use talking about this now. We don't even know where to land to sell fish."
"That's true. A distant solution can't quench an immediate fire. Let's wait until we've sold all the fish on shore before we talk about it."
"The key issue is whether we can even find the people. We're in an unfamiliar place; who would trust us?"
"Then what should we do?"
Ah-Can was dumbfounded.
"We'll see when the time comes; I don't know for sure right now."
Feng Ye also had a headache.
He did have a plan in mind.
However, it's still too late to quench our immediate thirst; the arrival of the others won't be for another two days.
Perhaps they'll have to work hard for the next two days.
When the third net was hauled in, there were even more fish on the deck that couldn't be sorted in time.
The net also contained a large quantity of goods, which, after being poured out, piled up into a mountain.
Feng Ye and A-Can exchanged a wry smile; they were both starting to feel the strain.
Although you're sorting things while sitting on a low stool, bending over all the time is still very tiring.
"No, we need to change it. Let my dad sort it for a while. I'll go start the boat and take a break."
Having just finished preparing the trawl net and lowered it, Ah-Can looked at the deck full of fish and said wearily.
Having lots of fish is a good thing, but it's too tiring.
"Okay, then I'll hold on a little longer and take over the boat after we've hauled in the last net."
Feng Ye also wanted to rest.
But Ah-chan brought it up first, so he had to wait a little longer.
"good."
Ah-Can clenched his fist and pounded his aching back before turning and heading to the driver's seat.
Feng Ye continued to work diligently. Despite his fatigue, he knew the work had to be done and he couldn't afford to waste a moment.
As time went on, they caught two more nets.
The harvest was pretty good, with each net yielding roughly the same result.
It was past 3 p.m., and some of the other fishing boats operating on the sea had already begun to pack up and return to port.
Feng Ye noticed the movements of the fishing boats from the wheelhouse and felt it was time to consider going ashore.
He turned around and shouted loudly to Ah-Can and his son, "Uncle Ling, Ah-Can, let's call it a day. Stop casting the nets and find a place to dock and sell the fish."
Feng Jialing, who was tidying up the fishing nets, looked up at the sky and nodded, saying, "Let's leave it at that then."
"Uncle Ling, you've been working for over three hours. Why don't you take over driving the boat?"
"Well, as I get older, my back really can't take it anymore."
Feng Jialing did not refuse and went into the driver's seat to take over the driving job.
"Uncle Ling, where do we dock?"
Feng Ye walked to the driver's side door, then turned back and asked.
Feng Jialing pondered for a moment and replied, "Our previous fleet went to Changgu Island, which is roughly in the southwest, but whether we could find it is unknown."
"Finding an island in the ocean is too difficult and unrealistic."
"Then what do you suggest we do?"
Feng Ye frowned and thought for a moment: "How about we follow the returning ship and see where they go?"
"That's a good idea."
Feng Jialing nodded. "Okay, I'll dock the boat and ask."
"It's best to sell fish in a larger place, rather than on a small island with only one or two villages."
“Changgu Island is quite large; it’s a town-level island with its own pier.”
Feng Ye nodded and said, "It's true that bigger places are better. Small fishing villages might be xenophobic or deliberately lower the purchase price, and it's also inconvenient for us to replenish our supplies."
That's exactly what I mean.
There are many fishing boats that have finished fishing on the sea, heading in all directions except the east.
Feng Jialing deliberately chose a fishing boat that was heading southwest and went to approach it.
Feng Ye went to the bow of the ship, and when the Rising Sun approached the fishing boat, he saw that the deck of the opposite ship was piled with baskets of small yellow croakers.
Moreover, there was still a large pile of unsorted fish on the deck, and three old fishermen were busy bending over.
