Chapter 824 Onlookers

After waking everyone up, Feng Ye went down to the deck and waited for the ship to dock.

Before long, Ye Chenliang and the others came to the deck one after another, yawning.

Everyone's first reaction was to walk to the stern and look at the sea behind them.

However, as the ship prepared to dock, its speed decreased, and the enormous gray whale sank into the water, disappearing without a trace.

If it weren't for the fact that the three ships were still on high alert, they would almost doubt whether that behemoth was still there.

Although the county wharf cannot be called a deep-water wharf, it is still several meters deep.

It was high tide, and the water level was even higher. After the boat docked, the gray whale was completely submerged.

Therefore, it did not attract anyone's attention.

Stop looking and get to work.

Feng Ye urged them on, instructing the boatmen to unload all the cargo from the fish hold.

He then disembarked and went to find a tractor to haul the goods.

The boats that were supposed to dock had already docked, and there were hardly any people on the pier, except for some fishermen preparing to go out to sea.

And not a single tractor was seen.

Left with no other option, Feng Ye left the dock, hoping that a tractor would pass by.

Fortunately, he was lucky enough to run into one.

The cargo on the three ships combined is quite large; one tractor is definitely not enough. But there's no other way for now, so we can only haul some of it over first and then call a few more tractors to the dock once we reach the market.

After a flurry of activity, they finally managed to load some of the seafood from the Donglai ship onto the tractor.

Feng Ye did not go to the market; Feng Xuan kept him behind.

He and Ah-Can stayed up most of the night and were indeed extremely tired.

When the tractor returned with several empty trucks and hauled away all the goods, Feng Ye and A-Can finally breathed a sigh of relief and went to sleep.

The two lay on the hard bed, their tired bodies quickly drifting off to sleep.

As dawn breaks, a new day begins.

The dock began to bustle with activity.

The engines of the fishing boats roared, and the shouts of the fishermen rose and fell.

These are fishermen who came back early in the morning to prepare for the early market.

Fishing boats dock at three times a day: early morning, evening, and dawn.

Feng Ye was woken up by the noise. He rubbed his sleepy eyes, raised his wrist to check the time, and saw that it was already past eight o'clock.

He decided not to sleep any longer and got up.

When they went down to the deck, they saw that Ye Chenliang and the others had already returned after selling their goods. They were all gathered on the aft deck chatting, their eyes occasionally glancing at the sea.

The same was true on the neighboring Dong Sheng and Feng Shou ships.

"When did you get back? Why don't you go and get some sleep?"

"I got back around seven o'clock."

Ye Chenliang replied, "I slept enough last night and wasn't very tired. Everyone was also thinking about the gray whale that was towed back, so no one wanted to go to sleep."

"There's no need to rush, is there? The water at this dock is quite deep. Even after the tide recedes, you might not be able to see anything, let alone now that the tide has just started to recede."

Feng Ye shook his head helplessly.

He knew everyone was excited, but they were all too impatient.

"Anyway, there's nothing else to do, so I'll just wait."

Ye Chenliang said with a smile, "I brought back breakfast for you and A-Can, and it's in the pot."

"knew."

Feng Ye entered the cabin, opened the pot lid, and saw three bowls of eight-treasure porridge, along with some steamed buns and mantou, all still warm.

Clearly, it was meant for him, Ah Can, and Fang Yi.

After washing up, he took a bowl of porridge and a few steamed buns, went to the aft deck, and asked while eating, "Has Fang Yi not gotten up yet?"

“After we came back, we couldn’t find him, nor was he in bed. He must have left.”

"Left? Why didn't you say goodbye?"

"He probably saw that you and Ah-chan were still sleeping and didn't want to disturb you."

"This kid..."

"He must have gone back to call for help, right? I wonder when they'll finally arrive."

"It's still early, I've only been at work for a short time, I can just wait."

After having breakfast, Feng Ye walked around on the deck, occasionally glancing towards the dock and the sea.

Around nine o'clock, Fang Yi returned, accompanied by a group of uniformed police officers.

He also changed into a police uniform.

As soon as the police arrived at the dock, they quickly took action and set up a cordon.

This action did quiet down the once bustling dock.

Immediately afterwards, a noisy discussion broke out.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and stood outside the cordon, pointing and whispering curiously about what had happened.

Fang Yi boarded the Donglai and said to Feng Ye, "Everything has been arranged, but it will take time for them to get here; we'll have to wait a few hours."

"Okay, we're not in a hurry."

"It's good that you're not in a hurry. I thought you were eager to go to sea."

"Today is already the tenth day of the lunar month. A round trip would take up almost a whole day. How many days can we work outside? It would be better to let everyone rest for a few more days and wait until after the Mid-Autumn Festival."

Fang Yi nodded, then asked, "What about the big whale? Can we see it now?"

"We can't see anything. We'll wait until around 2 o'clock when the tide recedes to the bottom. I don't know if we'll be able to see anything then."

"You can't see anything after the tide goes out? What if reporters come and can't take pictures? They'll have to wait for the people from the research institute to arrive?"

Which reporter did you contact?

"It's in the city, it should arrive around 11 o'clock."

"What about the research institute?"

"The Provincial Oceanographic Research Institute is on Xiamen Island. It takes several hours to get there, and we won't arrive until the afternoon."

Feng Ye frowned and pondered for a moment: "It's not that there's no way. We can pull the gillnet back up a bit more and pull the gray whale out of the water, but we can only expose part of it, not the whole thing."
