The water was calm, the buoy trembled slightly, and Feng Ye held his breath, waiting for the exciting moment when the fish would bite the hook.
However, the fish they caught in succession were not good fish; they were either small, miscellaneous fish or the most common sea bass.
He was extremely frustrated, especially when he heard Hao Aiguo's cheers from the fishing spot next to him: "Haha, I finally caught a big fish!"
"Damn it, why am I having such bad luck today? Did I forget to check the almanac before I went out?"
Feng Ye muttered something to himself, glanced at the sea, then looked back at the ocean, took a deep breath, and adjusted his mindset.
Fishing is all about patience and luck; you can't rush it.
There's still plenty of time; there will be plenty of opportunities.
Hao Aiguo's side had already begun a tug-of-war with the big fish, the fishing rod bent into an exaggerated arc, and the fishing line was taut.
The others were drawn over and gathered around Hao Aiguo, excitedly watching the battle.
Not long after, Hao Aiguo pulled the fish out of the water. It was a blue wrasse, quite large, almost a meter long.
Feng Ye glanced at it and couldn't help but feel a little envious.
Fortunately, he caught a fish at that moment, and the float suddenly sank.
He quickly lifted the rod to set the hook, but didn't feel much weight; it wasn't a big fish.
He pulled and yanked hard, dragging the fish out of the water.
Feng Ye was pleasantly surprised.
I thought it was just another common species, but it turned out to be a gem grouper, only a bit small, weighing only about two pounds.
In fact, this type of grouper doesn't grow very big; the adult fish is 23-30 centimeters long, and the largest individual is no more than 50 centimeters.
"Hey, isn't that a grouper?"
Qin Aijun noticed the fish Feng Ye had pulled up and came over to ask.
Feng Ye nodded: "Yes, it's a type of grouper, scientifically known as the gem grouper, but it has many common names depending on the region."
Terms like "hooligan grid," "glutinous rice grid," and "jewel-spotted fish" all refer to it.
Pointing to the fish's tail, he continued, "The most distinctive feature of this grouper is its tail, which has a distinct white edge at the end."
There are many types of grouper, some of which are very similar and difficult to distinguish at first glance. However, by carefully observing their markings, colors, and body shapes, subtle differences can be found.
The gem grouper is easily identifiable by its distinctive white-edged tail fin.
However, this alone is not enough; the tip of the sesame-spotted tail fin also has a distinct white edge.
Moreover, both are relatively small groupers, so their body color and markings need to be considered for identification.
The jewel grouper has a brownish-brown body with brown, yellowish-brown, or yellow hexagonal spots scattered on its surface. The largest spot is about the size of the pupil, and the spots are evenly distributed.
Unlike sesame spots, which are reddish round dots like sesame seeds and are more densely distributed.
Feng Ye has caught quite a few types of grouper, including tiger grouper, mouse grouper, giant grouper, red grouper, and so on.
However, this is the first time that a jewel grouper has been caught.
I don't know if I'll ever be able to complete my collection and catch all the different species of grouper in my lifetime.
"Xiao Feng, is this fish delicious?"
Yang Wei also came over.
"I've never eaten it."
Feng Ye shook his head, then asked in return, "Are there any groupers that don't taste good?"
Qin Aijun smiled and said, "No matter what kind of grouper it is, the price is not low, naturally because its meat is delicious and has a delicate texture. Whether steamed or braised, it tastes very good."
Yang Wei then asked, "What is the price of this kind of grouper?"
"I don't know. Gemstone grouper is relatively rare. I'll have to ask around when I get back."
Qin Aijun turned to look at Feng Ye: "Little Feng, do you know?"
"I've never sold it before, so I don't know the price."
"You didn't even know that? It's quite rare? That means the price might be high. Tsk tsk, it wouldn't be bad to catch more of these."
Yang Wei then muttered to himself, "But this fish is a bit too small."
"This kind of grouper is like that, it doesn't grow very big, the biggest one is only about five or six pounds."
Feng Ye smiled and said, "There are quite a few large grouper, such as giant grouper, which can grow to several hundred pounds, or even over a thousand pounds."
"So big?"
Yang Wei stared wide-eyed, his face filled with disbelief.
"The giant grouper is considered the king of groupers, and the price is quite good. It just depends on whether you're lucky enough to find one."
"Hehe, I'm not chatting anymore, I'm going to go fishing for giant grouper."
Yang Wei rubbed his hands together and ran back to his fishing spot.
Feng Ye smiled slightly, not wanting to dampen his enthusiasm.
There's no such thing as an easy grouper to catch, especially the huge ones. Even if they bite, it takes a lot of patience and skill to successfully catch them.
More importantly, it is still unknown whether there are any giant groupers in this area.
Groupers are solitary fish with a strong sense of territory, and there is usually only one of them within a certain area.
After rebaiting his fishing rod, Feng Ye cast it back into the sea and continued fishing.
Time passed by, and the night deepened.
Everyone stayed at their respective fishing spots, with occasional exchanges and cheers.
After fishing for more than two hours, around 8:30 pm, the fish stopped biting much, and the frequency of catching fish decreased significantly.
Feng Ye packed up his fishing rod and prepared to go to sleep.
The night was even colder, so we decided to work through the night.
Although today's results weren't great, it's only the first day, so there's no need to rush. We should conserve our energy so we can be in better shape for the next day.
"Xiao Feng, aren't you going fishing anymore?"
