Feng Ye woke up relatively late, around nine o'clock.
Meanwhile, the second net from this voyage had already been hauled in.
The boatmen were all on deck, busy sorting the catch.
Ye Chenliang took over the helm again, and Du Yulin, who had stayed up late, went to catch up on sleep.
The weather has improved today; it's no longer gloomy but rather cloudy, with sunlight occasionally filtering through the clouds and shimmering on the sea.
More than a dozen seabirds circled in the air, occasionally letting out clear calls, waiting for an opportunity to catch small fish and shrimp stirred up by the propeller.
Some seabirds are bolder and will fly straight onto the deck, brazenly pecking at the scattered fish and shrimp.
The boatmen didn't care much, just occasionally waving their hands to shoo them away and prevent them from getting too unruly.
Feng Ye stretched and walked onto the deck, taking a deep breath of the fresh sea breeze, feeling refreshed.
He glanced at the mountain of fish; it was a mixed bag, with all sorts of species, but there were quite a few, so it seemed like a decent haul.
But he still asked, "How was the harvest?"
"Not bad, we caught two nets, each yielding about 3,600 to 3,700 jin."
One of the older boatmen replied with a smile, "But there aren't any really good catches; they're mostly common fish and shrimp."
"good."
Feng Ye nodded. Although there weren't any particularly good goods, the harvest was still quite satisfactory.
After all, these are just the first two nets released, so we can't expect too much.
After a few days, the fish and shrimp will gather, and the situation will naturally improve.
He turned and walked to the stern of the boat, intending to urinate, and then went to wash up and have breakfast.
However, after he finished urinating and shook himself, just as he was about to put his manhood back in his pants, he inadvertently noticed several yellow-green fish shadows flashing in the white waves at the stern of the boat.
"Huh, what kind of fish is that?"
Feng Ye took a closer look and recognized them as several spotted naked-cheeked sea bream.
Spotted naked-cheeked sea bream
Although I only saw a few, I estimate there are quite a few in the water, at the very least a small school of fish.
They exhibit distinct gregarious behaviors in foraging, breeding, and daily habitat.
They were chasing each other at the stern, appearing and disappearing in the waves, revealing their oval and flat bodies.
Suddenly, a huge dorsal fin, resembling a sail, emerged from the water and pounced on a spotted naked-cheeked sea bream, swallowing it whole in an instant.
Immediately afterwards, a wave rippled across the water, revealing a sailfish that was about two meters long.
Its sharp, sword-like upper jaw gleamed coldly in the sunlight, and in an instant, it pierced through another spotted naked-cheeked sea bream.
"Holy crap, that's a fierce sailfish!"
Feng Ye subconsciously raised an eyebrow and called out.
In fact, he had seen many fierce sailfish, but each time he had a different feeling.
Upon hearing his voice, the boatmen dropped what they were doing, ran to the side of the boat, and peered towards the stern.
"Wow, it really is a sailfish!"
"This sailfish isn't good; it's only about two meters long, a bit too small."
"Wow, this is still small? How big is considered big?"
"Pshaw, we've seen sailfish that are over three meters long, those are what you call big."
An old boatman smiled dismissively and said to the three new boatmen, "Let me tell you, if you go out to sea with Ah Ye, just wait and see what you'll find. You'll encounter all sorts of strange and wonderful things."
"Sailfish are nothing. Have you ever seen a great white shark weighing over a thousand pounds? Have you ever seen a humpback whale? Have you ever seen an orca deliver a gift to someone..."
He recounted those extraordinary adventures at sea as if they were his own treasures.
The three new boatmen had heard them boast before, so they weren't particularly surprised.
"We're lucky, we encountered a sailfish on our second day at sea. I've never even seen a sailfish this big before."
The one who said this was one of the two novice shipwrights, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"My goodness, its pointed upper jaw is really awesome."
Another novice boatswain was also very excited, but then said with some worry, "Oh dear, won't it attack our boat and puncture it?"
"You're overthinking it."
The old boatman chuckled and said, "We didn't provoke it, so why would it attack our boat? We've seen so many sailfish, and we've never seen one attack us first. It usually doesn't attack boats unless you really piss it off."
At this moment, no one cared about continuing to sort the goods; everyone was focused intently on the sea behind them, afraid of missing any exciting moment.
Only this sailfish remained on the surface of the sea; the other spotted naked-cheeked sea bream had already scattered and disappeared.
It twisted its body, flung the spotted naked-cheeked snapper in the air from its upper jaw, and then swooped down to catch it accurately, tear it apart, and swallow it whole.
The fish blood stained the surrounding seawater red, but was quickly diluted by the seawater and left no trace.
After swallowing the spotted naked-cheeked sea bream, the sailfish seemed unsatisfied and continued to swim in the water, looking for new prey.
However, a moment later, it suddenly accelerated and rushed towards the distant sea, as if it were fleeing for its life.
Its enormous, door-like dorsal fin left a silver trail on the sea surface before disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye.
"Huh, why did it run away?"
Everyone was puzzled as they looked in the direction the sailfish had disappeared.
The boatmen were preparing to return to work, and Feng Ye was also about to turn around to wash up when he noticed that the seawater not far from the stern of the boat was suddenly churning violently.
Immediately afterwards, several triangular, grayish-brown dorsal fins broke through the water, like sharp blades, easily slicing through the surface and rapidly approaching the stern of the boat.
