I've been going to the county for several days in a row, and the dried fish is selling quite quickly.
With the help of two vegetable market vendors, the dried fish they brought in almost every day were sold out.
However, the fishing harvest has not been very good these past few days.
After all, the time spent at sea has decreased, with four fewer hours each day.
Moreover, it takes longer to reach the fishing grounds from the county seat.
That day was still a good day for drying fish.
The sky was clear and blue, a gentle breeze caressed my face, and the sunlight shone on the sea, making it sparkle.
In the middle of the vast ocean, the Rising Sun could be seen drifting alone on the surface, moving slowly and steadily.
"Ah-Can, I need to talk to you about something."
"Brother Ye, what is it?"
“Look, these past few days we’ve had less time to fish because we need to take dried fish to the county, and the catch isn’t great either.”
"Yes, it's like the fish know this too, they don't swim into our net anymore."
"Your description is quite apt."
Feng Ye smiled, deeply agreeing, and continued, "For us, fishing at sea is our main job, and drying fish is a side job. Therefore, we have to spend more time on fishing."
"You mean you want to give up drying fish?"
Ah-Can frowned, "But this dried fish business is quite profitable and very stable. I can earn four or five hundred a day. It would be a shame to give it up."
Feng Ye shook his head and said, "Of course we won't give up. How could we give up such a lucrative business?"
"Then what do you mean? There are only two of us, we can't be in two places at once! We can't possibly have my mother and the others deliver the goods to the county, can we?"
That's not what I meant.
Feng Ye continued to shake his head, "The Harvest should be back soon. I want my father and your father to stop going to sea and come ashore to help."
"Have them deliver the goods to the county?"
"Yes, that way we can focus on going out to sea."
“That’s a good idea. But the problem is, without a boat, how will they deliver goods to the county? It’s a pity you sold your little wooden boat, otherwise you could have rowed there.”
“I’ve thought it over. We’ll make do with the ferry for now. At the same time, I’ll ask my family to inquire if anyone is willing to sell their boat so we can buy another one.”
"Buy another boat?" Ah-Can nodded. "Sure, as long as it's not too big. We should have enough money from this period of time."
"I think any kind of boat will do, as long as it's in good condition, I can buy it. If you don't have enough money, I can lend it to you first."
"It's still far from certain. We'll discuss it together when the Harvest ship returns."
"Well, my brother should have no objection, but I don't know if my dad and your dad would be willing."
Ah-Can said uncertainly, "They should be happy to pay them their wages, right?"
"That depends on how much?" Feng Ye said with a smile. "More would definitely be fine, but less might not be."
"I don't believe they wouldn't be happy if they were paid 200 a month."
Ah-chan said confidently, expressing great confidence in this number.
Feng Ye joked, "Two hundred? You're really generous."
"One is your father, and the other is my father. What's wrong with being generous?"
“Okay, let’s give them 200 a month.” Feng Ye said with a smile, “I’m sorry to Uncle Jun.”
“Just find him two more people,” Ah-Can said nonchalantly. “I’m planning to have my uncle go to the Harvest Ship.”
"Your uncle?" Feng Ye nodded. "A good candidate, and an old fisherman too."
Ah-chan's uncle was a member of the fishing team during the old collective era and had extensive experience at sea.
Xiao Zhaojun should have no objection to letting him board the ship to replace Feng Jialing.
"Brother Ye, what about your side? Who are you planning to send?"
Feng Ye pondered for a moment but couldn't come up with a solution. He then spread his hands and said, "Let Uncle Jun find someone himself. I don't care anymore."
The Harvest ship would take six or seven days or more to sail, so the crew had to be of good character, otherwise accidents were likely to happen.
And preferably someone with some experience. He thought and thought but couldn't figure out who to call, so he simply gave up trying to figure it out.
As they chatted, Ah-Can suddenly said, "Brother Ye, I've noticed that while I've made a lot of money following you, the problem is that I can't save it. Every time I manage to save some money, you suddenly come up with an idea to spend it."
"Is there?"
"No? The first time was when Harvest invested, the second time was when they bought shops, and now they want to buy a ship."
"This money isn't just going down the drain; it's all become fixed assets, isn't it? Money is only money when it's spent; otherwise, it's just a pile of waste paper that you wouldn't even want to use to wipe your butt."
"I understand that principle, I'm just expressing my feelings."
"Hehe, you don't have to participate. Just watch me make money."
"That won't do. We share both the hardships and the joys. I can't let you enjoy wealth all by yourself."
Ah-Can replied with a smile, "Following you is troublesome, but also very exciting. I'm always incredibly happy when we split the money."
"Whatever makes you happy."
When the time was almost up, the two ended their conversation and went to the stern to collect the net.
The sun shone on them, and sweat glistened on their foreheads, but satisfied smiles appeared on their faces.
Several days have passed, and there has been no decent harvest.
But this net was quite good, a pleasant surprise.
"Wow, quite a lot of green tangerines, and they're pretty big too, probably weighing over 20 pounds each."
"Besides Qinghai and Gansu, didn't you find anything else good?"
"Anything else? I didn't see it."
"Behind the Qinghai and Gansu, I think I saw a croaker, and it was quite big."
