Chapter 4 The threshold to becoming a doctor

When the door opened, a neat and clean-cut woman with short hair was revealed. There was a mole on the left side of her chin, which was known as a beauty mole.

"Call your cousin quickly." Sun Rongfang glanced at her daughter.

"Aunt." Xie Wanying said in a low voice.

"Come in." Zhou Ruomei asked the mother and daughter to go into the house and went back to the living room first.

After Sun Rongfang brought her daughter in, she helped her cousin close the door.

"Remember to change into slippers." Zhou Ruomei reminded them.

After changing into the indoor slippers at the door, Sun Rongfang smiled at her cousin and said, "Your slippers are really beautiful."

Zhou Ruomei also smiled when she heard her cousin's praise: "They brought it back from abroad."

"Foreign slippers?" Sun Rongfang looked closely at what she was wearing on her feet.

...

...

"Mom, come in and sit down." Xie Wanying pulled her mother.

Sun Rongfang didn't think it was a big deal, instead she took the opportunity to educate her daughter: "Learn from your aunt, and let her give you foreign things for free in the future."

Zhou Ruomei laughed non-stop. When she asked them to sit down, she said to her cousin, "Take the teapot under the tea table. Come and drink whatever you want. I have all kinds of tea here, including foreign black tea, domestic Tieguanyin, West Lake Longjing, everything. You can choose whatever you want."

Upon hearing what her cousin said, Sun Rongfang was extremely happy. She picked up a kettle and hurried to the sink to fetch water and boil it, preparing to make tea.

Xie Wanying found a small stool to sit on, holding her schoolbag on her knees.

Zhou Ruomei on the opposite side secretly examined her facial features.

Sun Rongfang came back with the kettle filled with water and asked her cousin, "Where's your husband?"

"He is reading in the room." Zhou Ruomei said.

Sun Rongfang made a request: "I want Yingying to ask your husband for advice. Yingying said she wants to become a surgeon."

"Surgery?" Zhou Ruomei seemed to be shocked. "She wants to study medicine?"

"Yes. Didn't I tell you on the phone? When Yingying graduates, help her find a way to stay in your hospital."

"It's hard to keep people in our hospital now. Doctors' academic qualifications are improving these days. In our hospital, in two years, we won't accept people with bachelor's degrees anymore. We'll only accept people with master's degrees or above. I'm afraid she won't be able to keep up."

When Sun Rongfang heard her cousin say this, she became anxious: "Can't you introduce Yingying to someone in your hospital?"

"No way. If you have the ability, you can become a relative of the dean. But the son of our hospital dean has already married and has children, so there is no chance for you." Zhou Ruomei said happily.

Sun Rongfang was so worried that she said, "Cousin, are you really at a loss?"

"There is a way. Unless Yingying gets into our hospital by herself." Zhou Ruomei said lightly, "Let's wait until Yingying gets in. There's no rush. I don't know how her college entrance examination results will be."

"Her teacher said that her grades are pretty good. She ranked among the top 100 in the city in all three city mock exams."

"What's the point of being among the best in the city? My son took the entrance exam for Zhongshan Medical College and was admitted to the clinical medicine class, among the top 300 in the province. If Yingying wants to study medicine, don't study if it's not Zhongshan Medical College in the province. It's useless to study it. People will think you are incompetent. The first-class hospitals in the province recruit students who graduated from Zhongshan Medical College. Do you want your daughter to go to the county town to be a health worker in a health center?"

Sun Rongfang was dumbfounded after hearing these words: If that’s the case, will her daughter still take the medical exam?

"The lowest score for admission to the Department of Clinical Medicine at Zhongshan Medical University last year was among the top 2,000 students in the province. Your Yingying would definitely not be able to get in," Zhou Ruomei concluded.

"So, cousin, your daughter is because--"
