Chapter 23 Bribing the Third Brother to Negotiate Compensation

An hour later, the third brother went upstairs, the hundred-yuan bill in his bag still warm.

Only Song Xinfu was in the ward; his mother was gone.

Song Xinfu caught a glimpse of the third brother out of the corner of his eye and told him to get in.

What are you standing there for?

Song Anmin slowly went inside, and the old woman in the next bed glanced at him.

Yesterday, when we first met, I thought Song Anmin was tall and handsome, but I didn't expect him to be such a spineless coward. The old lady clicked her tongue twice and rolled her eyes at Song Anmin.

Song Anmin: "..."

Song Yingying woke up again, "Third Brother."

Song Anmin: "How are you feeling, Yingying? Is it still in pain?"

Song Yingying's expression was a little strange. "Third Brother, do you think it hurts?"

Song Anmin coughed twice and then asked Song Xinfu, "Dad, where's Mom?"

Song Xinfu was annoyed by Song Anmin's awful appearance.

“Your mom went back to make chicken soup for Yingying. She couldn’t find you for a while. She was exhausted after keeping watch all night.”

Song Anmin quickly said, "Dad, I'll continue tonight. You and Mom should go back and rest."

Having raised his six children from infancy to adulthood, Song Xinfu knew them at least to a great extent, if not completely.

He picked up the clothesline pole and started hitting the third brother.

"You little brat, get out of here! Go back to work, we don't need you here."

Song Anmin gasped, "Dad, I stayed up all night last night, and you still want me to go to work?!"

"What were you doing staying with your mother at the hospital? All you did was upset her in the middle of the night. If you don't go to work, how will you earn money and pay for your living expenses?"

The third brother was heartbroken.

True heartbreak isn't about making a scene.

He went to the balcony to smoke, determined to do something big to get his parents' approval and understanding.

After lunch, while Song Xinfu was in the restroom, the third brother started persuading him again:

“Dad, that’s 25,000! 25,000 is enough to buy dozens of houses. Yingying will never have to worry about food and drink in the future. We can also do justice to our aunt in the afterlife.”

Song Xinfu was the eldest son, with a second younger brother and a younger sister, Song Qiurou, who died young.

Song Xinfu was seven years older than Song Qiurou.

When Song Qiurou was sent to the countryside, she became pregnant out of wedlock. After she was transferred back to the city, she discovered that she was pregnant. She refused to reveal who the man was. The Song family valued their reputation, so the old man had no choice but to send his youngest daughter to the countryside to have her pregnancy.

To the outside world, they said that the man was Song Qiurou's husband when she went to the countryside, but he had already died of illness, and her in-laws were being unreasonable and had sent Song Qiurou back to her parents' home.

Song Qiurou gave birth in the countryside, but died from a difficult labor and severe bleeding, leaving behind a daughter, Song Yingying.

Song Xinfu was the eldest son. He was heartbroken by the death of Song Qiurou and couldn't bear to leave his newborn daughter, Song Yingying, to be raised in the countryside. Xu Guiying couldn't stand it either. At that time, the couple had stable jobs, and it was just a matter of having an extra pair of chopsticks. They could tighten their belts and make ends meet. So they took Song Yingying home.

Thinking of the deceased Song Qiurou, Song Xinfu was immediately overcome with sadness.

The third brother was at a loss for words, unable to persuade or advise, and his mouth hung open as if he wanted to slap himself.

Sure enough, the next second, Song Xinfu started wiping away tears.

If the third brother were to bring up a letter of understanding now, he estimated that Song Xinfu would throw him off the building.

In the afternoon, Xu Guiying brought chicken soup, carrying two large insulated containers, and also brought Song Yingying a change of clothes.

I've been so busy all this time that I haven't had a chance to visit Qin Zheng yet.

The elderly couple carried the insulated food container upstairs to the ward. Qin Zheng was staying in a private room, and there were two bodyguards guarding the door.

Xu Guiying explained her purpose, and after the bodyguard went in and spoke to Qin Baohua and Qin Zheng, the elderly couple went in as well.

The private ward was quite large. Qin Zheng's head was wrapped in gauze, but he was a very handsome child.

Tall and thin, with fair skin.

Xu Guiying: "This is chicken soup, to nourish the child's body."

Qin Zheng's voice was indifferent. "Thank you."

Qin Zheng didn't want to say much. Qin Baohua was concerned about Song Yingying's health. The room was unusually quiet. Xu Guiying felt that her voice echoed. After exchanging a few pleasantries, she pulled Song Xinfu downstairs.

Xu Guiying muttered to herself, wondering what kind of background the Qin family had.

Song Xinfu was also seeing this for the first time and shook his head: "Your family must be officials."

-

Song Xinfu was on night watch, but the third son refused to go home and wanted to continue to talk to his father.

Xu Guiying and her husband do have this kind of tacit understanding.

No matter how eloquent the third brother was, he couldn't persuade him.

That evening, Xu Guiying returned to the Song family home.

The eldest son and his wife already knew about Song Yingying's situation. They didn't know the details, let alone the compensation, they only heard that a blond-haired guy had injured Song Yingying.

He's just a young punk, how could he afford to pay any compensation?

I never visited Song Yingying in the hospital.

Liu Aimei still resented Xu Guiying, feeling that Xu Guiying didn't give face to the eldest son's family. Most importantly, she felt that Xu Guiying hadn't apologized to her, which made Liu Aimei very unhappy.

Moreover, since Song Yingying was beaten, her family would probably have to pay for her medical expenses and food, which would definitely be deducted from the 490 yuan she had just paid. The more Liu Aimei thought about it, the angrier she became.

The family sat around the table in the main room for dinner.

The second brother and Song Rongrong were still worried about Song Yingying and wanted to go see their younger sister after dinner.

"Your dad's here, what's the rush? Take turns, don't ruin your health."

Liu Aimei secretly rolled her eyes, then said to Xu Guiying:

“Mom, it’s not that Guomin and I don’t want to visit our little sister, it’s just that we’re busy with work and taking care of the kids. We simply don’t have the energy to go to the hospital. Besides, hospitals are so dirty. What if we bring back an infectious disease and pass it on to the two kids? Wouldn’t that be a huge loss?”

Xu Guiying put down her bowl and looked at Liu Aimei.
