Chapter 263 Wedding Date

The purpose of this dinner with the Qian family was twofold: first, to get to know both families, and second, to discuss the young couple's marriage.

When Song Guomin married Liu Aimei, he gave Liu Aimei a bride price of 700 yuan.

Now that their second son is married, Xu Guiying and Song Xinfu are discussing giving him 800 yuan as start-up capital for the newlyweds.

However, this money is for the young couple, that is, for their use.

The Qian family was shocked when they heard that it was 800 yuan, especially Qian Yu'an's sister-in-law, Lin Ling, whose smile froze.

When Qian Shurong and Lin Ling got married, the dowry consisted of only some furniture and cabinets. Now that his younger sister is getting married, the groom is very wealthy and asks for 800 yuan right off the bat.

Xu Guiying said that all the children in the family should be treated equally.

The second son has had a tough time these past few years, and it hasn't been easy for Qian Yu'an to be with him either.

As long as the young couple lives a good life after marriage, that's all that matters.

Since the Song family had said so, the Qian family couldn't say anything more. They had shown such sincerity. Grandma Qian felt complicated, but she also felt lucky for Qian Yu'an.

Grandpa Song has already consulted someone to choose an auspicious date.

Three dates were chosen.

June 18th.

August 9th.

October 28th.

June 18th is the closest date, less than two months ago.

Song Yangmin prefers June 18th, when Qian Yu'an will be on summer vacation and Song Yangmin will have more time. He expects to return to work in early August.

Halfway through the conversation, Xu Songyuan, who had just taken a break from his work, also came in.

Finally, it was decided that the wedding would be held on June 18th.

After a lively meal in the private room, the Qian family went home.

They took a bus back, and were on their way back to Biandan Village after getting off the bus.

Lin Ling couldn't help but say sourly, "Eight hundred yuan, I've never seen so much money in my life. Little sister is so lucky, she married a good man and her in-laws treat her well."

Grandma Qian's expression changed.

Qian Shurong tugged at Lin Ling.

"What nonsense are you talking about! When Song Yangmin was sick, it was my younger sister who accompanied him until he recovered. No other woman would have been willing to do that. This is what my younger sister deserves."

Qian Mingyuan and Bai Hui glanced at Qian Shurong.

Qian Shurong's face showed shame.

Three elders of the Qian family led Tao Tao ahead.

Qian Shurong and his wife followed behind, and only after the people in front had gone far away did Qian Shurong lower his voice:

"Lin Ling, let me tell you, Yu An's dowry is her own, and no one else can even think about it! Also, Yu An has been working outside for the past few years, and every time she comes back, she buys food and clothes for Tao Tao. After she gets married, whatever she does is her own business, so don't gossip!"

Lin Ling was only a little jealous, but after Qian Shurong pointed it out, she felt ashamed.

"I was just saying a few words offhand, why are you all making such a fuss? Look at the expressions on Mom, Dad, and Grandma's faces just now, I didn't even say it in front of Yu'an!"

"It's good that you know." Qian Shurong softened his expression and said, "Yu'an has been sensible since he was a child and helps with the family work. Everyone has their own destiny. We are all healthy and our family members have not held us back. We are already much better off than other families. People should be content."

Qian Shurong was a good student when he was young, but his family couldn't afford to send him to middle school, so he went back home to farm. Qian Mingyuan and his wife felt that they had let their eldest son down.

Later, when Qian Yu'an grew up, the family had some extra money, and Qian Shurong was able to earn money himself, which enabled the two siblings to study together. Qian Shurong gave his share to Qian Yu'an, allowing Qian Yu'an to continue her studies until high school.

After failing the college entrance examination, Qian Yu'an worked in the city while preparing for the exam a second time. Whenever he had spare money, he would give it to Bai Hui.

Bai Hui would occasionally give Qian Shurong and his wife some financial assistance.

Lin Ling muttered, "If you hadn't given up your chance to study to Qian Yu'an, we would be living in the city now."

Qian Shurong didn't expect Lin Ling to keep talking. He said with a straight face, "Yeah, I can study too, but can I pass the exam? Yu'an took the exam twice, so how could I? If you're that good, you go to school, I'll support you, go to university!"

Lin Ling stomped her foot.

"You're just arguing nonsense!"

"I can't be bothered to talk to you!"

Qian Shurong strode forward and caught up with the Qian family members ahead.

After Lin Ling finished speaking, she felt embarrassed, so she just complained a few times and didn't actually do anything.

After returning to the Qian family home, Bai Hui went to cut grass to feed the pigs, while Qian Mingyuan was repairing the door frame. No one paid any attention to Lin Ling.

Lin Ling sulked alone in her room.

Qian Shurong returned from collecting his wages from the team. It was for the money he earned last month for cutting down trees for others. He was paid monthly, and last month he received a total of eighteen yuan.

Qian Shurong gave Lin Ling five yuan, and put the remaining thirteen yuan in the iron box, which was then locked.

Lin Ling: "Why would I want money from you? I don't want it."

Qian Shurong: "Didn't you want to get a new outfit?"

Qian Shurong earns his living by doing manual labor, and he doesn't have work every month. Lin Ling feels sorry for him, so she is very frugal with her money and saves all the rest. They have been married for several years, and she has only saved less than two hundred yuan.

Lin Ling put the money into the tin box with a dark expression.

"Buy what? I'm not buying anything!"

Qian Shurong: "..."

Lin Ling continued, "Qian Shurong, why don't you find another job? Cutting down trees is too tiring, and carrying them is exhausting. What if you fall from a tree? Learn something easier, like Song Yangmin's uncle. He's a great cook, and he started from a street stall. Now he owns a restaurant. Anyway, he has some extra money now. Or you could go back to high school and go to university..."

Qian Shurong interrupted her, "I know, I'm thinking about it too."

Lin Ling: "I'm being serious. Think about it. Song Yangmin is a military officer, and Yu'an is a college student. They live in the city, and their lives will only get better and better. As for us, I'll farm the land, and you'll cut down trees. We'll just be stuck with that little bit of money every day. When the environment is different, people tend to change. The gap between us and Yu'an will only widen in the future. I wonder how you, as the brother-in-law, will get along with the Song family in the future."
