Xu Guiying was just expressing her feelings suddenly.
She immediately put on a stern face and dragged Song Anmin back in the direction of the casino.
That tattooed youth is no longer here.
Song Anmin had a bad feeling. He asked in a trembling voice, "Mom, why did you bring me here?"
Xu Guiying looked disgusted. "I'll send you to be sold. I can't afford to raise a son like you."
Seeing his mother's serious expression, Song Anmin didn't take her words as a joke. "Mom, are you serious?"
Xu Guiying sneered and dragged Song Anmin to the corner behind the small door.
It's impossible for this place not to have people forcing people to repay gambling debts.
Xu Guiying waited patiently, while Song Anmin dared not speak, fearing he would be beaten.
Half an hour later, a middle-aged man came out of the courtyard of the casino and suddenly fell to the ground. Immediately afterwards, two burly men came out and started beating him with sticks.
"I can't even pay back the 500 yuan I owe. I have money to gamble, but I don't have money to pay back the money."
"Third brother, you keep him calm, I'll chop off his hand."
"OK."
The middle-aged man was so frightened that he wet himself. "I'll go back right away. I'll bring the money tonight. I still have money at home. Please, please don't cut off my hand!"
"Are you sure you can pay me back tonight?"
"Yes, yes."
"You said this yesterday: cut off a finger first. If you don't see the money by midnight tonight, this is the hand you'll lose."
"I already said I'd pay you tonight, don't cut off my finger—"
ah!
Screams rang out, and the smell of blood filled the air.
The two men in the casino picked up their fingers and went back to the courtyard, leaving the middle-aged man lying on the ground like a dead dog.
Xu Guiying was still shaken by what she saw; in her previous life, Song Anmin had beaten her much worse.
He lost three fingers, his hands and feet were broken, and he even had one kidney removed.
Song Anmin's gaze met that of the middle-aged man. His face turned deathly pale, and his teeth chattered. "Mom..."
Xu Guiying looked coldly at Song Anmin.
Still want to gamble?
Song Anmin's teeth chattered, and he couldn't speak.
Xu Guiying slapped Song Anmin across the face, but this time the force was not great.
"Do you still dare?"
"...I wouldn't dare."
Xu Guiying pointed at the middle-aged man, "This is what will happen to you. You can't even understand what it's like to study, yet you think you can win money gambling? You couldn't even get into university, and you think you're so lucky?"
Song Anmin: "Mom, you're exaggerating..."
The middle-aged man got up from the ground, not even glancing at Song Anmin and Xu Guiying, and muttered:
"I may lose this time, but I'm sure I'll win tomorrow. I'm definitely going to win."
Xu Guiying twisted Song Anmin's ear and said, "See? This is the gambler's mentality."
Song Anmin swallowed hard.
"Mom, let's go back."
Xu Guiying sneered, "What's the panic? We haven't finished reading yet!"
Over the next hour, people kept going in and coming out.
Two more people were beaten.
The first one had his foot chopped off.
The second one was beaten up and all his teeth were pulled out.
Xu Guiying frowned deeply as she watched, and then took Song Anmin away. Song Anmin's legs went weak when he got home.
Xu Guiying rode her bicycle back home, with Song Anmin on the back.
Back at the Song family home, Song Anmin was still shaken. He sat on the bed in his room, motionless.
When the second son came back and saw that the third son looked strange, he threw a pillow at him.
"Song Anmin?"
"Second brother, what are you doing?"
The second son's lips twitched when he saw the red mark on Song Anmin's face; he guessed that his mother had hit him again.
The second son was too lazy to ask anymore; it was his turn to cook today, so he went to the kitchen.
The family gathered for dinner that evening, and the third brother was unusually silent. Song Yingying even asked him a few questions.
Song Anmin remained silent, as if he were in a daze.
Song Xinfu glanced at his third son, and only after finishing his meal did he ask Xu Guiying what had happened.
Xu Guiying told him everything that had happened that day.
“Baoguo Temple is truly efficacious. I just paid my respects and I saw the third brother.”
Song Xinfu's face was as black as the bottom of a pot, and he got up to leave.
Xu Guiying quickly stopped him, "Don't look for him yet, why don't we send the third son to the countryside?"
Whether Song Anmin can make money or not is no longer important; the most important thing is to correct Lao San's character.
Song Xinfu smiled bitterly, "Except for the second son, none of my sons are any good."
Xu Guiying also fell silent.
On the way back to Heping Lane in the afternoon, Xu Guiying kept thinking about whether she should send her third son to his grandparents. There used to be a gambler in the countryside whose leg was slashed and he now only has one leg left. His wife and children are separated from him, and he has to make a living by doing farm work at home.
Send the third son to the countryside for some reformation; his grandparents can keep an eye on him.
Upon hearing this, Song Xinfu thought it was a good idea.
"Let's go tomorrow!"
"Okay, I'll ask for a day off tomorrow."
The next morning, Song Xinfu and Xu Guiying took turns going to their workplaces to ask for leave, leaving one of them at home to look after their third child.
"Mom, are you going to send me to the countryside?"
Xu Guiying nodded and found a cloth bag to pack all of Lao San's clothes.
Song Anmin asked incredulously, "Then what am I supposed to do at work?"
Xu Guiying: "Your dad went to ask for leave for you."
Song Anmin refused to leave, becoming agitated like a dog whose tail had been stepped on.
"I already said I won't gamble!"
Xu Guiying looked at the third son and spoke earnestly:
“Song Anmin, you’re just afraid now. You haven’t let go of your worries. Your father and I are also responsible for how you’ve turned out. We didn’t care enough about you before, but now that we’ve realized it, we need to stop the damage and correct it in time. Go stay with your grandparents for two months. Your father and I will come to see you every week.”
