On the way to the police station, the kid cursed and begged for mercy, saying that he would never let Song Anmin off the hook when he got out.
Song Anmin patted the kid on the head.
"Do you think I'm easily scared? You still want to get out? Whether you can even get out is a question. Let's see if you'll still be so stubborn in front of the police."
The girl whose bag was snatched is named Chu Shuzhen. She is a high school teacher and lives in the alley past Heping Lane. This alley used to be very safe, but she was robbed tonight.
Chu Shuzhen expressed his gratitude to Song Anmin throughout the journey.
When they arrived at the police station, Wang Ya stood up, raised an eyebrow at them, and asked, "What now?"
Song Anmin: "This thief stole Teacher Chu's bag, and I caught him."
Wang Ya nodded, indicating that she understood. The police took the thief away for questioning. Wang Ya asked Chu Shuzhen to show his identification first, while she and Song Anmin stayed behind to give their statements.
Seeing that Chu Shuzhen was still in shock, Wang Ya comforted her, "Today is New Year's Eve, the New Year is almost here, those people are waiting for this night. Many of them are on the road after receiving their wages. Be careful when you go out in the future, our police station will also patrol accordingly."
Chu Shuzhen: "Thank you, officer. If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."
Wang Ya nodded.
Chu Shuzhen thanked Song Anmin profusely again and asked if there was anything he could do for Song Anmin. Song Anmin thought for a moment and said, "You're a high school teacher, right?"
Chu Shuzhen hummed in agreement; she had only been on the job for a little over six months.
Song Anmin coughed lightly, glanced at Wang Ya, and pulled Chu Shuzhen to a corner. "Um... I want to prepare for the college entrance examination. Could you please make a list of books for me to read? I can buy them myself."
Chu Shuzhen was astonished. She had thirty yuan in her bag, which she thought would be enough for Comrade Song Anmin's thank-you fee.
Chu Shuzhen: "Okay, I'll prepare it for you. Here's what I'll do: I'll hand it over to the police station the day after tomorrow, and you can come and pick it up then."
Song Anmin thought to himself that if Wang Ya found out, she would definitely laugh at him again. But it would be too much trouble for Chu Shuzhen to send it to Heping Lane. It would be too presumptuous for him to go to Chu Shuzhen's house. Oh well, the police station it is, it's a conspicuous place.
"Okay, thank you for your help."
Chu Shuzhen smiled and said, "This is nothing, it's a perfect match for my major."
Chu Shuzhen still feels a chill when she thinks about it now. What if she had actually caught up with him and that little thief had gotten into bad intentions?
After Chu Shuzhen left, Song Anmin plopped down on a bench. The police station was quiet, and Wang Ya was talking to the police officers inside.
Song Anmin glanced at Wang Ya and saw her enter the corridor and quickly change into casual clothes before coming out.
Wang Ya asked in surprise, "You haven't left yet? Isn't today New Year's Eve? Aren't you going home?"
Song Anmin: "I have nowhere to go. I've already had dinner. Are you going home?"
Wang Ya: "Let's go to the night market and get something to eat first."
This time it was Song Anmin's turn to be shocked. "It's not even ten o'clock yet, aren't you going home for New Year's Eve dinner?"
Wang Ya's expression froze. "Yes, they're not home."
Song Anmin opened his mouth, looking hesitant. His own daughter was a police officer serving the people, yet she wasn't even invited to stay for the New Year's Eve dinner.
Song Anmin: "Let's go to the night market together, I'm hungry too."
Wang Ya zipped up her down jacket and casually said, "Let's go, I'm starving. What were you talking about with Chu Shuzhen just now?"
Song Anmin sighed, thinking that Wang Ya was also in a pretty bad situation and that this might make her laugh at him, so he said, "Isn't she a high school teacher? I asked her to help me make a reading list, and I'll go buy the textbooks later."
Wang Ya looked shocked. "You're preparing for the college entrance exam?"
The police station was close to Heping Lane, and the Song family members went to the police station every few days. Everyone at the police station knew about the Song family's sons.
That's outrageous, absolutely outrageous.
Now...
Wang Ya looked Song Anmin up and down, then burst out laughing. "Song Anmin, good luck!"
Song Anmin pursed his lips, “…”
"Song Anmin, good luck on your exam! You'll definitely pass!"
Song Anmin: "Wang Ya, what's with that expression? Explain yourself! Preparing for the college entrance exam is a perfectly normal thing, isn't it? And you're laughing at me! What kind of police officer are you? You should be caring for and encouraging hardworking and studious ordinary citizens like me!"
Wang Ya said innocently, "I was just encouraging you!"
"Then what are you laughing at?!"
Wang Ya suppressed a laugh, "How long have you been preparing? This year... no, did you start preparing last year?"
This year has only just begun.
Song Anmin hummed in agreement, "The second half of last year."
Wang Ya gave him a thumbs up. Wang Ya graduated from the Public Security University and was assigned to a police station after graduation.
The two bickered all the way to the night market. When they passed Phoenix Pavilion, it wasn't full, with three or four empty tables. Wang Ya heard Song Anmin sigh and looked over. "That kind of thing will definitely have an impact, but your shop has a lot of repeat customers, so it's expected to recover after the New Year."
Song Anmin couldn't help but ask, "Is there still no news about Tan Rongguo and that other person?"
Wang Ya: "Li Liancheng".
"Yeah, yeah, that son of a bitch. Neither of them is going home for the New Year. They're really cunning."
Wang Ya: "He's still hiding outside. Tan Rongguo's wife and children are still around, so they must be in contact in private. The net of justice is vast and its meshes are wide, but nothing escapes it; he'll eventually be caught."
Song Anmin turned his head to look at Wang Ya.
This girl has probably only been working for less than two years, and she still has a very optimistic attitude.
Song Anmin: "Barbecued skewers?"
Wang Ya: "Of course, we're here to eat barbecue skewers."
Song Anmin had already eaten; most of the skewers had gone into Wang Ya's stomach, and the egg in the fried rice had been eaten by Song Anmin. Last time, Song Anmin had given her money, but this time Wang Ya had paid for it. After eating and drinking her fill, she didn't feel cold anymore even though the cold wind was blowing. Wang Ya hunched her neck and said, "Bye-bye, Song Anmin."
