Zhang Shu's parents' home is more than a 30-minute walk from Heping Lane.
Song Rongrong suddenly remembered that she needed to buy a book, so she didn't take the bus and decided to walk back.
She bought a foreign language book on advertising, which cost her quite a bit of money. Song Rongrong felt a pang of regret as she packed the book, then slung her bag over her shoulder and left the bookstore to continue walking.
Suddenly, Song Rongrong stopped and looked back.
People were coming and going on the street; some were walking, some were riding bicycles, and some were ringing their bells to tell Song Rongrong to get out of the way and not block the road.
Song Rongrong glanced at it and felt something was off.
She continued walking forward, keeping her eyes constantly on both sides, and clutching her bag tightly.
As they approached Aiguo Street, Song Rongrong turned around and looked back again.
There's still nothing there.
She squinted and walked quickly toward home.
"Song Rongrong!"
Suddenly, a voice came from ahead.
Song Rongrong looked closely and was surprised to see Kong Bowen there.
"Kong Bowen, what are you doing here?"
Kong Bowen asked in surprise, "Didn't you leave work long ago?"
Song Rongrong: "Producer Jiang and I took Shushu home."
Kong Bowen said "Oh," and then remembered that there was indeed such a thing.
He sighed, frowned, and said, "Didn't I tell you at noon that there was another case of a woman living alone going missing? Our department is investigating it too. Sigh, the boss wants firsthand information, so I came over to take a look."
Song Rongrong couldn't help but frown. "You mean it's around here?"
Kong Bowen: "No, it's three intersections west of Aiguo Street. I just happened to be passing by and wanted to buy some pastries to take home."
After she finished speaking, Song Rongrong said "Oh," and couldn't help but turn her head to look back again.
Kong Bowen asked in surprise, "What's wrong with you?"
Song Rongrong muttered, "When I came over just now, I had a feeling that someone was following me."
Kong Bowen: "I've heard that murderers often return to the crime scene to check the situation. Could it be that you are...?"
Song Rongrong: "No way, I can't be that unlucky."
Although Song Rongrong said that, she wasn't sure herself. She had just accompanied Zhang Shu on a trip. Could it be that the murderer had his eye on her? The man in the suit was busy running away; how could he possibly have time to keep an eye on her...?
unless!
There was more than one murderer!
Song Rongrong immediately turned her head away.
There was still nothing unusual.
Kong Bowen was a little frightened when he saw her like this. "Never mind, where do you live? I'll take you home."
Song Rongrong pointed ahead, "There's a police station just ahead on Aiguo Street. My home is near the police station. It'll be there in ten minutes."
Kong Bowen: "Never mind, I'll take you there myself."
Song Rongrong: Aren't you in a hurry to go home?
"I'm not in a hurry. I'll go buy some food after I drop you off."
Song Rongrong: "Just go to the front of the police station, I'll go back by myself."
"Let's go, let's go, time is of the essence."
After passing the police station, Kong Bowen was still worried and wanted to take Song Rongrong on her way. Just then, a familiar voice came from inside.
"Song Rongrong, what are you doing?"
Song Rongrong turned around and saw Song Anmin looking at her, then his gaze fell on Kong Bowen's face.
"Kong Bowen, this is my brother. He's taking me home. You can go home now."
Kong Bowen nodded and didn't say much more. "Okay, I'm leaving now. See you at work tomorrow."
Song Rongrong hummed in agreement.
Song Anmin nodded to Kong Bowen, then asked Song Rongrong, "Your colleague?"
Song Rongrong nodded and said, "Let's go home."
She waved to Kong Bowen again, "Bye-bye."
Kong Bowen turned and left.
Standing there, Song Anmin stared at Song Rongrong: "Something's wrong with you. What happened?"
Song Rongrong frowned and recounted what happened to Zhang Shu today and the chase after the murderer.
Song Anmin was dumbfounded, his mouth never closing.
Song Anmin clicked his tongue, "Song Rongrong, you're really bold! You actually chased after him. Do you think you could outrun him?"
Song Rongrong frowned. "There's strength in numbers, and my boss was there too, so we chased after them together."
"Was that your boss just now?"
"No, those are reporters. A similar incident happened recently. A woman living alone went missing, and the reporters were also investigating to get a story. The two cases might be related."
The two of them were standing outside the police station when Wang Ya called them from inside.
"Is there anything else?" Wang Ya asked, her gaze sweeping over the two men.
Song Rongrong carefully recounted her feelings from earlier, saying that she had a persistent feeling that someone was following her.
Wang Ya and the police officer next to her exchanged a glance. "Be extra careful when you go out these next few days. If anything seems unusual, come and tell us."
Song Rongrong is not a party involved in the case, and her words are just speculation without any actual evidence. It is impossible for the police to specifically send someone to follow her.
Song Rongrong nodded. "I understand."
Song Anmin's brows remained furrowed. "Let's go home first."
The brother and sister returned to Heping Lane. They were late today, and the Song family was all there. Song Rongrong went in first, and Song Anmin followed right behind her.
Grandpa Song was sitting under the eaves smoking when he saw Song Anmin come in. He laughed and said, "Little San, what brings you here?"
Song Anmin: "Grandpa, I've come here today on important business!"
"What important business is it?" Xu Guiying came out of the house. "If you don't name one or two people, I'll give you a piece of my mind right now."
Song Anmin shrank back, "Mom! It's really important, let Song Rongrong speak!"
Song Xinfu was washing dishes in the kitchen, while Grandma Song and Qian Yu'an were washing the twins' clothes. They both came out.
