Chapter 64 Jiang Hong: Song Anmin, you're so kind

After the police left, the old man took a nap.

The Song family ate first, then Sun Rong was taken away by the police. Sun Xiangxing and Jinzhu screamed and cried as if Sun Rong was about to be executed.

Not long after, the village committee secretary came in, pleading for Sun Rong and hoping that Lao Song would also write a letter of forgiveness.

Old Master Song's eyelids twitched, noticing that his expression was not good.

Song Xinfu quickly said, "Dad, you should get some sleep first."

Xu Guiying frowned and said, "Secretary Chen, Dad isn't feeling well right now. If you have anything to say, just tell us so as not to disturb his rest."

Secretary Chen gave an awkward smile.

"Then let's go outside and talk."

Secretary Chen meant that he hoped to write a letter of understanding, since they had been neighbors for so many years, living next to each other and seeing each other all the time.

It would be awkward if Sun Rong were really arrested.

Song Zhicheng, whose face bore a striking resemblance to Song Xinfu, frowned and said, "Secretary Chen, this isn't something we can just write down. Whether or not a sentence is handed down is up to the police. What does it have to do with us?"

Song Xinfu added, "The second brother is right. Sun Rong did indeed commit a crime. It's not like we can just decide not to arrest him."

Secretary Chen chuckled awkwardly, "Will writing a letter of understanding lead to a lighter sentence?"

Xu Guiying disagreed upon hearing this. Her eyes reddened. "Secretary Chen, you don't care if people aren't your family, right? We're over seventy years old. If Mom hadn't come out to find someone, who knows what would have happened to us now... Sigh, it's not that we're heartless, it's just that Sun Rong's actions are no different from premeditated murder!"

Jiang Qiang and his group, who were not far away, had been listening intently. Xu Guiying's words were pushing Sun Rong to his doom!

Sun Xiangxing pointed at Xu Guiying with a haughty look on her face, "What do you mean by premeditated murder! Xu Guiying, if you can't speak properly, then shut up!"

Xu Guiying took two big steps and slapped Sun Xiangxing's hand away. "Your brother killed someone, and you still have the nerve to nag me here? Not only have you not admitted your mistake, but you also act like it's perfectly normal!"

"So much blood was lost, Sun Rong could see it if he wasn't blind, and then he just left the old man there. What's the difference between that and taking his life?!"

"According to your family tradition, even if Sun Rong killed ten or twenty people outside, you would still praise him for killing them well!"

Sun Xiangxing's face turned red after being scolded by Xu Guiying.

"Shut up! That's not what I meant!"

Several nurses passing by frowned and looked at Sun Xiangxing.

Xu Guiying crossed her arms and said coldly, "It's no use saying anything now. Sun Rong has already been taken away. He pushed the old man down with his own hands. There's no faking it. It's just that your brother got greedy because the radish was good-looking. If anyone in the village builds a new house or buys a motorcycle, your brother will probably set it on fire in the middle of the night!"

Jinzhu was furious and wished she could tear Xu Guiying's mouth off.

"Shut up!"

Xu Guiying raised an eyebrow and sneered, "Birds of a feather flock together. Sun Rong was pulling up radishes from the field, how could you, Jinzhu, not know? But you, Sun Xiangxing, were kept in the dark?"

"Don't talk nonsense to me. We'll stick to the police report. Even if Sun Rong is executed, I'll still be happy!" Xu Guiying ignored the angry looks on Sun Xiangxing's face and said to Secretary Chen, "Secretary Chen, Sun Rong has definitely done this more than once. He's just retaliating against our family because radish prices are high this year. Who knows, he might have poisoned cabbages and mushrooms for someone before!"

Secretary Chen chuckled again, but couldn't say anything else.

Sun Rong was indeed suspected. A few years ago, a family in the village sold mushrooms well, while Sun Rong's mushrooms didn't grow. As a result, within two days, that family's mushrooms were sprayed with paraquat and couldn't be sold!

Some people say they saw Sun Rong in the vicinity, but there is no further evidence to prove that it was Sun Rong who did it.

Sun Xiangxing wouldn't allow Xu Guiying to slander her brother like that. Her face darkened, and she gritted her teeth, saying:

"You're talking nonsense! You have no evidence! My brother would never do such a thing!"

Xu Guiying scoffed, "What? I'm just making a reasonable guess. It's your brother's criminal record! You can't blame anyone else. If something happens in the village in the future, your two families will be the first to be suspected. Not only is Sun Rongxin bad, but you, Sun Xiangxing, Jinzhu, Jiang Qiang, and your daughter Jiang Hong are also good people?"

Xu Guiying kept talking, leaving Song Lao Er's three sons stunned.

Song Anmin listened in the ward for a long time, and couldn't help but open the door. As soon as he called out "Mom," Xu Guiying's hand landed on him.

"You little bastard, don't call me 'old lady'! I'm not your mother. I picked you up from under the bridge. Go jump in the river now and go back to your hometown. If you dare say another word of nonsense, I'll throw you out the window right now!"

Song Anmin's words of comfort stuck in his throat.

Song Xinfu glared at the third brother.

The third brother moved his lips, wondering if his parents thought he was so incapable of distinguishing right from wrong.

"I'm going to see Grandma."

Grandma Song's ward was on the ground floor. He walked down the stairs and had just reached the fourth floor when he unexpectedly ran into Jiang Hong, who was coming upstairs.

Jiang Hong looked haggard, her eyes red. "Song Anmin, what will happen if my uncle goes to jail?"

Song Anmin frowned. "There's nothing we can do about it."

Jiang Hong gritted her teeth and squeezed out tears, "Can you plead for us? My uncle knows he was wrong."

Song Anmin took a liking to Jiang Hong at first sight.

Even if he wanted to help, there was nothing he could do. His mother had slapped him several times in the past two days, and Song Anmin didn't dare to say another word.

Jiang Hong raised her small face and looked at Song Anmin.

"Song Anmin, I'm begging you."

Song Anmin had little contact with women; he spent most of his time with his mother, sisters-in-law, and younger sisters. Jiang Hong looked pitiful, quite different from the petty Liu Aimei, and not like the boisterous Song Rongrong.
