Chapter 9: Living Expenses

Song Guomin didn't know how his mother had become like this.

It's so late at night, it's impossible to let Liu Aimei take her two children back to her parents' home by herself.

Song Guomin was practically exploding with rage. "Mom, if you insist on being so forceful, Aimei will leave."

Xu Guiying got up and went back to her room.

"Do as you please."

It would be best if they all left. Once they're gone, only she and Song Xinfu will be left. The old couple can save some money and won't be so pitiful in their old age.

Many children bring blessings, many children bring blessings...

Xu Guiying doesn't believe it at all!

Relying on yourself is worse than relying on anyone else!

It would be better to have no offspring at all!

Outside, Song Guomin looked at Liu Aimei. The couple didn't know what to do. They were in a dilemma. His wife didn't come out to dissuade them. Did Liu Aimei really want to go back to her parents' home? She couldn't bring herself to do it!

Song Guomin said with a dark face, "I'll take you to a hotel tonight to make do."

Liu Aimei: "What about tomorrow?"

Song Guomin frowned. "I'll find out what Mom thinks tomorrow."

Liu Aimei: "Anyway, we can't get extra living expenses. That's our own money, why should we give it to her?!"

The couple left with their two children.

-

When Song Xinfu entered the room, he saw Xu Guiying wiping away tears as she shook her shoulders.

"Old woman, the children have become like this. If we can fix them, we will; if not, then so be it."

At least the second son and Song Yingying are still doing well.

Xu Guiying wiped away her tears and asked, "Has the third brother returned yet?"

"not yet."

As if on cue, a faint noise came from the courtyard.

First came Song Yingying's voice, "Third Brother, why are you so late?"

The third child told her to keep her voice down, "Where are Mom and Dad?"

"My uncle and aunt just went inside. Oh, by the way, third brother, my aunt said that from now on, everyone living at home will have to pay for living expenses and do housework."

The third brother's eyes widened, "Living expenses? How much?"

"You have 6 yuan."

Song Anmin earns 24.8 yuan a month, so spending 6 yuan on living expenses is manageable. The most important thing is to resolve this immediate issue first.

Song Anmin entered the main room with a strong sense of unease, and as soon as he entered, he saw his mother standing at the door of her room with a clothes hanger.

Song Anmin's scalp tingled: "Mom..."

Xu Guiying: "Don't call me Mom, I don't have a son like you."

Song Anmin still tried to put on a cheeky smile and say, "Mom, what are you saying? I'm your son in this life, and I'll still be your son in the next."

Song Xinfu came out of the house and came to Song Anmin. Before the third son could react, his father slapped him across the face.

With a snap—

The second son rushed out of the house.

"Dad, what's wrong now?" the second son quickly stopped him.

Song Anmin shouted, "Dad, why did you hit me? Will you two ever shut up?!"

It was late at night in Heping Lane, but the commotion caused by the Song family drew the attention of several nearby households.

"What's wrong with the Song family these past few days? They've been arguing every night."

"It's all because of what happened with the fifth brother. I bet all the brothers got a scolding."

"Song Jianmin is really outrageous."

-

Song Xinfu's face was dark. When his third son was a child, he was very well-behaved. Every day after school, he would help Xu Guiying prepare vegetables, sweep the floor, and take care of Song Rongrong and Yingying. How did he become like this now?

Seeing his father staring at him without saying a word, Song Anmin felt uneasy. "Dad, please say what you want to say."

Xu Guiying told her second son to go inside, "Go to sleep. What are you doing standing outside?"

Only the eldest son in the family is married.

The remaining three brothers lived in one room with three beds.

Song Xinfu stared at Song Anmin with his dark face, "You heartless bastard, is your business really that good? You even cheated your grandparents out of their retirement money, you are a real beast."

Song Anmin glanced at Song Xinfu, then at Xu Guiying, and couldn't help but defend himself.

"I will pay my grandparents back first when I make money in the future. It's a big business that requires capital. I'm not a reckless person, Mom and Dad."

Not the type to mess around?

After losing money and being admitted to the intensive care unit, the elderly couple were forced to sell their house. Without a place to live, they had to take care of Song Yingying's daughter with cerebral palsy, renting a place and doing odd jobs while receiving medical treatment.

Song Anmin is no easy task!

Xu Guiying told Song Xinfu to sit down and catch his breath, lest he faint from not being able to catch his breath.

Xu Guiying looked at Song Anmin and said, "This money has already been returned to your grandparents. If you insist on doing business, then do it yourself. You are no longer my and your father's son. Even if you are capable, we can't control you."

Upon hearing this, Song Anmin stood there, at a loss for what to do.

"Mom, it's not like I just took Grandpa and Grandma's savings book. There's no need to make such a big deal out of it and kick me out of the house."

Song Anmin couldn't understand it; he hadn't committed any unforgivable crime.

“Taking the bankbook? You’re just cheating your grandparents out of their money! Don’t try to make it sound so simple. Stealing is stealing! If you want to do business, go and make your own money.”

Song Anmin felt that his parents were extremely biased. "Mom and Dad, you fully supported my older brother when he went to university. When he wanted to buy a house, you offered to sell your job. Why is it that when it comes to me, I can't do anything? How can you be so biased!"

Song Anmin spoke the last sentence softly, his face showing a fear of being beaten.

Xu Guiying sneered: "Your older brother is studying to do something worthwhile. If you could get into university, we would support your studies too. Who knew you would be such a troublemaker? And who told you that I was going to sell my job?"
