Chapter 4 Organizing the Household Food Reserves 2

As Qiao An'an was pondering, her attention was drawn to the sound of splashing water.

Of the five crucian carp she had put in the basin that morning, one of them actually jumped out of the water.

It was desperately pounding the tiled floor with its large tail.

Qiao An'an quickly picked up the crucian carp from the ground and put it back into the water basin.

When releasing the fish, Qiao An'an noticed that three of the five crucian carp had bulging bellies, which must have been females.

Looking at the swimming pool in the yard that hadn't been used since it was built, Qiao An'an suddenly had a whimsical thought: if... these crucian carp could give birth to babies, wouldn't that mean she could finally have fish to eat freely in the future?

Then you won't have to worry about running out of meat after eating pork.

Qiao An'an put the crucian carp into the pool filled with water in the yard. The crucian carp regained its freedom and swam quickly to the bottom of the pool.

You definitely need to feed fish.

But now she only has two bags of rice left, which she needs to keep for two or three years. It's not enough for her. If she gives it to the fish, they might die instead of spawning. Wouldn't she end up with neither rice nor fish?

Just as Qiao An'an was debating whether or not to feed the fish rice, she saw the fish gather on a pond wall covered with algae and begin to nibble on it.

Before long, a patch of algae on the pool wall was eaten away.

Surprisingly, the algae in the swimming pool that we used to clean every week turned out to be food for crucian carp.

After releasing the fish, Qiao An'an was worried that Ya Ya would wake up and cry because she couldn't see her, which would attract zombies, so she hurriedly went upstairs to the second floor.

Yaya was already awake. Although she was young, she was aware that she couldn't make a sound. She was quietly lying on the blanket building blocks. When she saw her mother coming over, she immediately waved her hands and went to hug her.

They look absolutely adorable.

Qiao An'an kissed Ya Ya's chubby little face before picking her up and taking her downstairs to the kitchen for dinner.

When she arrived at the kitchen, the last pot of pork chunks was cooked. Qiao An'an turned off the gas stove and waited for the pork chunks to cool down before dividing them into portions and putting them in the freezer.

The dough has risen almost completely.

Seeing that it was already dark outside, Qiao An'an decided to prepare Ya Ya's meal first, so she took the roasted ribs out of the oven.

Because the ribs were wrapped in aluminum foil, they didn't lose moisture during the roasting process. Once the foil was peeled off, the aroma of meat mixed with seasonings wafted out.

The ribs were roasted until they were both flavorful and tender; with a gentle pull, the entire bone would separate from the meat with its tendons.

Qiao An'an cut the boneless pork ribs into small pieces, put them in a bowl, and gave them to Ya Ya to eat.

The pork ribs were already fatty, and with the added spices, they smelled amazing. Ya Ya ate happily, praising Qiao An'an's cooking skills repeatedly: "The meat is so delicious, Mom is amazing, so awesome!!!"

While telling Ya Ya to eat slowly and not to burn herself, Qiao An'an took out some Shanghai bok choy from the refrigerator, intending to pick some to make a vegetable noodle dish for Ya Ya.

I was originally planning to make vegetable and egg noodles.

Considering the potential shortage of resources in the future, and since we already had roasted ribs for dinner tonight, which provided enough protein, we didn't touch the dozen or so free-range eggs in the cupboard.

While picking the vegetables, Qiao An'an suddenly had a thought: if she removed the outer leaves and left the heart and old roots, would new vegetables still grow?

Let's get right to it.

Qiao An'an first put some noodles into boiling water, and after the noodles were almost cooked, she put in the washed Shanghai bok choy leaves.

She then found a large bowl, added salt, soy sauce, and MSG, and scooped out a spoonful of freshly rendered lard. She then scooped the cooked noodles and vegetables into the bowl, poured the noodle soup and a little bit of aged vinegar over it, and gave it to Ya Ya to eat. When putting the bowl down, Qiao An'an reminded Ya Ya, "It's hot, eat the meat first, and then eat the noodles."

During these three months, Qiao An'an had to renovate the house, edit videos, and take care of Ya Ya's daily life.

Ya Ya felt sorry for her mother and was always very well-behaved and sensible: "Don't worry, Mom, Ya Ya can do it herself."

After preparing Ya Ya's dinner, Qiao An'an picked all the Shanghai bok choy, leaving only the roots and hearts. Not satisfied, she then took out the baby bok choy and did the same.

A total of fifty bok choy hearts with roots were obtained.

Do not eat the leaves that have been picked yet.

She carefully wrapped it in plastic wrap and put it back in the refrigerator.

She took the Shanghai bok choy roots and baby bok choy roots she had picked with the hearts still attached and went into the yard.

Apart from the artistic path paved with cement and pebbles, the yard features an ornamental lawn that costs 100 yuan per square meter and four wooden boxes containing newly planted seasonal roses.

The lawn and roses were both carefully selected by Qiao An'an.

Although I'm reluctant to part with it.

However, in order to ensure she would have vitamins in the future, Qiao An'an pulled out two boxes of roses. Although she pulled them out, she couldn't bear to throw them away and planted them in the open space under the fruit trees.

After planting the hearts of the Shanghai bok choy and baby bok choy separately in wooden boxes filled with nutrient soil, Qiao An'an carefully watered them again before returning to the kitchen.

When I got back, the dough had already risen, and there was a huge pile of it.

Fortunately, Qiao An'an's family had a lot of steamers. After washing her hands, she kneaded the dough into buns, boiled water on both gas stoves, and lit the earthen stove as well, using everything to steam buns.

After all the steamed buns were kneaded and placed in the steamer, Ya Ya was already full. Qiao An'an finished the remaining half bowl of noodles and half a plate of pork ribs, and that concluded tonight's dinner.

After finishing their meal, the steamed buns were ready. Because they were still very hot, Qiao An'an simply turned off the heat and didn't touch the buns. Instead, she led Ya Ya upstairs to wait for the buns to cool down before dividing them into portions.

The floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor offer a view of the street.

In the past, the area on the outskirts of the city was busiest after dinner.
