After tidying everything up, everyone took the tricycle and headed to the parking area.
As he passed the small courtyard of the bungalow where wheat was planted, Grandpa Gu glanced at the lush green wheat seedlings with some reluctance: "What a pity for this large field of wheat, it would have been ready for harvest in two more months."
Qiao An'an comforted Grandpa Gu, saying, "There's plenty of food at the new base. Besides, we're not going to stay here forever. When the wheat is ripe, we can just drive here to harvest it."
Grandpa Gu nodded: "That's the only way."
The small courtyard where Qiao An'an and the others used to live has been completely destroyed. Everything edible and usable inside has been looted by the masked men. The only things that weren't taken were the dozen or so fish and rapeseed in the pond. It's unclear whether the masked men didn't see them or simply didn't care about the fish.
As for rapeseed, they only needed to take other people's; there was no need for them to grow their own, so they didn't take any.
Qiao An'an found a plastic bucket and scooped all the fish into it.
Then he put all the rapeseed in the house into a bag.
After arriving on the road, Qiao An'an helped Ya Ya onto the minibus, sat in the driver's seat, and called Gu Bei and Ye Jing to get on the bus: "Get on, we're about to leave."
The RV belonged to Chi Ming, and he was most familiar with driving it, so he sat in the driver's seat.
After hearing about Chi Haoyu and Song Xing's situation, Grandpa Gu and Aunt Fang looked at Chi Ming with some wariness, fearing that Chi Ming might harm them because of their son. Aunt Fang even grabbed Nan Qiao's hand and said, "If something unexpected happens, I'll stand in front of you, you run!"
Li Jianguo followed Qiao An'an's order to keep a close eye on Chi Ming and pulled Chi Ming out of the driver's seat: "Why don't you let Fang Yuyang drive the RV? His mother, wife, and unborn child are all in the vehicle. He won't feel at ease if he doesn't have him with him."
Fang Yuyang wondered what was wrong with him?
Before he could even speak, Li Jianguo shoved him into the driver's seat.
After arranging for the RV driver, Li Jianguo, along with Chi Ming and Qin Chengguo, worked together to lift the entire tricycle onto the back of the truck.
Li Jianguo is a very straightforward person; he basically wears his likes and dislikes on his sleeve.
Because of this, he was often ridiculed by Qi Feng for being stupid without realizing it.
To show that he wasn't stupid at all, he suggested that Chi Ming drive, so that Chi Ming's hands would be on the steering wheel and he wouldn't be able to do anything bad.
As Chi Ming went to start the car, Li Jianguo quietly told Qin Chengguo about his clever move, his tone smug: "See? I'm smart, aren't I?"
Qin Chengguo was silent for a while: "Does this mean that you've entrusted the lives of the two of us, plus Dahei, to Chi Ming?"
Li Jianguo: “(⊙o⊙)…”
The three cars drove to the vicinity of the prison without any incidents.
Qiao An'an then told Li Jianguo to get out of the car and drive the van they had left on the slope.
Li Jianguo leaned closer to Qiao An'an and said, "Didn't you tell me to keep a close eye on Chi Ming?"
Qiao An'an explained to Li Jianguo, "Qin Chengguo is carrying Dahei, so it's inconvenient for him to drive. You drive, and let him see the car."
Li Jianguo walked toward the van with resentment. He had only been working on this task for less than half a day, and it was over just like that.
The four vehicles drove safely into the prison.
The children on the bus had never seen what a warden looked like before. Even though the entrance was crowded with zombies, the children still craned their necks to look around. Luckily, Qiao An'an had locked the windows beforehand; otherwise, if someone had carelessly opened a window, everyone on the bus would probably have perished there.
It was only after the car entered the second gate that it was truly safe. Qiao An'an finally relaxed. After parking the car, she slowly opened the door and said to the row of children behind her, "You can go out now."
The yard outside the prison is nearly the size of two football fields, equivalent to about twenty acres.
Since the apocalypse, these children have been kept in captivity. Although they can go to the yard, the area is limited. They have never seen such a spacious space before, and they excitedly ran around in the open space.
Gu Bei then pulled Ya Ya along to see the big black dog that Qin Chengguo was holding.
Only Ye Jing followed closely behind Qiao An'an.
After seeing Qiao An'an's car enter the yard, Chi Xiaoyu turned her gaze to the two cars behind it. Only after seeing Chi Ming get out of the truck did she pretend to be indifferent and look away.
Chi Ming, tears streaming down his face, held Chi Xiaoyu's hand tightly: "Your Aunt Wen is gone, Grandpa is gone too, and now even your brother is dead. Now your father only has you left..."
Young Chi Xiaoyu longed for her father's attention, because as long as her father paid attention to her, her mother would not scold her and would even buy her gifts and cook delicious food for her, which was unprecedented for her.
In order to get more attention from her father and make her mother happier, she studied knowledge that was extremely obscure and difficult for her age, practicing music, chess, calligraphy, painting, dance, horseback riding, archery, math, and Go day and night.
As her younger brother grew up, no matter how well she did in her exams or how many awards she won in competitions, her father could hardly look at her anymore. She became numb to her mother's constant insults, calling her "useless thing" and "money-losing brat."
Even though deep down she still longed for her father's love.
But repeated disappointments had robbed her of the courage to accept her father's love again. She pulled her hand away: "I remember during the final exams of the second semester of junior high, I only got second place in the class because of a fever. I was kicked out by my furious mother. When I came to you with a fever and my head was spinning, you told me that you had married Aunt Wen and that you, Aunt Wen, and her son were now a family. You told me not to bother you unless it was necessary."
