When the explosion occurred, all the zombies outside the courtyard ran towards the sound of the blast.
There are almost no zombies outside the small courtyard.
Qiao An'an put forward a bold idea: "Since the back yard has collapsed, can we take this opportunity to block the roads on both sides of the small yard so that we won't be afraid of them attacking from behind?"
The reason why Qiao An'an's small courtyard was not demolished.
It's because both her house and the house behind hers were built by cutting into the mountainside.
When the demolition community opposite was built later, the developer directly took soil from Qiao An'an's house, leaving deep pits of no less than ten meters on both sides of Qiao An'an's house.
Normally, this hole should be filled in.
The price of a truckload of soil was too high, and the developer didn't want to waste the money. In addition, there were already deep pits on both sides of the mountain, but the developer simply extended the pits on both sides a little bit towards the road.
The developer felt that leaving it unfilled wouldn't be a big deal, but since the developer dug the hole themselves, they would be held responsible if an accident occurred.
For safety reasons, the developer built a sturdy wall to block the road leading up the mountain to the left of the pit, and put up a prominent sign that read "Deep pit on the side, be careful".
This is reportedly a solution proposed by the developer's legal team.
According to the law, the developer has fulfilled its obligation to warn residents. If any homeowners still dare to run into the pit, that is their own business and has nothing to do with the developer.
The developer's original intention was to fence off both sides.
However, the residents of the community were unhappy and collectively went to the developer's gate to display banners, saying that according to the developer's original plan, there should have been a mountain park, but now it's all fenced off, what's the point? They firmly disagreed!
The developers, having been driven to desperation by the residents, could only build a pavilion on the hillside closest to the community, place some fitness equipment on the mountainside, and lay down steps, thus creating what they called a mountain park.
To prevent residents going up the mountain from accidentally falling into the large pit.
They also built a fence to prevent falls on the right side of Qiao An'an's small courtyard.
The pit outside the fence was so deep that even a zombie wouldn't be able to get out, let alone a person.
Blocking the space between the courtyard wall and the pit with stones can indeed keep out zombies.
Grandpa Gu Bei thought this method was feasible.
So they left Ya Ya and Da Hei to watch the house, while the rest of them went through the tunnel in the small courtyard to the back courtyard to move stones to block the road.
Grandpa Gu brought a sharp shovel himself, and also asked Qiao An'an and the others to bring the cement, sand and water left over from repairing the yard. He felt that even though the bluestone wall behind the yard was heavy and sturdy, it was still not safe enough without the support of cement.
Grandpa Gu first dug a foundation, then put in the mixed cement mortar, and then put in the bluestone slabs.
While the foundation was being dug, several zombies that hadn't been attracted by the explosion rushed towards the four people upon hearing the sound.
They used a bow and arrow carried on their backs to catch small fish, taking them down one by one with each arrow.
Qiao An'an then pulled out the boning knife she had taken from the supermarket and decapitated the fastest-running zombie.
Even Grandpa Gu Bei picked up a shovel and gave the zombie a powerful blow.
Qiao An'an gave Grandpa Gu Bei a thumbs up: "Grandpa is still going strong!"
The few zombies that remained on the road were quickly cleared away by the crowd.
The group continued building the wall.
The bluestone slabs were much wider than normal bricks, and it was difficult for Qiao An'an to carry one by herself. Chi Xiaoyu and Gu Bei, being younger, could only carry one together.
A bluestone slab is 30 cm wide and 50 cm long.
The backyard wall was built horizontally, but for safety reasons, Grandpa Gu Bei built it vertically, so that the wall was 50 centimeters thick, just like the small courtyard wall. Moreover, the wall was made of bluestone slabs, which was more solid than the red bricks of the small courtyard wall.
The guardrail is less than 2 meters away from Qiao An'an's yard.
There's no need for anyone to worry about not having enough bricks for the back wall.
The four of them quickly built the courtyard wall up to the height of a person. They then moved an old table from the back of the house and had Qiao An'an, the strongest of the four, stand on the table to build the wall.
When the wall was about 3 meters high, even with a table and a stool, Qiao An'an no longer had the strength to lift the bluestone slabs onto the wall. At that moment, a car horn sounded from the road not far away.
Everyone guessed that Shen Zhou and the others must have returned.
Grandpa Gu Bei called to Qiao An'an to go home: "This height is definitely enough to keep out zombies, but it's not enough to keep out people no matter how tall you are. Let's go home!"
Qiao An'an nodded: "I plan to work overtime as soon as I get home to make another electrified barbed wire fence and put it on the outer wall here as well, so that even if someone tries to break through the wall, we won't be afraid."
Grandpa Gu Bei said, "What we're most afraid of now is that the zombies brought back by the people across the street will attack this wall. The cement on this wall hasn't dried completely yet, and we can't withstand too much noise."
"With such a huge explosion at the factory, even if those people managed to escape unscathed, they should have been seriously injured. Their first priority would definitely be to return to their residential area. With such a commotion, the zombies will definitely circle around their residential area and won't come to our side."
Qiao An'an wasn't worried about this issue at all.
After saying this, Qiao An'an glanced at the large courtyard of the bungalow behind the wall that had been cleared away, and asked, "What should we plant in such a big yard?"
Grandpa Gu Bei said with great experience, "Planting winter wheat? I remember there was a bag of wheat seeds in the seeds Chen Zhou gave us last time. You said you were going to grind them into flour. Did you grind them?"
