Chi Xiaoyu saw that the horde of zombies rushed in from outside. Apart from Grandma Ma Xiaotiao, who was still anxiously looking out the window towards her house, hoping that her son could miraculously escape the zombie attack, all the other surviving residents were staying indoors. Therefore, it was impossible for someone in the community to have launched the drone.
Chi Xiaoyu adjusted the high-powered telescope to Ma Xiaotiao's grandmother's face.
Grandma Ma Xiaotiao looked extremely anxious.
If it weren't for Ma Xiaotiao by my side...
I reckon that by now, Grandma Ma Xiaotiao has already rushed to Building 3 to rescue Ma Teng.
Grandma Ma Xiaotiao truly embodied the saying, "Other people's lives don't matter, only your own child's life matters."
Grandma Ma Xiaotiao wanted her son to live, but Chi Xiaoyu wanted him to die.
Chi Xiaoyu didn't see Ma Teng's final outcome, but judging from the behavior of the person who came to beg her to open the door earlier, the zombie had already entered the building at that time. Otherwise, he could have easily retreated back to his own building instead of coming to beg her, someone who might not even open the door for him.
So whether Ma Teng is dead or alive, he should still be in this building.
The building is now surrounded by zombies in the stairwell and on all sides. If he is still alive, he can only be hiding in other rooms of the building.
The building had only been handed over for a short time, and none of the other residents had started renovations yet. Even if he hid in one of the rooms, he would starve to death because there was no water or food.
That's equivalent to being dead.
With this thought in mind, Ma Teng, this scourge, could no longer threaten the neighborhood, and Chi Xiaoyu felt much more at ease.
After observing the neighborhood, Chi Xiaoyu turned the high-powered binoculars outside the neighborhood.
Then she saw that in the abandoned buildings across the street, the wall of one of the buildings looked newly renovated. In front of the window on the second floor of the building, a woman in her mid-twenties with striking features was looking into her window with a toy telescope. In her other hand, she was holding a drone remote control.
When Chi Xiaoyu saw the drone, she had already guessed that it was probably the mother in the courtyard who saved her, but at that time she was not completely sure. Now she is completely sure.
She focused the high-powered binoculars on the mother's face and softly said to the screen, "Thank you."
Meanwhile, in the small courtyard.
Since Ma Teng smashed the drone, Qiao An'an has not been able to see what's happening inside Building 3.
The final scene freezes on Ma Teng and others smashing the iron gate in the stairwell.
She didn't know if Ma Teng had broken down the girl's door.
I don't know if the zombies managed to kill Ma Teng.
Because Building No. 3 is not a demolition site, it is not in the same area as the other buildings. Also, because it is a large single-level design, it has a large green area, unlike the other buildings which are close together. Now, this building is surrounded by zombies.
Judging from the current situation, regardless of whether Ma Teng was bitten to death by the zombies, as long as the zombie horde is in that building, Ma Teng will no longer be able to lord it over the neighborhood.
However, the archery girl was still in the same building as Ma Teng.
She couldn't help but worry about the girl's safety.
I could only look through the toy binoculars at the girl's window, but the curtains were tightly closed and there was no sound at all.
Qiao An'an eventually gave up on further investigation.
She comforted herself, thinking that she was actually saving the girl. Even if she hadn't led the zombies to the neighborhood across the street, the girl would still have been killed by Ma Teng and the others, and might have suffered inhuman torture before she died. After all, sometimes the human heart is more terrifying than zombies.
Thinking this way, her guilt lessened considerably.
I realized that Ya Ya hadn't eaten enough.
She went downstairs to reheat the noodles that had cooled down for Ya Ya. After reheating them, the noodles turned into a paste. She took two spoons and she and Ya Ya each ate the rest of the tomato meatball paste.
Because I went back and forth several times today.
After cleaning up the dishes, it was already 11 or 12 o'clock at night. Ya Ya had never gone to bed so late before, and her eyelids were already drooping uncontrollably.
But it's summer now, and the only thing we have at home is the solar generator on the roof. To keep the freezer and the power grid on the exterior wall running, we haven't been able to turn on the air conditioner. The kids especially sweat a lot, and they're all sticky by the end of the day. It would definitely be uncomfortable for them to sleep like that.
Qiao An'an quickly boiled water in the electric kettle, put it in the basin, and gave Ya Ya a bath. Surprisingly, Ya Ya fell asleep while being bathed.
Qiao An'an reluctantly wrapped Ya Ya in a large bath towel, gently placed her on the bed, then returned to the bathroom, took a quick shower, and went to bed.
Perhaps because her biggest threat had been eliminated, Qiao An'an slept very soundly.
What Qiao An'an didn't know was that in the dark, inside the floor-to-ceiling window on the fourth floor of Building 3, a pair of eyes gleaming with cold light were intently processing the corpse beside them. The owner of those eyes was carefully using a knife to cut the fresh, bloody flesh, trying his best to prevent the blood from escaping so as to satisfy his body's need for moisture.
...
The zombies have now returned to the neighborhood.
People in the community are afraid to even leave their building's stairwell.
With the horde of zombies as a natural barrier, Qiao An'an no longer had to worry about people in the neighborhood coveting her yard. She wasn't as worried as before, and life went on peacefully like this.
A few days later, the soil that had been turned over was dried, and the potatoes were ready to be planted. The guide said that crops should not be planted in the morning or at noon, as the strong sunlight would scorch them.
So Qiao An'an found a time when the sun was setting, before it had completely disappeared and when she could still see sunlight, and took out the potato tubers wrapped in dry soil to plant them.
