Chapter 23 Disagreements Arise Over Distribution of Supplies

The series of explosions on the sixth floor reminded the survivors that it was all over.

But this is not a place to stay for long.

The explosion will attract zombies from all around, so they must leave as soon as possible.

Qiao An'an reminded Chi Xiaoyu over the walkie-talkie: "There's something moving on the highway to the east. It's very likely that the zombies stranded on the highway heard the explosion. You need to come quickly, or it will be too late if you wait until the zombies arrive!!!"

Chi Xiaoyu replied to Qiao An'an that she would treat her wound and then go over.

The younger of the two women who worked together to kill the last gunman was named Su Xinran. She was twenty-five or twenty-six years old and from out of town. This house was where she rented a place for work. There was nothing for her to miss here. After picking up the gun from the ground, she started looking for the car keys. She searched for a long time but couldn't find the keys to any of the cars in the community. Only the key was still hanging on the car that was stuck at the entrance of the community.

Su Xinran could only put the things the men who came to the community had looted into the pickup truck blocking the entrance to the community.

To Su Xinran's surprise, the pickup truck carrying food contained not only ready-to-eat noodles, self-heating hot pot, sausages, biscuits, canned goods, and water, but also rice, flour, and even a live miniature pig.

Considering there was no source of fire on the road.

Su Xinran only took the edible instant noodles, self-heating hot pot, ham sausages, biscuits, canned food, and water. After all, this was enough for two or three people to eat for several months. After unloading the supplies, Su Xinran looked at Chi Xiaoyu and said, "I heard on the radio that the relevant departments are building a rescue base in the east of the city. I'm going there. Do you want to come with me?"

Chi Xiaoyu's eyes lit up when she saw the flour, rice, and miniature pigs in the pickup truck. She didn't even spare a glance for Zhou Ya. After quickly bandaging the wound on her arm, she slung her backpack over her shoulder, picked up the bow and arrows from the ground, and walked towards the truck carrying the miniature pigs. Seeing the two miniature pigs behind her, Chi Xiaoyu could already imagine what it would be like to raise them in Qiao An'an's yard. She even started fantasizing about slaughtering the pigs and eating pig-killing feast during the New Year.

Su Xinran asked Chi Xiaoyu first because she thought Chi Xiaoyu could shoot arrows and if they worked together, she could help deal with the zombies on the road. But she didn't expect Chi Xiaoyu to ignore her completely.

Su Xinran wasn't confident she could reach the rescue base safely on her own, so she turned her gaze to the woman fighting alongside her: "And you?"

The woman's surname was Zhou, and her given name was Ya. She was in her early thirties and was a resident of the area whose land was being demolished. Among the twenty people who died this time were her parents-in-law, husband, and children. This place was her home and her everything. After she and Su Xinran killed the man, she knelt beside the bodies of her family members and silently wiped the bloodstains from the face of her murdered daughter, Xiaomin.

Su Xinran called out to Zhou Ya because she felt that Zhou Ya still had some strength during the fight.

But Zhou Ya probably wouldn't be of much help anyway.

Su Xinran felt somewhat helpless and prepared to get into the car and leave.

At this moment, Gu Bei, who hadn't been asked yet, spoke up. He didn't understand why this woman asked others but not him and his grandfather: "You haven't asked me and my grandfather if we want to be with you yet?"

Su Xinran did not answer Gu Bei, but only glanced at him disdainfully before turning to open the car door.

Gu Bei wanted to ask another question.

Grandpa Gu Bei stopped him. After all, he was quite old and had seen all kinds of people. He explained to Gu Bei, "Don't ask. We're just an old man and a child. We can't help her and will only hold her back. She doesn't want to take care of us."

Just as Su Xinran was about to start the car and leave, Zhou Ya, who had been holding her daughter's body and crying bitterly, snatched the car keys away.

Su Xinran looked at Zhou Ya in surprise and asked coldly, "What are you doing?"

Zhou Ya was heartbroken because of the loss of her loved ones, but she was still rational. She felt that going to the shelter in the east of the city was not a good choice. Before the internet was cut off, she saw that the city center had been completely occupied by zombies, and even the shelters built by the relevant departments had been forced to move to the east of the city by the zombie horde.

Their current neighborhood is located on the westernmost edge of the city. To get to the shelter, they have to pass through the city center, where zombies congregate, and there are too many uncertainties.

She felt that all the bullies in the neighborhood were dead.

There are zombies around here, but not many.

Instead of risking your life to find shelter, it's better to stay in your community and wait for rescue by the relevant authorities.

In the apocalypse, survival depends on supplies, and she couldn't allow Su Xinran to take such a large truckload of supplies by herself. After snatching the car keys, she took the food out of Su Xinran's car: "There are five of us in total. Who gave you permission to take all the food? You can only take a maximum of one-fifth!!!"

Before the apocalypse, it only took four or five hours to drive from here to the eastern suburbs. But now it's the apocalypse, and nobody knows what the situation is on the road. Only guns and supplies are reassuring. When Su Xinran saw that Zhou Ya actually wanted to take some of the supplies from her car, she immediately pulled out the gun she had just grabbed and pointed it at Zhou Ya's head: "Put it down!!!"

Zhou Ya hadn't expected Su Xinran to hold a gun to her head; her hand, which was holding supplies, froze in mid-air: "You want to kill me?"

Su Xinran remained noncommittal: "You forced me to do this. If you dare take it, I'll shoot!!!"

The two of them were just fighting together.

In less than ten minutes, they had turned their guns on the other side.

Gu Bei didn't understand and looked at his grandfather with some confusion: "Aren't they friends?"

Grandpa Gu sighed. The world had become so corrupt that even he, an old man who had experienced war, couldn't stand it anymore. "There are no absolute friends in the adult world, let alone in this apocalypse..."
