Chapter 176 Crossing the Barriers 2

Qiao An'an and the others parked their car in an abandoned warehouse not far from the roadblock.

After checking that there were no zombies around, the group got out of the car to rest for a while and took out the self-heating rice from their backpacks to heat it up for the children.

During the meal, Qiao An'an and the others kept their eyes fixed on the roadblocks outside the warehouse.

But they waited until sunset and no one came.

Li Jianguo was getting impatient in the warehouse: "Is it possible that we're overthinking it, that no one is actually checking these roadblocks, or that all the people who set them up are dead?"

Yan Ling is good at fighting, but she's not much better at thinking than Li Jianguo. She frowned and asked, "Is that possible?"

After finishing the last bite of self-heating rice, Qiao An'an pointed to the roadblock outside the warehouse and said, "The area around the roadblock is very clean. If no one has ever come here, it's impossible for it to be so clean."

Chi Xiaoyu and Ye Jing also agreed with Qiao An'an's statement.

Grandpa Yan said that you can ask him anything at sea, but he is powerless on land. However, he also raised a question: "If no one comes, are we supposed to stay here forever?"

Their food and water supplies are limited, so they certainly can't stay here indefinitely.

After pondering for a moment, Qiao An'an said, "Regardless of whether anyone comes, we'll drive straight through the roadblock after nightfall."

No one spoke, which was taken as tacit acceptance of the decision.

After nightfall.

Qiao An'an drove over the roadblock, and after Li Jianguo and his car had passed, he put the roadblock back in its original place before jogging and jumping into the car.

To avoid disturbing the people here, Qiao An'an drove very slowly, and they didn't turn on the headlights.

After passing the roadblocks, the road became a city street, littered with wrecked cars. Only one narrow passage remained in the middle, further confirming the presence of other people.

It was just too quiet all around.

There were no living people, not even a single zombie.

Just when everyone was about to think that this was a dead city and that their previous guesses were unnecessary, a thick chain suddenly appeared on the road in front of them, and a group of burly men emerged from behind the abandoned cars all around.

The people inside the car roughly estimated that there were at least thirty or forty burly men outside.

Qiao An'an and her friends drove their brand new cars directly from the 4S store. They hadn't even had their windows tinted yet, so you could see right inside the car from the outside.

When these burly men saw that the car contained only elderly people, women, and children, besides a large man, their arrogance immediately flared.

The man at the front pointed at Qiao An'an's car and said to the people behind him, "If we had known there were only a few old and weak people, we should have taken them down when they were loitering around during the day. It would have saved us from working overtime!"

Judging from what this person said...

These people had spotted their car long ago, but the reason they only made their move now was that they, like the others, were testing the other party's strength.

Qiao An'an and the others looked at each other in bewilderment, noticing that the weapons the other side was holding were sticks, axes, and knives, with no firearms.

I feel much more at ease now.

Chi Xiaoyu reached behind her to touch the bow and arrow.

Li Jianguo and Yan Ling stopped her: "Your bow and arrows are so precious! You should save them for emergencies. Watch your brother (sister) give you a demonstration!!!"

As they were talking, the two got out of the car through both doors.

Li Jianguo is nearly 1.9 meters tall and has a broad back and thick waist. When he drags a baseball bat out of the car, he has a certain intimidating presence.

Yan Ling, who was only about 1.5 meters tall, looked very thin in her oversized hooded tracksuit. As soon as she came out, her companions burst into laughter: "Hahaha, are you in such a hurry to get yourself killed?"

But the laughter of those people had not yet stopped.

One of the people standing relatively close to Yan Ling was clutching his stomach, in so much pain that he couldn't speak.

Yan Ling practices unorthodox boxing.

There are no protective gear or rules; knocking the opponent down is the only way to win.

Because of her short stature and lack of strength, she always aimed her punches at her opponent's weak points. The punch she just landed on his ribs, and although it didn't break them, it was enough to make him suffer for a long time.

This punch also made these people dare not underestimate the short woman in front of them.

They all gathered around Li Jianguo and Yan Ling.

Yan Ling nimbly weaved through the crowd, dodging their weapons and catching them off guard with his punches and kicks.

Li Jianguo swung his baseball bat and hit them one by one, making them scream in pain.

Seeing that their numbers couldn't defeat two people, and adhering to the principle of joining forces if they couldn't win, they all dropped their weapons: "Stop fighting! We surrender! We surrender, okay?"

Although Li Jianguo and Yan Ling were relatively skilled fighters, their opponents numbered thirty or forty, and were all able-bodied men. They weren't necessarily capable of killing them all. If they were truly pushed to the brink and forced into a fight to the death, it was hard to say who would emerge victorious.

So after these people said they surrendered, Li Jianguo and Yan Ling stopped hitting them, and simply stood on either side of the car, coldly telling them, "Get lost."

Those people saw that Li Jianguo and Yan Ling were willing to stop.

They dared not linger here any longer.

He turned around and tried to run away.

The man who spoke first among these people took two steps and then turned back.

Li Jianguo thought he wanted to continue playing, so he grabbed the baseball bat and was about to hit the man on the head.

The man quickly waved his hands: "I'm not here to fight!"

Hearing the man say he wasn't there to fight, Li Jianguo lowered the baseball bat he had raised and asked in confusion, "Then why did you come back?"

The man replied, "We just wanted to tell you that we weren't originally evil people. We are all loyal brothers. We were forced to hide here and rob other people's things because we were desperate to make a living. If you let us go, we will owe you a favor, and we will definitely repay you when we have the chance."

My name is Zhou Fang.

Just let me know if you need anything.

Li Jianguo, Yan Ling, and the others in the car didn't take it seriously. They were about to leave and probably wouldn't come back. They wouldn't have any contact with the people here anymore, so naturally they wouldn't need the help of this person who called himself Zhou Fang.

But they meant well.

After listening to Zhou Fang finish speaking, Li Jianguo nodded slightly to him and said, "Thank you."

Li Jianguo and Yan Ling stayed by the car until Zhou Fang and his group removed the iron chain blocking the road and completely disappeared from their sight before they returned to the car.

After Li Jianguo and Yan Ling got into the car, Qiao An'an stepped on the gas and drove off, asking Grandpa Yan as she drove, "Is this the way?"

Without the headlights on at night, Grandpa Yan lit a lighter and buried his head in the map: "Yes, keep driving, it's only a dozen kilometers or so more and we'll be out of Y City."
