Chapter 152 Mother and Daughter Safe

Wu Yong was jolted awake.

When he woke up, he was greeted by a sky full of stars, and then he realized that he was lying in the convertible back of his family's modified pickup truck.

He was initially a little confused. He had clearly entered the village and was sitting at the table eating with that bastard Wu Jun.

After a chilly night breeze blew by, he sat up abruptly and saw flames shooting into the sky from the direction of their village behind the truck. He asked in surprise, "Wh...what happened?"

Shen Zhou revealed that Wu Jun had drugged their drinks in order to get them to eat.

Even though my stomach was already empty.

When he mentioned the meat on that table, he couldn't help but gag, taking several deep drags of his cigarette to suppress the nausea: "We set that fire. We poured a lot of strong liquor on the corpses, along with the perpetrators inside and the things in the freezer in the basement... we burned them all together."

No wonder the village was deserted; there were no elderly people, women, or children to be seen.

Thinking of the elderly men and women in the village before the apocalypse, and the children who always called him "Third Uncle" in their clear voices, Wu Yong felt nauseous even though he hadn't eaten the food on the table.

Fellow villagers.

Wu Jun and his gang have absolutely no bottom line.

Looking at the raging fire in the distance, Wu Yong said angrily, "It's burning well!"

The village was only ten miles away from the fishpond where Wu Yong lived. After Qiao An'an and the others cleared the roadblocks, they drove back to the fishpond in no time.

Before even getting close to Yu Qiao An'an, she sensed something was wrong. There were several zombies lying on the road, riddled with arrows.

She jumped out of the car before Li Jianguo had even stopped it.

Under the cover of night, the fishpond was filled with the stench of blood. Chi Xiaoyu and Ye Jing stood on the truck, their faces and hands covered in blood.

They breathed a sigh of relief when they saw that it was Qiao An'an: "Sister An'an!!!"

Hearing Xiaoyu and the others calling for their mother, Ya Ya knew she was back. Anxiously, she opened the truck door, jumped off, and ran into Qiao An'an's arms, crying, "Mommy!!!"

Seeing that the children were all safe and sound, Qiao An'an felt a huge weight lifted from her shoulders and finally asked, "What happened?"

Before Chi Xiaoyu and the others could speak, Wu Yong's wife stepped out of the truck: "It's me..."

Qiao An'an noticed that Wu Yong's wife's voice was weak when she spoke, and that she smelled of blood all over. When she saw that her belly had shrunk, Qiao An'an realized that Wu Yong's wife had given birth: "You gave birth, is the baby alright?"

When Wu Yong's wife heard Qiao An'an ask about her child, a smile appeared on her pale face. She turned slightly to the side, revealing the child inside the truck: "She gave birth. It's a girl. Mother and daughter are safe. I have to thank your children. If it weren't for these children bringing me into the truck, I would have lost my life, let alone given birth. It's just... it's just that I made your truck dirty."

In Qiao An'an's mind, childbirth is a life-or-death experience for women. After giving birth to Ya Ya via cesarean section, she couldn't get out of bed for several days, and the child relied entirely on caregivers for care.

Wu Yong's wife was able to walk on her own right after giving birth, and she even cut the umbilical cord and wrapped the baby in a blanket herself.

That's amazing!

Upon hearing Wu Yong's wife say that their car had gotten dirty, Qiao An'an quickly waved her hand and said, "It's alright."

Wu Yong, who was following closely behind Qiao An'an, was overjoyed when he heard his wife say that she had given birth to a little sister. He picked her up and said, "That's great! Da Bao has been asking for a little sister."

Thinking of their beloved eldest child who left them forever just as they were starting elementary school.

Wu Yong's wife couldn't hold back her tears: "Yes, Da Bao would be so happy if he knew we gave him a little sister, right?"

“You can’t cry right after giving birth, it will hurt your eyes.” Wu Yong quickly carried his wife into their makeshift shack next to the truck, covered her with a blanket, and then took their daughter, who was wrapped up tightly, out of Qiao An’an’s car. While holding the child, he apologized to Qiao An’an and the others, “I’ll help you wash the car after I’ve settled my wife and child.”

Qiao An'an smiled and said, "No need, just take good care of your wife."

While everyone was washing the car with water from the fishpond, they also learned the general outline of what had happened from Chi Xiaoyu.

It turned out that Wu Yong's wife discovered that Wu Yong had left with them behind her back. She was so anxious that she went into premature labor. The smell of blood was already strong during childbirth, and she was in so much pain that she couldn't help but scream, which attracted all the scattered zombies around.

Chi Xiaoyu and Ye Jing had Ya Ya help Wu Yong's wife into the truck and lock the door, telling her not to come out. They then stood on the top of the truck and shot at the zombies.

There were just too many zombies; they couldn't kill them all. The zombies rushed towards the truck.

They almost thought the truck would be overturned by the zombies.

Just then, a huge fire suddenly broke out in the distance, and the flames attracted the zombies gathered around the truck away, thus saving them from danger.

After hearing this, Li Jianguo proudly declared, "We set that fire!"

Qiao An'an was very puzzled: "Why didn't we see any zombies when we came here?"

Shen Zhou pointed to the trampled, overgrown fields and said, "Those zombies must have taken a shortcut through the fields to get to the fire, which is why we didn't see them on our way here."

After everyone had packed up and rested for a while, they prepared to set off at dawn.

Breakfast consisted of several large fish that Wu Yong had caught from the fishpond. After simply preparing the fish, Wu Yong lit a stove in the prefab house, put a pot on it, and stewed it with water. He remembered that he had to eat light food right after giving birth, so he only added scallions, ginger, and a tiny bit of salt to the fish. The fish was very fresh, and the stewed soup was milky white.

Wu Yong first served his wife a large bowl, then added salt to the pot before serving it to everyone.

The fish stew was very delicious, and everyone ate their fill.

Wu Yong felt that Qiao An'an and her group had not only avenged their villagers but also saved his entire family's lives. He felt he had to repay them, so when Qiao An'an and her group were about to leave, he insisted on giving Qiao An'an the game he had hunted: "Take these with you on the way."

Qiao An'an brought enough self-heating food and didn't plan to cook any meals along the way. Besides, Wu Yong's wife needed to nourish her body, so she directly refused his offer: "Keep these for your wife to nourish her body."

Before leaving, she drew a map for Wu Yong: "Children are not adults, and their crying is uncontrollable. Your wooden house cannot withstand zombies. We stayed in this wooden house in the picture before. It is very safe in the deep mountains. I suggest that you move there after your wife has recovered a bit."

In Wu Yong's view, not robbing others in the apocalypse is already considered being a good person.

What merit or ability did Wu Yong possess to encounter someone who saved his entire family twice and was even willing to provide them with safe accommodations?

Wu Yong solemnly accepted Qiao An'an's drawings and sincerely thanked her, saying, "Thank you, and I wish you a lifetime of peace and happiness."
