Chapter 23 Hesitation (2/2)

"It's okay, you continue to sleep. There are some steamed buns in the room. Remember to heat them up when you wake up. Your brothers Gao and Lu and I are going to work." Jiang He put the little head that was about to look out back in.

"Oh!" Xiao Liuzi quickly dragged his sister back, covered her with a small quilt, and obediently snuggled into the quilt.

After a while of struggling, the three of them finished their work in a hurry. Recorder Xia was instructing everyone on their work according to the contents of the record book. "Hey, you are responsible for the land over there. Can you finish it?"

"able--!"

Soon they came to Jiang He's side. "Jiang He and Gao Youhui will be in charge of field number four, and Lu Mingfeng will be in charge of field number seven. Is that okay?" Although she didn't ask this, her main focus was on Jiang He.

This made Jiang He a little confused. Well, he nodded and said "Yes" under the gazes of everyone.

"Thank you for making sour plum cake for my sister yesterday." Recorder Xia reminded quietly.

"Oh! You're welcome." After hearing the other party's purpose, Jiang He knew what he meant and a relieved smile appeared on his face.

But what he didn't see was that Lu Mingfeng, who was assigned to field No. 7, had been staring at the two of them.

"Xiao He is here? Here, here are the steamed buns that were just steamed this morning." As soon as the three of them got out of the field, Aunt Liu stuffed a cloth bag into Jiang He's hand.

"Auntie, you should keep it for yourself. It's not easy for everyone these days." Jiang He touched the still warm cloth bag in his hand and quickly put it back.

"Don't give it to me, or I'll be angry with you. My wife ate the sour plum cake you made yesterday and ate two big bowls of rice." Aunt Liu said happily.

"That's great. Being able to eat is a blessing, and the children you will have in the future will be strong." Jiang He could hardly bear the other party's enthusiasm. With so many people coming to thank him one after another, he was really at a loss.

When Aunt Liu heard this, her face lit up with joy. She felt that the young man in front of her was good. She looked left and right, then whispered, "When you work, be sure to pay attention to that Liu Xi. He's a bad guy! Don't trust anyone here easily, understand?"

Jiang He raised his head and looked in Liu Xi's direction. Sure enough, he saw Liu Xi staring at him, but he quickly shifted his gaze.

"Don't worry, Auntie. I understand!" Jiang He agreed.

"Then you guys go ahead and do your work, we're still waiting." Aunt Liu jumped onto the ridge of the field in a few steps.

"Hey, Auntie, please be slow!" Jiang He ordered.

Gao Youhui, who had been forced to be invisible, watched Aunt Liu leave silently, then retracted his gaze and said, "Xiao He, you are really good. In just one night, we have developed a good relationship. By the way, did you take the opportunity to find out?"

"You said it yourself, how could I possibly find out when we first met? Have you heard of the story of boiling a frog in warm water?" Jiang He complained as he rolled up his trouser legs, walked into the field and started working.

"Well... you are all human beings."
