Chapter 12: Treasure Hunt at the Garbage Collection Station
Jiang He walked out of the station and looked up to see the huge sign of a scrap collection station opposite. An old man wearing patched clothes and a Lei Feng hat was sitting leisurely on the steps smoking a pipe.
"Hey, hey, hey! Young comrade, don't you see the sign that says No Admission for Outsiders?" As soon as Jiang He reached the gate, he was stopped by an old man.
"Uncle, don't get me wrong. I came here to ask you for a favor." Jiang He quickly took out a pack of Daqianmen from his pocket and secretly stuffed it into the old man's hand. This cigarette was bought by him in his previous life. When he traveled here, he found that the shape and address of the cigarettes in Daqianmen were the same, so he dared to take it out.
"Young comrade, what are you doing? Aren't you making me make a mistake?" The old man frowned. Jiang He understood what he meant and took out a packet from his pocket.
The old man's expression changed immediately, and he stuffed two packs of cigarettes into his pocket. "Tell me, what are you looking for?"
Jiang He coughed lightly and said, "Find some books for the children to read. I also want to find some for myself."
The old man took two puffs of his cigarette and said slowly, "When you go in, just say you are my old Yang's nephew. But the time cannot be too long, at most an hour. The southeast corner is full of books, so just go there and choose."
"Thank you." Jiang He knew that the old man was sincere, so he walked in directly. When he arrived at the yard, a man came over from the opposite side. "Hey, who are you?"
"Old Yang's nephew." Jiang He said.
"Old Yang? Oh, I remember now." The man suddenly realized, "Old Yang's children have all been studying since they were young. Go get it over there. You'd better hurry up."
"Yes, I know." He took out another pack of cigarettes and stuffed it into the other person's outstretched hand. The man smiled and said, "There are some old books in the corner of the corridor. If you like, pick a few."
"Thank you very much, uncle." Jiang He showed an expression of being flattered, but then he was a little embarrassed. "Um, do you have a jar for pickling pickles? I want to get some too."
The man didn't notice anything and pointed to a place behind him and said, "There are two jars there. You can pickle some radishes there. If you want, take them."
"Thank you! Then I'll go pick some books first." Jiang He nodded with a smile, and went to the southeast corner that Old Yang mentioned. Although the books here were a bit worn out, they were generally still readable. He even found two or three foreign books from them. But they were fine now, but they would be a bit hot in a few years. However, it was not a big problem for him who had the space.
"What is this?" Jiang He suddenly touched a book that was heavier than the other books from among the several books in his hand. He touched the cover and felt that there was something inside. He threw the book directly into the system space without making a sound, and then continued to search.
Soon he found all the necessary textbooks, including mathematics and Chinese, and also found a few comic book-like picture books, which could be considered extracurricular entertainment books for the children.
Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly stepped on something like an iron box. Looking down, he saw that it seemed to be a biscuit box, but it was covered with rust. He didn't think much about it, but when he opened it, he found that it was actually a few stamps. He didn't have time to study these things now, so he threw them directly into the space.
