Chapter 3 Jumping into the river is embarrassing

Chapter 3 Jumping into the river is embarrassing

"Mom, if you're angry, don't take it out on us." Feng Yuefen came out of the main room, fanning herself with a palm-leaf fan, and pulled Su Jinbao over unhappily. "You good-for-nothing! You think you're worth snatching a skipping rope? From now on, everything in this house will be yours. Hurry up and do your homework!"

"Tsk tsk, how can you be a mother like that? You don't scold the older one, but scold the ignorant one instead." Xu Yuxiang said sarcastically, "If your Cuicui was a more capable girl, she would have married into the city long ago. She has nothing and is so ignorant. No wonder her eldest aunt looks down on her."

"Mother, my Cuicui isn't that lucky." Feng Yuefen simply raised her voice, folding her arms across her chest, and said loudly, "Unlike some people, who get the upper hand and act like a spoiled brat, crying, making a fuss, and even threatening to hang themselves, as if other families don't have daughters. Liang Kun lost your daughter, but he didn't delay getting married. Who do they think they are?"

"You all deserve to be stuck in the fields for the rest of your lives because you're such a loser." Xu Yuxiang grew angrier as she spoke. "No matter how capable your sister is, or how much she wants to help you, it's useless because you're not destined to be like that!"

After hearing this, Chen Guilan seemed to be in the wrong, so she lowered her head and said nothing.

Su Jiaojiao started laughing as she listened.

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law really have a good understanding.

A skipping rope can also be used to imply something to her, but things are different now. She won't care about it. It's not worth it.

Seeing Chen Guilan rubbing her knees as if she had done something wrong, Su Jiaojiao reached out and held her hand, comforting her, "Mom, don't worry about what they say. Believe me, our life will be no worse than anyone else's."

In her previous life, she did not go to high school and went to work in a garment factory in the city.

Two years later, she followed her master Qin Shuang to the imperial capital and worked hard for more than ten years before she had her own place. In this life, she wanted to study and make money.

In the alley, a bicycle bell rang out. Chen Guilan's eyes lit up and she stood up suddenly: "Jiao Jiao, your dad is back!"

Su Houli came back from the west end of the alley pushing his bicycle.

He was wearing a suit and tie, with hair oil on his face and a black handbag hanging on the handlebars, looking like a complete city dweller.

He passed by Old Lady Yin's door and saw three or five people coming out with serious expressions. He shook his head and whispered, "Feudal superstition."

After walking a few steps, he saw Xu Yuxiang talking to Feng Yuefen, so he stopped and said, "Mom, let's go home for dinner!"

"What are you eating?" Xu Yuxiang was furious and said, "I'm almost pissed off to death by them."

"Mom, let's talk after dinner if you have anything to say." Su Houli frowned and said, "I'm here!"

After saying that, he greeted Feng Yuefen again, "Sister-in-law, is brother not back yet?"

"Your elder brother is a farmer, leaving home early and coming back late, how can he be on time?" Feng Yuefen wanted to sneer, but when she thought about how Su Cuicui would need Su Houli's help with her work in the future, she forced a smile and said, "You must be tired after a long day of work. Go back and rest. When your elder brother comes back, I'll ask him to come talk to you."

"Okay!" Su Houli nodded, holding the handlebars with one hand and pulling Xu Yuxiang with the other, "Mom, let's go home."

He felt that helping his niece was a matter of great honor. As for Su Jiaojiao, no matter how he treated her, she was still his daughter, and if anything happened, she would not ignore him.

The mother and daughter walked into the yard with different expressions.

"Hou Li, you're back." Chen Guilan was a little flustered when she saw her man. Her eyes fell on Su Hou Li's straight suit. She reached out to tidy her hair, then hurriedly put it down and wiped it on her apron. She said embarrassedly, "I just came back for dinner."

Su Houli didn't even look at her. He parked his bicycle with a serious face and went to the well to wash his hands.

Chen Guilan hurriedly took out a clean towel and handed it to him. Su Houli acted as if he didn't see it and continued to wash his hands with his head down. Chen Guilan's hands were hanging in the air for a while, and she had to hang the towel by the well. She quickly returned to the kitchen, opened the pot, and asked Su Jiaojiao to bring the meal out. It was hot in the summer, so they all ate in the yard.

Su Jiaojiao greeted Su Houli indifferently, moved the small square table for dining out, and took out the bowls and chopsticks. Chen Guilan stewed potatoes and green beans, put a circle of pot stickers made of white flour and cornmeal on the edge of the pot, mixed a cucumber with mashed garlic, and boiled a pot of corn porridge.

Chen Guilan cooks with great care. Although there are no fancy fish or meat, the food is delicious.

The long-lost fragrance made Su Jiaojiao's appetite whetted.

Xu Yuxiang went back to the house and refused to come out to eat, saying that she had a headache.

Chen Guilan had no choice but to serve her a meal and an egg separately and brought them to the kang: "Mom, if you feel unwell, just eat on the kang. Call me if you need anything."

"Don't worry, I won't die." Xu Yuxiang acted like a mother-in-law.

After the family of three sat down, Su Houli coldly asked Su Jiaojiao, "I heard from your grandma that you refused to get engaged to Liang Kun, and then you jumped into the river?"

He couldn't believe that his daughter could do such a thing.

How embarrassing!

"Yes." Su Jiaojiao calmly picked up some food for Chen Guilan. "I want to go to high school and then take the college entrance exam."

"You're taking the college entrance exam?" Su Houli looked at her incredulously, his hand holding the chopsticks suspended mid-air as he listened to a joke. "Let's not even talk about whether you can pass. Don't you know that college graduates don't have guaranteed jobs these days?"

"I know, so what?" Su Jiaojiao asked back.

The last time Su Jiaojiao saw Su Houli in her previous life was during the Qingming Festival in 2015.

She came back to visit Chen Guilan's grave, and as soon as she got off the car, she saw him selling fruit at a roadside stall. In those two years, the garment factories in the city had moved to other places one after another. He was old and it was difficult for him to find a job, so he became a small vendor.

He said that his wife went out of town with their daughter and seldom came back, leaving him alone to work from dawn to dusk, with no one to cook at home. He even shed tears in front of Su Jiaojiao, saying how nice it would be if Chen Guilan were still alive, at least he could have a hot meal when he returned home.

At that time, he was completely covered in dust and dirt, no longer as radiant as he is now.

Su Jiaojiao hates him.

I didn't ask about him anymore.

All I heard was that he sold the house in the village to Su Houde. When the house was demolished, the two brothers had a lawsuit over the house and never saw each other again. After Su Houli lost the case, he never returned to the village. He lived alone in the city and did some small business. Although he was married, he lived like a bachelor.

"I know why you're still in high school and going to college?" Su Houli excitedly slammed his chopsticks on the table, tapping his silver-ringed fingers on the table. "If you're sensible, you can go to your aunt tomorrow to apologize and settle your marriage with Liang Kun as soon as possible. When you get married, you'll be a city dweller and can work like your aunt. You've landed in a golden nest, don't you know?"
